LOL, how dare i continue with smug condescension towards someone with a differing opinion about Apple and their products.

LOL, first world problems...

*takes stock of life so far*

I agree with you 100%. Putting a screen protector on an iPhone/iPad is 100% pointless. Not only do they make your phone look hideous, they also make the finer touch gestures a pain in the ass to perform. Apple did not intend for their products to work with a big plastic sheet over them.
Especially when they thought it didn't look good enough with a gap between the glass and the screen in the iPhone 2G/3G/3GS so they went ahead and FUSED the screen to the glass in the iPhone 4 so that there was less distance between the display and your finger. Adding a plastic layer just creates a second, larger gap between the screen and the finger, which they were trying to get rid of in the first place.

Take care of your screen, but do it without the plastic sheet.

If you feel you're the type to drop it at some point. Get something.

LOL.

Apple tries it's hardest to make the device thinner and lighter, case manufacturers try their hardest to go in the opposite direction.

Amazing.
LOL?

That wooden smart cover is lighter than the Apple Smart Cover and less than one millimeter thicker.

Cases are bad argument fails for me for two basic reasons:

1. Stands are important with iPad. Cases double as stands.
2. Transporting your iPad.

What the other guy said.

Here's three awesome things about my wooden cover against your smart cover.

-Looks better
-Stronger
-Wont fuckup my iPad 2. Had to have the genius bar swap my first one, the magnets wore through the rubber lining by the start of april, so after a month I had deep scratches on my iPad from the magnets. I refuse to trust that rubber covering over the magnets, sold my leather replacement that they also gave me, bought the wooden one for the same cost. Hope your iPads dont get fucked up too, I showed them and they replaced it instantly.

Lighter? Really? Well, that's certainly interesting. Not that I'd buy a $70 cover for a device that I'll likely get rid of next year.

Oh, you thought I only said what I did in order to justify my own purchase on an internet forum... I don't have an iPad2 or a smart cover.

Screen protectors always seem like the equivalent of putting plastic over a sofa to me. I've never found them necessary with any of my touch screen devices.

No i thought what you said is what you meant. I meant to say Miniot cover > applecover

LOL, how dare I post a comment (on a forum of all places) questioning the practicality/idea behind a product.

Mental.
That wasn't a comment. It was more like being an asshole for no reason when someone was looking forward to getting their product.

Finally bought something on Zinio now that they have ImagineFX. i thought it would just be scans of mag, but i clicked a weblink and actually opened up a browser

Also bought FHM Philippines ;p

Curiously, do you think the iPad would have made more or less traction had it been introduced before an iPod touch/iPhone? Would it be MORE amazing, or less?
A bit of both. It wouldn't have been "just a big iPod touch", but on the other hand it wouldn't have had the third party apps and developers, or the familiarity to millions of existing iOS users. So it probably would have been more amazing, but I don't think it would have sold as quickly.

Yup, paid $70 for my red leather cover and though it hurt at the time. I can't imagine being without it now.

I really want to try the Miniot cover too to swap out when I want a fresh look.

Hey y'all, I'm asking for an app recommendation, a document portfolio app aimed at lawyers. It will be used for organizing documents around different cases (i.e. different folders). It also needs to be able to get webpage clippings. I suppose Goodreader could work here but something more specifically for lawyers would be nice. And other recommendations for apps useful to lawyers would be nice

I hate being on a waiting list though. 2 months is taking delayed gratification way too far.

I'm using a 'feather' case by incipio. They are releasing a newer version that can be used with apple's smart cover. The sleeve is from power support.

Yeah I want a transparent screen protector (keep it clean from smudges as well as scratches) along with a good snug fitting skin. It doesn't have to be the same package (I probably should've omitted combo from my previous post). I don't really like the aesthetics of the folio covers.
PowerSupport Crystal + Incipio NGP is my favorite combo. Lightweight but still decent protection. The crystal film actually feels better than naked glass and is so clear, you wouldn't know it was there.

I'd rather put something on the iPad so I can let friends and kids use it without cringing. It's a coffee table device. Or you could use nothing and hoard it to yourself because not everyone is as careful as you. :)

Wouldn't buy one of those either.

It was a comment, on the practicalities of it, which I was later corrected on.

Don't get your knickers in a twist just because I have a different opinion.

I picked red on black and love them both as well.

Right you're doing it wrong. Get a powersupport antiglare for iPhone 4 or crystal. They are MUCH easier for your finger than the glass.

The oils on your finger spread on glass and make moves harder on points where your finger hasn't yet touched
, the protectors don't have that flaw. Not to mention they are not thick, or plastic looking like others. Most protectors are shit, but powersupport is a different story.

This is BS. Unless you're Moist from Dr. Horrible or something there is no discernible difference between areas you have touched and those you have not on the glass of an iDevice. While I'm sure there are some screen protectors out there that aren't much of a bother, they are never going to be as good as going naked.

I never said anything about your opinion. I don't care either way if people think cases are worthless or are totally worth it - it's up to the consumer and their dollar. I was only speaking on how you decided to speak up about your opinion (in other words, like an asshole).

So you're not talking about my opinion but you are saying that my opinion makes me an asshole.... right. I think I get it.

Maybe we can all learn from this and not mention our opinions in the future. In any case, this is a thread about iPads, not about how I may or may not be an asshole, or whether I may or may not have an opinion, so lets leave it at that.

underwhelmed by the 'smart cover' it came really long time after my ipad due to a shipping issue and eh.

it looks nice and it's neat that it magnet turns off the device, but what am I supposed to do with the cover while it's open? So far I've settled on 'let it sort of half flap around/half stick to the back of the ipad only sometimes and generally make the device feel less comfortable in my hands'

bit of a waste of cash that smartcover. Red leather does look nice when shut and I do like using it as a half stand in landscape mode on a desk, but honestly the 6 euro neoprene bag I got that fits it proves much more useful.

Is this a joke?

Alright, let me do it like this and I'll leave it at that:

I have a general opinion: iPad's are no good for me. (This is hypothetical; I have an iPad, and it's awesome)

Post A stating my opinion: I don't really see a need for tablets at the moment. Maybe if they drop in price in the future, but at this point in time, my computer can do a lot for me. I'm not sure myself how much it really does for other people, but hey, it's whatever.

Post B stating the same opinion: LOL iSheep buying an iPad that's completely unecessary in their lives when they've already given Apple thousands of dollars on overpriced macbooks. I'll stick with a productive device, thanks!

See the difference?

It's not your opinion that draws scorn, but the lovely condescending tone dripping in nearly every post you don't agree with.

first-world problems, LOL! persecution-complex, LOL!

and to make this post relevant to the thread - anyone try the new iCab with swipe to switch tabs? very nicely done!

It's a beautiful update, the tab switching is great, but when I'm on content heavy sites like Engadget, my scrolling isn't very smooth. Is this just a problem with me or has anyone else experienced this?

i've noticed it on the iPhone 4, but not the iPad 2, oddly enough. how many tabs do you have open before you notice the performance degradation?

Well I am on the iPad 1, so that may be the problem...we inferiors are getting left behind by devs!

I had about 5 or 6 tabs open when I noticed it...it wasn't horrible, but just was kind of surprising to see choppiness.

Fullscreen mode seems to mess it up. That completely fucks up my usage of the feature but, when it works, it's cool.

Yeah I forgot to mention that tab switching doesn't work in full screen. :(

Someone has to step up to the plate after Liu Kang Baking a Pie was banned. It wouldn't be the same thread without one of those stereotypical Apple fanboy that everybody loves to hate.

I've noticed it in all the browsers. I now wait until Engadget has completely finished loading before attempting to scroll.

Dont get me wrong, the leather cover was awesome. I just cant risk it destroying my iPad again.

Anyone tried Pica HD? How is it as a Facebook client? For some reason I'm just not clicking with MyPad, Friendly etc... They just feel wrong.

My iPad 2 (white 64gb Wifi) came last night. Perfect timing too, just did my final thesis presentation yesterday afternoon!

I picked up the pink smart cover, looks nice with the white iPad. I agree about the screen cover problems. My friend installed a really nice one, and it looks perfect and all, but the tactile feel is just awful. Same reason I never used one on my 3GS. They only interface is via my fingers, I want it to feel right, not be some compromise.

Ugh, now to resist blowing a ton of money on apps the first few weeks. Need to make it to next pay check.

I tried it when Friendly was apparently broken by a patch. I found it okay when it worked, but whenever I tried to change the theme it would be stuck loading. Only way I found that fixed it was to reinstall it. In the end, it works well but loading times sometimes take too long or get stuck.

Once Friendly got fixed, I bought it and am using it over Pica now.

Got a question, if I take a North American iPad 2 to China, will I be able to use iTunes and the App Store or will it force the iPad to go to the Chinese iTunes (if such a thing exists). Also, are there any official power converters that would work with the iPad in China?

Good luck... I got mine Friday and I have spent a butt load of money on apps over the past few days. Instant gratification is hard to resist.

For you guys who don't know about it, you can download the AppShopper app (Or use the website) and make a wishlist of apps and it will notify you when they are on sale.

You guys are totally bumming me out.

Why can't we all just be friends?

With my credit card still in transit (had to get a new one due to PSN) I am going to grab an iTunes card tonight, what are the first apps I should buy?

I want a good game. Love Angry Birds, so may be rio and then Sword and Sworcery. Anything else? Need to know how much iTunes money to get right away. :P
