Words With Friends needs a landscape mode. :(

Is there a decent way to upload images to a TinyPic like service from iPad?
There is a free imgur app, and a free one for photobucket. Don't know about TinyPic.

How does Friendly, Friended, MyPad+, Facepad+, Facely and Buddies compare?

Is Friendly the best one? (Even though its currently borked)

I heard good things about MyPad+ but it only supports landscape mode which kinda sucks.
I heard that friendly was pretty much the 'unofficial facebook app for ipad' and just got that one. It was good, then it broke. I haven't tried another one yet.

yeah friendly was cool until it stopped working completely.

just throwing my hat into the "take my ipad out the house" ring - i take it to work with me every day (not for work).

It's absurd that there's even a question about which Facebook app to get. There should be an official app. And since Zuckerburg said no way to that, then at least there should be a specialized site for tablets. Despite all of the Facebook lite, Facebook touch and whatever else, there still isn't a version optimized for tablets, one that does everything the desktop version does. One of the richest and most tech savvy companies the world, and a year after the release of the iPad —with more and more tablets on horizon and the path of computing starting to become pretty clear — there's still not even a hint of when there will be a real solution.

I mean, you still can't fucking use chat on the website when using an iPad. Would it really be THAT difficult to get a compatible chat program running for when an iPad is detected?

I honestly think that Facebook's stubborn focus on the desktop (it's not as if any of the phone apps are all that impressive either, or ever updated) will cause them serious problems in the next 5-10 years.

I think I'm going to bite on either a 32GB or 64GB white iPad2 (Depending on availability more than anything :lol) in this next week or so! It's an understatement to say I'm excited. The iPad2 finally convinced me to go for it, I was definitely on the fence with the first generation.

iPad Words with Friends is so sluggish. I get a lot of crashes back to the springboard too.

i am pretty sure the only reason they even support the iphone app is to try and make facebook an intrinsic, go-anywhere part of people's lives, because they sure won't be making any ad revenue off the thing. i agree it's dumb that they haven't released anything for ipad, but it'd have to be worth their while considering in most usage case scenarios it'd be competing with the desktop browser version, which they would obviously much rather have you use.

Apple's fault for not offering a more capable browser

It's really an issue with Facebook's laziness to develop a good HTML5 version of their site (although they have no incentive to) in addition to Apple keeping iPad Safari in line with iPhone Safari (re: limited).

So here is my Dilemma...

I bought a 16GB WiFi iPad 2, and I noticed some pretty major light leaking (posted about it earlier). I don't really care enough about it to return the iPad, but I am thinking perhaps because of the light leak I could go into Apple and ask to have my 16GB traded up to a 32GB (I'd pay the difference).

Do you think they would allow that? I really thought 16GB would be enough for me, but I am learning quickly that apps, games, magazines, movies, etc take up a LOT of space.

They might take some issue with that (as it's not a direct exchange). Depends who you are dealing with.

It works better in the Android Honeycomb browser. It works better in the BB Playbook browser. (Chat even works in the iSwifter browser on iOS). It's not laziness if Facebook chooses not to pander to Apple,s poor implementation of a tablet browser.

I highly doubt that they would allow that. You'd have to return it first, then they may deign to put you on a special waiting list to buy a 32GB. But a straight up trade-up has never happened
no matter hownmuch I begged :,(

laziness might not be the right word but it does show a curious lack of interest in their part to make it better.

the thing is that no one is buying those other tablets like they are the iPad. so fb is certainly not making the best effort to provide the millions of ipad users with a great fb experience. they should probably consider fixing that.

they might just need to face market realities and tailor their mobile site to the ipad's limitations or make a dedicated app that can provide the notifications and chat features people need. the situation might suck for fb but that's the way the market goes sometimes.

What works better? Are we talking about chat? Chat is disabled in the Honeycomb browser just like in Safari. Here it is now in the SDK. I didn't see any tab on the bottom right to access it.

Regardless, using Facebook chat [as it is now] in a tablet browser is not an ideal solution. You don't get proper notifications and it's not designed specific to touch input.

ive asked this question before in here, but is anyone using this thing to record lectures? want to know if it's worth the investment before summer classes start.

*shrug* i'm guessing Facebook have some smart strategic reasons for doing so. There are what, 30 million iPad users worldwide (i'm being generous here)? Most o those people also have a computer and a smartphone as well. Facebook has over 500 million users worldwide, i'm sure they won't need to 'face up to market realities' anytime soon.

Chat isn't the only problem in the iOS Safari browser. Another problems is that the user can't upload to Facebook through the iOS Safari browser.

Ah, glad to see this isnt a xoom specific issue. I hate using WwF on the tablet due to the sluggish responsiveness.

Odd, it's very responsive and has never crashed for me on iPad 2.
Have quite a few games going on now too.

Words is just sluggish on Android all around. Rather inexcusably so as well.

So...what's everyone using to aggregate their news content on the device? I'm currently rocking Reeder and Flipboard.

Yeah, there's no browser level file system access. A solution to that would be for Apple to hook upload dialogs to the media library framework (assets library).

I don't follow that reasoning. They made a custom iPhone app for around the same number of users(at the time). And it's plain at this point that by the end of the year, we're talking about 50-60 million users. I'm betting they're working on something, either native or web-app.

Might be picking up an iPad 2 next week and was wondering if AppleCare is something most people buy or don't buy with the tablet? Is AppleCare just extending an already existing warranty an extra year? So if I had backlight bleed or a dead pixel, and didn't purchase AppleCare I would still be able to get an exchange at an Apple Store?

I think Apple products have a one-year warranty without AppleCare, so you'd probably be able to exchange right away provided it isn't accidental damage. That's my understanding.

Do universal apps work for iPad --> iPhone?

Bought wolfram alpha for iPad but when I go into iPhone store it says buy instead of install??

for one dumb reason or another the iPhone app store has not been updated to show "install" buttons for apps you have already bought. Apple needs to fix this.

you will not be charged a second time.

I suspect the main stumbling block is that for larger tablet screens, and for that rapidly increasing audience, they don't want to deliver the ad-free experience of the official iPhone Facebook app. That app serves the purpose of getting people far more hooked into Facebook at the cost (to Facebook) of not showing them ads - but they may want people to view ads on tablet devices.

Is Doc2Go a viable alternative to printing out slides and writing on them in class if you have the keyboard attachment? It doesn't seem to let you edit PDFs, what lets you edit PDFs AND Powerpoint?

Can anyone answer this?

At that time there was a bigger gap in usability between a native mobile app and the website (mobile-optimized or not) accessed via a mobile device. At this time the website is much more usable, in comparison, with an iPad web browser.

What's the general consensus on the best case for the iPad 2? Obviously the Smart Cover is the best option for keeping the slim form of the device, but I wasn't sure how that held up against consistently putting the iPad into a bag. I've been poking around review sites like iLounge and haven't really been "wow'd" by the options.

Any recommendations or should I just go buy the Smart Cover?

Smart cover and a sleeve for your bag. It's the best option.

I recomend you the smart cover and a invisible shield for the back of the Ipad 2, don´t like using a bag its like not for me i prefer using my Ipad 2 how it is suppose, only with the smart cover and the invisible shield for the back.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions. And I don't mean a bag just for my iPad, I meant a general bag that I take to work. I suppose I'll just do the Smart Cover for now and maybe see if any 'skins' look OK. Afterall, rolling with nothing protecting the back of your iPad is LIVING!

can someone recommend me a case that will let me prop the ipad up so I can take notes? I would go with the smart cover, but I'm looking for something that will act as a full fledged case so I can throw it in my backpack.

I haven't updated since I purchased my iPad 2 the first day. What am I missing out on? Should I update?
two new updates released since ipad 2 launch
iOS 4.3.1 Changes:
Memory hang problem fixed
You can open big files
Springboard issue fixed
Gyroscope recognizing of iPad 2

iOS 4.3.2 Changes:
Contains latest security updates
Fixes Facetime issue

I guess both updates aren't much important, but what's wrong with keeping up with the updates

I am going to try to wait in line at my local Apple store on Tuesday. I want to try to get one before I go out of town at the beginning of May, and my current delivery date is May 5.

I am thinking of getting there at 8am, and if there are more than 10-15 people there already, just bailing. I am trying to get a black Wifi 16gb.
