Bamboo Paper by Wacom. Best by far.
That app definitely has the best feel for writing, but it's not that great for note taking.

I still haven't found an app that does it all perfectly yet. For typed notes I use notability and evernote. For handwritten I use notes plus and upad. For whiteboard style diagrams I use the bamboo app, and then usually export the pic to one of the other note apps.

What is this!? Has to be some kind of joke..... right?

Why wouldn't someone want the vid iPad viewable? Ads? Looking at the vid in that picture there aren't even enough views to care about ads.

It's like the random people that blocks videos from being watched outside YouTube or blocking countries (can that be done within the video settings?). I just find it amazingly stupid. I have the YouTube on GAF plugin, and every time some video pops up and it's blocked for watching outside YouTube, I just don't bother unless it's a game trailer, which usually isn't blocked, anyway.

Wow, really? I'm trying to understand why the author would select that option. And why Youtube would even put that as an option.

K that grazing app is pretty slick. I never keep browsers outside of safari just because there is no way to make them default, but this ui is pretty cool. Doesnt seem as full featured as the competing browsers though.

If they made the Star Trek PADD app do more and have more content it would be worth it. As it currently exists, I wouldn't pay $5 for it.

First think I thought off when the iPad came out. Does not look to good though

If they want to use it as an Encyclopedia, then they should team up with Memory Alpha for the content. Toss in a few of there own video clips on top of that, and we have something.

Don't think I would buy right now.

I was in the beta program for 2.0 back when I had the iPad 2. Best browser experience available for the iPad imo

I love the look of the navigation features and gestures, but I couldn't live without spoiler-text reveal and 'download linked file'. I'd also miss one-click YouTube download, but that's not a deal breaker; and I didn't notice Dropbox integration, though admittedly iCab doesn't do this well with anything besides very small files. Right now I'd have to sacrifice too many key features to switch, but if they're added in subsequent updates I'll definitely check out Grazing. Thumb navigation would be so sweet.

well, I didn't delete iCab while I was using Grazing Browser. I still kept iCab around for certain features, most of which you mentioned. Those features are secondary to my tablet browsing experience which is primarily spent reading webpages in full screen mode. I'd much rather use Grazing Browser and switch to iCab when I need to download something rather than only use iCab all the time because it has dropbox integration. The browsing experience provided by Grazing Browser is that good imo.

PS Does iCab have a new spoiler-text reveal action? I don't recall that being a differentiating feature. I used a bookmarklet solution (e.g Juice's bookmarklet) in both browsers to reveal spoiler text. Hehe, the moment I copied over my bookmarklets from iCab to Grazing was when I seriously started using it as my main browser.

Ya I don't understand why they don't partner with Memory Alpha to have a complete database.

It looks too much like a fan made LCARS ripoff than an official well researched and developed LCARS emulation made by people who developed the ones for the shows. In screenshots it looks extremely cluttered and mixes LCARS with standard iPad feelings and even at one point shows actual Twitter in a WebKit. That's not how it should work!

I've moved on from LCARS. It was designed in the late 80's for the 80's vision of the 24th century. GUI's have evolved passed LCARS in the past 20 years. The LCARS UI would be nice for novelty, but it just doesn't look well enough done this time. In other words, early-21st century GUI > mid-24th century GUI.

Sorry for bumping, but what's the best (graphing) calculator for the iPad? It should preferably at least mimick the features of a Ti-83 calculator, and hopefully it is nicely designed as well.

Right now I'm leaning towards PocketCAS Pro, but are there any better alternatives? Thanks in advance.

I'm monogamous with browsers. I like to get comfortable with one, and only one; then I'll divorce it and trade up. The very thought of copying a link in one browser and then pasting it into another fills me with indescribable cosmic horror.

Yep, iCab has a spoiler-text module. It's called 'Black and White', and then another module called 'Reset Layout' hides the text again. It's not as slick as mouse-highlighting, but it gets the job done.

... and what's your answer when an app opens a link in Safari, as it's the default browser?

Here is my ranked list of things that are important for iPad 3 for me:

1) Retina Display

2) More RAM and CPU/GPU power

3) Better camera and video

Well, you're easy to please. Those are all a given, save for maybe retina.

Most browsers have open in bookmarlets making browser switching easy

Thankfully this doesn't happen often to me, but when it does, I read whatever I need to as fast as possible, then immediately close the window, horrified by the violation. I hope we can choose a different default browser in system settings at some point, but I won't hold my breath.

None of them feel too different, but iChromy is...Chrome like UI wise if that matters to you. And it's free so you might as well try it out.
I tried it out for few days, and it's pretty much iCab with a different UI. So I returned back to Safari :(

I hope iCab gets fixed, because I've been using it for a long time and it was great. I wonder what happened ?

It's broken? I just got it and I'm loving it much more than Safari.

Safari is as bare basics as it gets.....depressingly so.
I guess he might be referring to JavaScript speed increases that third party apps don't have...and from what I hear is still the case in iOS 5.

Otherwise I don't know. I think iCab (and probably others) does some JS code injection for extra features which probably doesn't help.

It has been very laggy and slow compared to Safari.

no, it's more than the js stuff. iCab was still smooth when Safari added the new nitro engine. it got slow afterward

all third party browsers were using private APIs to make scrolling smooth like safari on image heavy pages. then Apple started cracking down on the use of private APIs so they had to remove the code.

now scrolling is choppy. it's barely noticeable on some pages but very noticeable on others.

I would like suggestions for 2 apps:

The first is reader that allows me to load pdfs of academic papers and write my own notes on them. I've heard positive comments about Good Reader but I am open to other suggestions.

The second is an app that allows me to setup notes, calendar appointments, alerts (basically everything that Evernote/Springpad) does without requiring me to connect to the "cloud". I'm going to a few places for work around the world with no wireless/3G connectivity. I have 64GB on my Ipad so that's enough space to actually store my stuff. Would "Things" be a suitable option?

1. GoodReader is the very best for that, so go for it. It's fairly non-expensive too.
2. I don't have any experience with "Things", but maybe you should also check out 2Do or Pocket Informant HD. Both are cheaper than "Things", and 2Do is an Universal app to boot.

I dont know if it is the best but AVS Video Converter 7 is the one I have used to convert 720p MKV files to iPad compatible video

Air Video converts in realtime really well. I think it can also make a copy at the origin? If you're just planning on watching at home and streaming off a NAS or whatever then it's a great product.

So I just decided to invest in an Ipad 2. So, appleGAF I have a few questions.

1. Is there a chance that the ipad 3 will be out soon. I'd rather not get the 2, when the 3 should be out soon.

2. How thorough is the garageband app. I diddled with it a little while on my brothers Ipad. Is there any chance they'll release more loop packs?

3. Is final cut pro out for it yet? If so, is it good? Can I only edit video that I take on my ipad, or can I transfer a video from my computer and edit it there?

That's all for now. Thanks!

Just to be a dick and/or they think they get no money from iOS youtube viewers (no ads) I'm guessing.
