I've gone through 3 Netflix apps and iRentMovie is the best one. It has the best search capabilities (i.e. you can search by All, Blu-ray, DVD, and Instant Watch). Instant Watch search only is a must if you stream movies and most apps lack that capability.Ashhong said:

Is there a legit app like 'Wallpaper' on Cydia, that lets you view/use other iphone users wallpapers? Always thought that was a cool idea.

WeatherEye - best weather app out there. love the UI, has radar maps and multiple city support.
Now Playing - best movie showtimes and upcoming DVD viewing app out there.
netnewswire - My RSS feed reader of choice. syncs with newsgator services (2.0 will sync with google reader

Twitterific 2.0 - the 2.0 release bumped tweetie off of my home page. the King is back.
MovieStar - IMdb lookup app. comes in handy sometimes when you can't quite remember the name of that guy who was in that thing.
NYTimes - much improved over previous versions. quick access to the editorial and photo sections. nice formatting
WikiTap - my Wikipedia reader of choice. seems the fastest to my eyes and has pretty acceptable rendering and quick links to chapters within an article.
Library - Delicious library is on the iphone and is a geeky, frivolous app for those who use the mac app to catalog their items. i hope future versions will allow for actual functionality like scanning in new items or assigning loaned items on the spot.
Jaadu VNC. there are several VNC apps on the iphone but i had the most success with this one. Jaadu offers a free utility for the mac or PC that allows you configuration free, encrypted access to your computer via 3G. that's what makes it for me
Star Walk. beautiful astronomy app for stargazing.
Bargain Bin. I tried App Sniper but it was super crashy. this one is free but is not as fully featured. but, it's more stable and gets the job done when you want to check upon app sales.
Bloom. funky ambient noise generator from Brian Eno. kinda cool, kinda mellow. I like it.
Comic Touch. a ton of fun. just great with friends. stretch pinch and add comic captions to the pics you take with the camera. one of the first apps i bought last year. slick UI.

Ok, I got sick of Palringo - it stopped showing contacts for my msn. So I went and bought BeeJive. It is indeed awesome, and worth the 10 bucks. Ok, so it doesn't really do anything more than Palringo, so if you're not into IM, then maybe it's not for you, but I really appreciate solid, well-designed apps that don't go too far, and BeeJive is one of those.

uHear: hearing test app. check your hearing with various frequency tones and a background noise test. free.
1Password: syncs with the Mac app and you an use it to keep not only web site passwords and login info but also your wallet info for credit cards, airmile numbers, etc. free
Xbox Achievement Guide: review achievements for 360 games. nice little app if you're on an achievement run and you're not near your computer. free
Zenbe Lists: simple list making app that syncs with a web based service. free

- Pandora: Internet radio/music recommendation engine (free, though I would pay five bucks for it without hesitation)
- Tweetie: Simple/clean twitter app, better than twitterfon and less clunky than tweetdeck imo ($2.99)
- WunderRadio: Listen to radio streams, I use it for the local sports channel 1310 THE TICKET ($4.99 I think?)
- Wikipanion: Simple/clean wikipedia reader. Pro version lets you queue up stuff locally for offline/faster reading. (free/$1.99 I think)
- Ping: I use it to ping stuff at work, usually after bringing up new servers somewhere ($0.99)
- WinAdmin: Remote desktop app that's a little hard to navigate sometimes, but worth the trouble in a pinch ($9.99 I think)
- Shazam: I almost never use it, but for that occasional time when the wife wants to know who sings the song she likes on the radio, it's a must-have (free)

Google Reader is indispensable.
I've also been using Amazon Kindle heavily recently because Amazon is sly and put up a few books for free that I was interested in reading. It's a bare bones reader app compared to the likes of Stanza, but it gets the job done, and ultimately Amazon's access to more mainstream published works for distribution via Kindle is more important, IMO, than extensive features. It holds my place in whatever I've started reading and I don't really require much more of an e-reader than that.
Tweetdeck seems like a good app too. I'm not much of a Twitter user personally, but I can't deny the usefulness of mining tweets for info and this seems to offer a good interface for keeping track of multiple searches.

WeatherBug Elite - WeatherBug was my favorite app, and when they updated it I was glad to pay a dollar to remove the ads. So awesome.

ESPN ScoreCenter - Maybe not the best score app, but certainly the prettiest and it also has direct links to game recaps on the ESPN Mobile site.
12seconds - The coolest social network that you aren't on. It's like Twitter for videos. You get 12 seconds (like Twitter gives you 140 characters). The current version allows you to take 3 photos, record some audio, and make a little slide-show to upload to the site. The new version (soon to be released) supports video on 3GS.
Facebook - Duh.
Mint.com - Handy iPhone access to pretty much all my financial information on Mint.com.
Amazon - For browsing Amazon and tracking my orders on the go.
ConvertBot - The slickest unit conversion app. The free version will convert most anything you need on a regular day. The paid version (99 cents) will convert almost anything that exists.
Now Playing - Mentioned before. The best app for movies. Excellent info on currently playing movies, and a great Netflix interface. And it's free.

Save Benjis - Lets you look up products to compare prices across stores and websites. Does anybody have a better app for this?

Does anybody know if the Sirius/XM app REQUIRES a 3G connection, or if it can connect over EDGE? I can't seem to find a concrete answer anywhere.

It's not really an app, but a iPhone formated UI. DropBox, the awesome service that syncs any files copied or dropped into the Drop folder on your pc/mac to your account, has a very awesome iPhone formated site. It's so awesome to have access to all of my pictures and documents from my iPhone on a clean and simple UI. They give you 2GBs for free. I find it pretty useful.
As for true apps I'm using
UpNext: NYC in 3D, tap a building to see what's inside, pretty awesome
reddit: read reddit (I use the free one but I think I'm going to buy the official one because it's too plain)
Shovel: read Digg
Gdgt Junkie: news feeds from Gizmodo and Engadget in a nice presentation
myhomework: really nice homework app with categories and a bunch of other bells and whistles
websearch: brings up results from search engines and sites on one page
slydial: call someone in your contacts and get connected to their voicemail for when you don't want to talk
snaptell: take a picture of an item, get prices
AppVee: latest app news, reviews and videos
tv.com: watch shows and clips

I'm not surprised it's not listed given the pretty limited audience for the app, but if you live in San Francisco, or visit a whole lot and ride MUNI, iCommuteSF is pretty indispensable. It integrates the bus/light rail GPS-based arrival time estimates from NEXTBus.com and uses the phone's location data to pinpoint stops near you, stops near you for specific lines, lets you save your favorite stops, etc.
Also, Fandango. But I'm the kind of person who will decide, pretty much out of nowhere, to decide to go see a movie.

Is there any kind of map software yet? I like google maps but I wish there was something that worked like google maps but didn't require internet connection. I don't need it to locate me I just want to be able to see a map and get list directions. Would the new tom tom software work like I want?
