Everyone got out of work early today, except me. I tried hitting Best Buy and Walmart at 5, but no luck :(

Going to hit the Apple Store tomorrow, but I don't expect much.

just get there early and you might be able to get one.

local target didn't even get any shipments...walked over to walmart late this evening, one 64gb black one left, i wanted a 32gb, but i picked up the 64. I'll give my 32gb to my mom.

Anyone remember the other case being sold for the ipad 2? Not the smartcase but another case from a 3rd party. My memory thinks it is belkin but im not too sure.

Safari, electronic books that came with the text books. I study for a lot of IT-related certifications, so vendors like Cisco (but they stopped), Sybex, M$, etc throw e-books of their stuff with the test-engine CDs.

But...I guess I can throw movies on this thing. The only thing is how finicky is it with .AVIs? I don't want to have to recode them. I guess with the music, ebooks, apps, I MIGHT fill up 32GBs.
There's a few alternative codec video players out there, supposedly iPad 2 handles them much better (cause they're all CPU bound iirc). Off the top of my head there's CineXPlayer, AVPlayerHD, and OPlayer, there's probably more too.

old iPad would stop loading images after around 25 or so. (back on iOS 3, anyway)
They changed something in 4.3 cause The Big Picture loaded everything I tried last night, including one page that I know showed a few blue boxes a week or two ago.

Of course it'll flush it out and it takes it's sweet time loading, but it works now. Hell trying it now, the Japan earthquake and Carnival 2011 ones...it's not flushing. Checkers a lot but not reloading, they tweaked something with WebKit or memory management like hell in 4.3 (along with the new JS engine), it's not just for the new iPads but probably explains why it's such a huge difference (massive new hardware on top of the tweaked software).

Ok so I like comicflow thus far but I'm having an issue with the webdav server. it shows me the password but what am I supposed to put in for the login? I have been unable to figure it and my google fu is failing me on this. thanks for any help.
Try anything. I used my name and then tried out "blah" and they both worked.

I could tell immediately that the new iPad 2 glass flexed more when touched than the first. I'm a little disappointed in this change.
I expected them to make the glass thinner to lose weight and thickness...but I also expected them to glue the glass to the screen.

There's a crapload: http://www.macworld.com/article/158343/2011/03/ipad2_case_roundup_1.html

Apparently I'm gonna be stuck with my OG iPad till iPad 3.
Took it out of my leather cover for cleaning it and I noticed it's botched on the top-right round edge.
The only time I dropped the thing (and with the cover on) was when it fell from my bed, a MASSIVE 30cm jump to my fluffy moquette floor. What are this things made of, diarrhea SHIT? How the fuck am I supposed to sell it now? Simple, I can't.

Keyboard is driving me nuts! I hope I can learn to use it better. Otherwise, no productivity will be done on it.
Portrait keyboard blows. Landscape keyboard is the exact same size as their physical keyboard. I can type really well on it now, but it did frustrate for a couple of weeks.

Was unaware the OT went up. Has this happened to anyone else?

I just got this email regarding the order I placed yesterday:
Apple said:
Dear Apple Customer,

Thank you for your recent Apple order.

We appreciate your interest in iPad 2. There is a limited quantity per
customer for this product and your order has exceeded this limit. Your
order has therefore been cancelled and you will not be charged.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

If you have any questions regarding this order, please contact us at
applestoreinfo@apple.com.

Sincerely,
Apple Online Store Customer Support
Can someone explain to me why they canceled my order? I only ordered one iPad 2 which they already charged me for. I sent them an email but I'm not sure when to expect a response.

Did some searching around and saw it on a MacRumors forum thread, it sounds like it's some bug Apple is aware of but probably best to try to keep in touch with them just in case.

Also in the same thread it sounds like some are getting "prepared for shipment"...not mine yet though.

So yeah, I was on the 5th avenue line for like 30 minutes and I ended up getting my Verizon 64gb. Yay!

Gonna set it up tomorrow though cuz I ended up hitting up a bar afterwards and I'm fairly drunk and don't feel comfortable around this fragile-feeling thing lol

All I can say is that you have reached your lifetime limit

Thanks. Did you order 3-5 days or 2-3 weeks?

And I thought this was relevant: http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/03/11/the-ipad-2-5-seconds-and-smart-covers/

It takes me, on average, 5.1 seconds to start and begin using my first-generation Apple iPad. This is how I spent those 5.1 seconds: opening the cover protector, pressing the power button in the top right corner of the device and then swiping my finger across the screen to unlock the iPad.

Sure 5.1 seconds might not sound like a long period of time, even in the age of Twitter and the real time Web. But if you use your iPad on a regular basis it can quickly add up. Let’s just say you pick up your iPad 10 times a day, that’s nearly 6 minutes a week wasted through the laborious action of pressing the power button and swiping your finger across a screen. It’s exhausting.

But Apple has a solution with the iPad 2 and its Smart Cover. These covers, which are designed to protect the iPad 2’s screen, use hidden magnets that act as a switch and detect when the cover is opened, automatically turning the device on. No buttons presses or swipes needed.

My colleague Miguel Helft has written about this phenomenon too, and although he managed to start up the original iPad a bit faster, he points out that the speed of opening the new iPad illustrates how in technology, we just want devices to get faster all the time.

To me, after using the iPad 2 for the past few days, the instantaneous start-up changes the game. And the main reason is that it makes using an iPad more like reading a book.

Isn't there really no way to just browse all the apps using the advanced filters without having to go to your computer? How freaking stupid!

What do you mean? The app store app seems to have a lot of filters.

Nice improvements on Infinity Blade, for such simple/cheap changes. Nice to have it 'confirmed' that it's using a MP2 also - although it seems to be more of a logical conclusion.

On this bit though:

The 543 as a building block has a bit over twice the peak floating point throughput of the SGX 535.

I thought it was more like 4x? Twice the number of pipelines and twice the FP power per pipe? That also makes more sense of Apple's '9x' claim, if it's a 543MP2 2x2x2 = 8x.

Giga, I don't see why the game would look any different on a screen in an iPad vs an iPad 2.

The difference would be in the performance, it won't magically get better graphics unless the game was made to be able to do it.

Did you see the pictures?

It looks a lot better AND (per reports) the framerate increased.

Notice the textures, lighting and AA.

I was fine with just ordering the iPad 2 yesterday and waiting a few weeks to receive it but all the glowing reviews in this thread (particularly Gary Whittas) has me getting all giddy and impatient. I want my iPad 2 now damnit!

There is enough ways to find the good stuff

- Top Charts has the Top 30 games in each categories
- Search has loads of filters you can use
- The Categories tab on the bottom (second to last) splits apps into 20 seprate categories

Also, you can download Appshopper, which give you loads more option to search, bookmark apps to wait for a price drop, check out recent additions, look at Top 100 lists, and more.

The game was made to be able to do it.

Anyway, the newer version of infinity blade crashes a lot on my iPad 1. I didn't play it much before, but was it a crashy game before? I had to restart my machine to get it to actually load. The future!

Take it back and get the Apple TV instead. You can stream from your iPad to the Apple TV.
You can only AirPlay what content makers want you to stream. I want to display stuff like hulu and games. The HDMI is a lower-level mirroring that it seems like app developers can't disable.

I just realised that the iPad2 launch date in the UK is the same date as the 3DS. Hopefully everyone will spend their money on one of them and leave the iPads for me!

I want that quick unlock feature without the SmartCover which I won't be keeping. (I used a jailbreak tweak for that when using the iPad1. There was an easily accessed toggle to turn it off before putting the iPad in a bag—not that I recall that the iPad's screen was ever inadvertently turned on in that situation). I wonder if other accessories, besides covers and cases, will use the magnets? I imagine we'll eventually see styluses that have magnets in them that attach to the side of the iPad... What about a 'bookmark', attached to the front of the iPad, that could be flipped over to quickly unlock the the screen?
