Especially when they thought it didn't look good enough with a gap between the glass and the screen in the iPhone 2G/3G/3GS so they went ahead and FUSED the screen to the glass in the iPhone 4 so that there was less distance between the display and your finger. Adding a plastic layer just creates a second, larger gap between the screen and the finger, which they were trying to get rid of in the first place.Wizman23 said:I agree with you 100%. Putting a screen protector on an iPhone/iPad is 100% pointless. Not only do they make your phone look hideous, they also make the finer touch gestures a pain in the ass to perform. Apple did not intend for their products to work with a big plastic sheet over them.

Apple tries it's hardest to make the device thinner and lighter, case manufacturers try their hardest to go in the opposite direction.
Amazing.
Tobor said:Cases are fine. Plastic covering up your nice glass so it looks and feels like crap is bad.

HenryGale said:Here's three awesome things about my wooden cover against your smart cover.
No i thought what you said is what you meant. I meant to say Miniot cover > applecoverBurger said:Lighter? Really? Well, that's certainly interesting. Not that I'd buy a $70 cover for a device that I'll likely get rid of next year.
Oh, you thought I only said what I did in order to justify my own purchase on an internet forum... I don't have an iPad2 or a smart cover.
HenryGale said:I meant to say Miniot cover > applecover
But you didn't...Burger said:You would think so for $70.
Same price as a leather smart cover..Burger said:You would think so for $70.
That wasn't a comment. It was more like being an asshole for no reason when someone was looking forward to getting their product.Burger said:LOL, how dare I post a comment (on a forum of all places) questioning the practicality/idea behind a product.
Mental.

A bit of both. It wouldn't have been "just a big iPod touch", but on the other hand it wouldn't have had the third party apps and developers, or the familiarity to millions of existing iOS users. So it probably would have been more amazing, but I don't think it would have sold as quickly.mrkgoo said:Curiously, do you think the iPad would have made more or less traction had it been introduced before an iPod touch/iPhone? Would it be MORE amazing, or less?

Yup, paid $70 for my red leather cover and though it hurt at the time. I can't imagine being without it now.HenryGale said:Same price as a leather smart cover..
I hate being on a waiting list though. 2 months is taking delayed gratification way too far.dallow_bg said:Yup, paid $70 for my red leather cover and though it hurt at the time. I can't imagine being without it now.
I really want to try the Miniot cover too to swap out when I want a fresh look.
PowerSupport Crystal + Incipio NGP is my favorite combo. Lightweight but still decent protection. The crystal film actually feels better than naked glass and is so clear, you wouldn't know it was there.Gully State said:Yeah I want a transparent screen protector (keep it clean from smudges as well as scratches) along with a good snug fitting skin. It doesn't have to be the same package (I probably should've omitted combo from my previous post). I don't really like the aesthetics of the folio covers.

HenryGale said:Right you're doing it wrong. Get a powersupport antiglare for iPhone 4 or crystal. They are MUCH easier for your finger than the glass.
The oils on your finger spread on glass and make moves harder on points where your finger hasn't yet touched, the protectors don't have that flaw. Not to mention they are not thick, or plastic looking like others. Most protectors are shit, but powersupport is a different story.
I never said anything about your opinion. I don't care either way if people think cases are worthless or are totally worth it - it's up to the consumer and their dollar. I was only speaking on how you decided to speak up about your opinion (in other words, like an asshole).Burger said:It was a comment, on the practicalities of it, which I was later corrected on.
Don't get your knickers in a twist just because I have a different opinion.

Is this a joke?Burger said:So you're not talking about my opinion but you are saying that my opinion makes me an asshole.... right. I think I get it.
Maybe we can all learn from this and not mention our opinions in the future. In any case, this is a thread about iPads, not about how I may or may not be an asshole, or whether I may or may not have an opinion, so lets leave it at that.

It's not your opinion that draws scorn, but the lovely condescending tone dripping in nearly every post you don't agree with.Burger said:Don't get your knickers in a twist just because I have a different opinion.
scorcho said:anyone try the new iCab with swipe to switch tabs? very nicely done!
i've noticed it on the iPhone 4, but not the iPad 2, oddly enough. how many tabs do you have open before you notice the performance degradation?Stat Flow said:It's a beautiful update, the tab switching is great, but when I'm on content heavy sites like Engadget, my scrolling isn't very smooth. Well I am on the iPad 1, so that may be the problem...we inferiors are getting left behind by devs!scorcho said:i've noticed it on the iPhone 4, but not the iPad 2, oddly enough. how many tabs do you have open before you notice the performance degradation?

Someone has to step up to the plate after Liu Kang Baking a Pie was banned. I've noticed it in all the browsers. Dont get me wrong, the leather cover was awesome. I just cant risk it destroying my iPad again.roosters93 said:This is BS. Unless you're Moist from Dr. Horrible or something there is no discernible difference between areas you have touched and those you have not on the glass of an iDevice. While I'm sure there are some screen protectors out there that aren't much of a bother, they are never going to be as good as going naked.
