All I need to do is buy the $5 Xcode app from the Mac App Store to enable four and five finger gestures?

Is the Canadian launch still going to have the 1AM Friday online launch? I didn't see anything about it on the website.

the date hasn't changed in the Canadian store and Apple has said they're going forward with the international launch this friday. seems like it's still a go.

I'll be up early (I think it's 1 AM PST, 4 AM EST) to get my online order in before the stock is used up. I would have considered going to an Apple store on Friday afternoon but I have a dentist appt so that's out of the question.

My iPad is supposed to get here today, but I have been using my friend's iPad a little and notice that I wish it supported multi-touch gestures like the Return to Home one without guying the dev kit.

I forget which side the home button is on and it seems so out of the way. Lol.

To piggyback on this, why doesn't safari support multitouch to go back a page or to go to the tab window?

I'm sure this has been asked many times, but I have never seen it discussed. Seems like it would be a no-brainer for apple to do this.

Any 3rd party browsers that support multitouch navigation?

Yes, iCab supports multitouch navigation, as does Browser+, Grazing Browser and many other 3rd party browsers. It's also possible to enable gestures in Safari on a jailbroken iPad1... Apple just introduced more gestures (and, perhaps more importantly, fluid animation to go with the shortcuts) for Safari in Mac OS X Lion so it's possible we'll see some of that on iOS.

For Canada - Anyone know typically how many iPad2’s Best Buy and Future Shop will have in stock based on the US? If it’s like 50 I don’t want to wait hours in a 100+ person line and not get one. I’d just like to know how to gauge when to line up and when to leave.

Thanks a bunch

My iPad 2 is *finally* on a delivery truck in my city. It's been nearly 2 weeks since I ordered (on that Friday morning at 1:04 a.m. PT). Finally I will have something to put this smart cover I've had since Monday on.

I would guess less.

Your best bet is going to be the apple store + lining up early.

Yes, wondered this too! Not sure why this wasn't available for the last year for Safari ..

if Apple.com said 1st of April. Is there ANY chance that it might arrive earlier? ... I'm running out of patience :(

Plus, the 1st of April date is a bit worrying :P

Dunno if you're outside the US, but my shipping date is April 25th and I ordered mine Sunday. :(

Although tomorrow I can check a few stores in the state, but not expecting much success.

So I got the new Air Video server beta and it's great. Before I could only AirPlay audio but now live conversion airplays to Apple TV flawlessly audio and video.

Being able to just pop open Air Video at any time and start just about ANY video file on my Macs playing on the TV is seriously awesome.

I'm not very familiar with Air Play.
How do I know if a new TV is compatible, etc.?

Been thinking about canceling my cable, so it would come in handy.

Apple TV uses HDMI.

AFAIK there aren't any Air Play-compatible TVs yet (and the first speakers that are compatible have just recently been introduced). The only way to play Air Play content on a TV currently is via the new Apple TV which hooks up to any TV with HDMI.

What NYR said. I think last time stock for a lot of major Future Shop's was ~10.

I recommend it. It's almost worth the $99 for Airplay and iTunes sharing alone.

I have an apple tv and an ipad, what do I do next? Haha, I guess I don't understand what the difference is between streaming from your itunes on your computer and streaming it from the ipad.

Help a noob out?

Possibly so I can stream all of my digital movies/TV shows that I ripped to my TV, but then again throwing them on a flash drive isn't all that inconvenient.

What is the best sleeve/back protection thingamabob that people have found? I don't want anything that requires an adhesive though.

ha ha. yeah, i actually like it better this way since it leaves me no room to change my mind and wait in line for hours. ugh. I'm done with that for good. I'll order online, one click and i'm done.

If you're content is from iTunes (.mp4 etc) you can just go to your computer within the apple tv menu and it's pretty easy to stream everything in iTunes. To do this you need to enable home sharing on both devices.

What I do to get around the crappy file comparability with atv is:

-stream your videos from your computer to iPad (using Air Video app with Air Video server on your pc)
-then while video is playing select AirPlay to Apple TV (your ATV just needs to be on)

Well, yeah, if there are videos already in iTunes on my computer, I usually stream from there to the Apple TV.

What I like about Airplay is getting a link to a Youtube video while I'm browsing on my iPad, then flipping it over to the ATV. You can then go back to browsing on the iPad, while the video plays on the TV. Works great. Also, I can now watch videos shot on my iPhone and iPad directly without syncing. iMovie projects, as well.

It blows minds when I have friends over. Lol.

don't blame you. although i made the 1AM cut off and waited a week, it was nice and comfy staying indoors and not having to deal with the uncertainty and sitting in a 100+ person queue.

I actually had fun in the line. I waited about 3 1/2 hours, but it was all good people in my vicinity. Everybody was excited and we all got chatty pretty quickly.

Since the improvements I've been using AirPlay a lot and it's been blowing my mind.

I just dusted off an old airport express and hooked it up behind my living room a/v setup to some good 2.1 speakers and it's SO convenient to stream music to them either directly from iPad or via iPad from any computer with Remote app.

That reminds me how fun my 5 hour line experience was on the 11th. I was roughly number 36 in a line of over 200 and I happened to be positioned with 3-4 others right at a corner cutoff where employees had instructed the rest of the line to basically line up on the opposite side of the mall. For some reason the secondary mass of people was less visible to passers by because part of it was recessed so all day we probably had to tell 50 plus people that we actually weren't the end of the line and point to where it ends. We ended up tons of hilarious reactions, one of the guys with us started recording video of people walking up thinking they were getting in line only to find out there are 200+ ppl he didn't notice. Had to be there... Ha.

Yeah it's cool to have my whole library available out at the pool. Fucking brilliant!

Ehh, so my iPad has some pretty bad backlight bleeding, extremely noticeable in the dark, even at 50% brightness.

I guess I'll just wait a month or so until it's reported that new iPad's aren't suffering from this then exchange. Oh well.

Guess there's no point of putting my Wrapsol skin on.

never thought of placing a decal on the back. thanks for the idea! looks cool.

My GF found a DHARMA one for her Macbook Pro so I found one for my iPad. Thing is awesome. Really cheap like 5 bucks. Got it on eBay

If that's a custom decal, you should sell them on Etsy.

edit: intended this for previous post.

Haha I got it off eBay, someone else's custom decal.

With the iPad coming to 25 countries on Friday, and the announcement that it will be in Hong Kong in April, it looks like the scalping is going to be over.

This MacRumors post seems to say that it's much easier in NYC now:
NYC got a gigantic iPad 2 love fest today. The stores got big supply (well, relatively speaking). I got a 64gb black wifi and 32gb white wifi (sold out of 64gb white fast). I had the cab driver go from the UWS to 5th Ave and back to UWS around 6:30 - I was about 40th on line or so at the UWS location and they still had tons after, mostly 16gbs. Both UWS and 5th Ave were selling up until about 10:30 am. UWS opened up an hour early for people on line - they started giving out tickets for models around 7:30 and a little before 8am they opened.

As it pertains to scalpers, go check out CL and ebay, the market turned sharply downwards. If you're looking to make a buck, maybe you'll clear $50ish now, it looks like. That seems reasonable when you take the price of 'waiting' factor into the equation.

I'm sure it will help, but there's also the problem that a lot of chinese people buying scalped iPads do so for the unlocked apps such as youtube. They wont completely go away.

They won't go away, but with a larger amount of sources to get it from, the price someone will pay for an iPad sourced from NYC will go down. Especially since Hong Kong ones will be cheaper at retail (no sales tax) and cheaper to import (just cross the border). The ones from Hong Kong and all the other 25 countries will have YouTube.
