Apple iPhone 6 [OT]

Writing from my new 6 Plus which arrived an how ago! Wow, it's just the right size IMO. Any smaller and I'd be disappointed, any bigger and it would really be too much :D

Why do you need to point out it is an android loving site and then pretty much dismiss their final comments? everything they said was correct. There are several phones with a similar size to the iphone 6 that offer larger screens, higher res screens, or both. Some offer OIS too.

iphone 6 is clearly a great iphone. But it isn't a huge leap forward in smartphone technology generally. I don't think anyone would try and argue differently?

GSMArena are Samsung fans and not afraid to hide it. As long as it's a Samsung, favourable reviews are guaranteed.

So speaking about competition, perhaps the first name that comes to mind is the Samsung Galaxy Alpha - it's par excellence Samsung's answer to the iPhone.

They do great tests on their phones in their reviews but their favouritism creeps into their narrative.

I know this isn't a iPhone related question, but it's Apple related. My contact is over with Sprint, and I have moved onto a new phone (something cheap) and a new provider (Virgin) for reasons where an iPhone won't be useful to me for the next few years. So I've been pondering about getting a iTouch and would love to hear some opinions on it.

You're having a laugh surely by accusing GSMArena of Samsung bias, aren't you? They put up those comparisons at the end of all their reviews lol. Read the review of the Samsung Galaxy Arena and you'll find similar comparisons to the other handsets. The Galaxy Arena is Samsung's answer to the iPhone 6. It's worth remembering that GSMArena is UK/Europe based site and that's how Samsung is strongly marketing the device over there e.g.

I'm gonna get a 6 next month. I think the most exciting thing isn't the bigger screen, it's the 32 to 64 GB increase. Going to be so nice not having to worry about that stuff in the near future.

So, is Touch ID really the best fingerprint reader on a smartphone to date?

I haven't seen anything from anyone else nearly as good. TouchID is the shit, coming from the 5, it's gotta be my favorite feature (logging in, authentication for paying for apps, and soon for Apple Pay). It's a killer feature.

is there a better way to sync music/video files? Oh lord iTunes is horrible, there's got to better way? I'm coming from android and I'm used to drag and dropping.

Is there a way to quickly scroll down a webpage? I'm having to swipe a lot of times to get to the bottom of a webpage.

The scrolling is something you'll just have to get used to. At least Apple has a global scroll-to-top feature, but yeah, the speed is quite jarring.

I *love* TouchID. I prefer Android overall but TouchID kills everything else available right now to secure your phone and still get in quickly. I wish the ones I've tried on Android were even close.

The scrolling speed is god awful, I don't understand how after all these years there still isn't an option to move this past turtle speed. Global scroll to top is king though.

GSMArena review is up now. iPhone 6.

Fairly in depth review from an Android loving phone site.

Choice comments rom the review:

Long and short, GSMArena do a nice set of exhaustive tests in their review, but they were never ever going to give a positive review no matter what the iPhone 6 could or couldn't do.

What a weird thing to say in that closing comment. Why would anyone be "looking for a deal regardless of OS?" when shopping for a flagship phone? The OS is the most important consideration in these things.

Oh I'm aware the Galaxy Alpha is Samsung's direct competitor and also that GSMArena is a UK/European website. I'm also aware that their reviews also show alternative phones at the end if the review. But I still believe they have a strong Samsung bias after reading their reviews of flagship phones for a few years.

?! GSMArena is based in the UK/Europe which doesn't have the same subsidies system as the USA. Even when shopping for a flagship phone, people there are quite price conscious.

I've read their reviews for a couple years too and don't notice any Samsung bias (I think they're actually more favorable to Sony). Also the Samsung phones in the Europe are kinda different from their US counterparts (Exonys processor, less bloat etc). I can even recall anandtech reviewing an european samsung phone and waxing poetically about it

GSMArena is like the verge when it comes to Apple sometimes except instead of flowery rhetoric they use bitter salt.

That 6 review is like an Android fan manifesto.

.

If you're manually moving over I think it still needs to be through iTunes (though you can drag and drop into the library). If you want to have a cloud option than any of those services would work. I use primarily Amazon cloud and iTunes Match. Match makes it much easier to have your library available and has kept me from having to plug into iTunes for music for years.

Phones' shipped late last night! Didn't know they were coming from China, but they'll be here by October 2nd! Was not expecting that with an ETA of October 13th-16th. So relieved we'll have them in hand prior to leaving for our anniversary trip.

Now to get rid of these Nexus 5s...

That wasn't my point, though. The OS should be the most important consideration.

If you are just looking for "a smartphone" and a bargain, you probably shouldn't be eyeing the newest flagship devices anyway.

I stopped paying attention to GSMarena's reviews when it was found (and obvious) that they were blatantly altering camera comparison tests between the One X and the S3 to make the S3 look better. Same with displaymate's complete BS GS4 screen analysis.

I'm a long time Android guy ready to give iOS a shot. The entire point of hardware is to deliver the intended user experience. Despite often lower specs on paper (oh no, only dual core and low clock speed?), they deliver in spades.

for you, it is. but most regular people these days consider phone OS pretty interchangeable as long as it has the apps they need.

Most?

I guess you've got some statistical data to show that. Then again, you've qualified it by stating "regular people," which can be any arbitrary definition you come up with.

I record videos in 60 fps but when i play them in iphoto they look 30 :/ even though the info says 60. It looks like 60 on my phone though.

Getting pretty huge second doubts about getting a Plus. I have one ordered since 12th September, and the shipping date has been 10-17th October and not budged a little bit. Kind of annoying, but the more bendgate goes on etc. the more doubts I have about the device.

Seems to be overblown. You can always get it replaced under warranty

welp, sending my Plus back, too big :(

You might want to give it a couple of days. I went from 4 to 6 Plus and love the size.

Don't worry about it. I just kept my Plus in my
skinny jeans
pocket for 3 days in a casino. Lots of sitting, standing, and moving around.

Finally got to play with a 6+ today... WOW.

I was sceptical about the size but holy shit it's awesome. I can use it with one hand and the double tap works fine when needed. I love the size of my 5 and figures the bigger size would be too much, but I'm a believer. First chance I can justify an upgrade to my fiancé, I'm getting this bad boy.

If you're coming from a 4 or even a 5 you really need to give it some time. I thought the same when I had the Galaxy Note.

Yeah I think a lot of us are hoping that turns out to be the case. I do believe it's overblown but it still doesn't inspire confidence that it is happening.

Did anybody have success exchanging an iPhone 6 for a 6 Plus at Apple Stores? I'm looking for some precedent before even attempting it.

Like 9 people had bent phones and Apple came out and said it's not an issue. Your phone isn't going to bend.

Also loving my Plus. The size is great. I had to clear my 5 to sell it and man it was hard to go back to that small screen.

Now if apps would just hurry up and be updated so they don't zoom so much.

Finally got my iPhone 6. <3

Someone posted a really cool transparent case in this thread a few days ago. Anyone know what case it was? I'm interested in buying it.

still getting used to 6+ size. I think my ideal phone size would be between 6 and 6+.

how do non optimized apps look on iphone 6, is it that much distinctive as it is on 6+?

Finally picked up my 128gb space grey 6+ today. I learned I could have had a plus earlier if I would have settled for white (no thanks).

One thing that does surprise me is I really don't notice it when its in my pocket. I worried the bigger size might bother me but that doesn't seem to be the case. The thinness and round edges help here I guess. I notice it less than my 4S actually.

One bad thing is I can't reach some of the letters on the keyboard while holding it one hand. With aftermarket keyboards though I wonder if someone could make a keyboard that would be the same physical size as what was on the 4/5 (and just have no buttons on the far left).

Also the shutter sound on the camera is freaking loud (maybe Japan only?). Much louder than my 4S... The good news is with the speakers only on one side its easy to cover with a finger.

After using it for a few hours its a weird feeling to pick up my 4S now. Everything is so small.

Got my 6+ today (16GB, gold) and oh boy am I happy. It fits my hand perfect and browsing Neogaf or reading Twitter are super great on that big display. Also writing stuff on a larger keyboard feels more comfortable with my sausage fingers.

Only downside is that so far I've only ever gone as high as 16GB on my iPhones and since this was a new one I immediately downloaded all the Apple made apps. Yeah... it was several gigs combined for iMovie, Garageband, Keynote etc. Thank god I never use those but it definitely was a little scary seeing that storage go down. I immediately deleted the apps and now everything looks fine again.

Grover said it best. The 16gb size is "punative". :/

Forget apps. One slow mo video or panorama is HUGE. People will become frustrated with the 16gb phones I imagine.

I'm frustrated with my 64gb 4s.

I want to have a phone lifestyle that doesn't involve me constantly managing memory, and forgetting about certain apps because they have been deleted, etc.

Plus I still have that old iPod dream of having all my music in one place.

My eventual reasoning for the 16GB was that I had a 16GB 5 for two years and had used a little over 1GB of it. Maybe if I get too deep into 240fps or panoramas I'll upgrade to 64GB 6s+ next year.
