Apple is reportedly planning a design overhaul for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS

Do you think Apple are moving towards merging MacOS and iPadOS?

This dude's handlebar moustache is wild

edit: it's not a moustache, but the bottom part of his beard is grey and unnoticeable at a distance lol

These WWDCs have been so boring the last five years or so.

They should just walk out and say "yeah, the smartphone is basically perfect at this point, whether you're on apple or android. Anyway, here's a new theme."

What the fuck are you talking about? This was about software, not hardware. And they showed a TON of improvements.

Apple has become a parody of itself.

The only worthwhile thing is the shared cinema screen on Vision OS, that's going to be awesome on flights (for all the three couples in the world who both have Vision Pros)

TBH I think at this point with technological advancements moving so slow the best thing we can do is get refined software to take advantage of it. Where do you even go from here lol

I can't understand why my parents still love Apple, because they are like shadows of what they was.

I guess because Microsoft OS is kinda trash.

They might've pushed for that liquid glass aesthetic too hard, this looks kinda ass.

Yeah. I was expecting Windows 7 aero, but this is kinda , IDK, raytracing glasses to those stupid buttons? Why?

This probably will consume some battery and performance thats for sure.

Car Play Ultra takes over your cars AC controls and other features in the car. I do not want to plug in my phone to control the AC or the radio. Terrible ideas.

Incremental improvements, but we never see anything mind-blowing or revolutionary anymore. It's always small tweaks, or min-maxing QoL stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all of that. But most of the recent WWDCs have had the "could've been an email" energy.

the mobile OS were pretty much figured out 7-8 years ago. Like iOS 12. Android and iOS. Same with how Windows 7 was the optimal desktop OS. Since then it's just been teams of thousands of people trying to find a reason to exist.

Indeed, they've matured just as desktop interfaces did decades ago.

VR interfaces are the frontier now.

"Apple Intelligence" is the biggest disappointment over time... Google, Facebook, and everyone else (*except Amazon, but that's a trash company) have all pushed forward with high level foundational language and image models of their own, but Apple feels archaic and lost. And no one cares about stupid emojis -- either make Siri actually as smoothly conversant as ChatGPT voice mode or just give up.

The Apple software engineers/UI designers need to get themselves some secondments in other jobs. Get some shift work under their belt, do some work where that isn't a full signal at all times. Get some cleaning lady jobs that start at different times and different places. Put themselves in 10 year old cars that don't have all the bells and whistles.

The whole set up at the moment is for a people who go to an office at the same time everyday and drive brand spanking new cars.

It would be nice to allow Car Play (or android auto) to have access to my cars battery charge. That way I can plan for recharges during a longer trip. I know there are some work arounds with Waze and a few other 3rd party apps however it would be nice to have native support.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's a CarPlay Ultra feature

is it me or does the new OS seem *less* snappy and buttery smooth? looks like a bit of stutter. I wonder which old iphone devices are elgible for the upgrade

Looks bad, no improvement UX wise in macos. Guess I'll just leave both windows and macos and install an XFCE distro. Want my computer to look and behave like a computer.

current versions of both MacOS and Win are solid .. no reason to mess with linux at all

The more I see about the liquid glass design, the worse it gets.

Overdesigned mess.

I don't understand how it even got this far without someone intervening. Look at this, wtf is this man:

Break the rules aggressively or abide by them; and be consistent. No half measures.

Annoying thing is, some of the visual stuff and ideas (particular animations) are nice at their core, but it's like the designers got a bit too enamoured with it all and got carried away.

I really don't get how anyone signed off on this.

Liquid Ass + Apple Un-intelligence = their iOS team is in bad shape
Without a doubt. This reflects poorly on the culture within the company.

How many people did the liquid ass design go through for approval?

How many revisions were there before the public reveal?

How did nobody with common sense speak up — and if someone did speak up, why did nobody listen?

That's just horrible.

It looks really cool but as a gimmick on a website landing page, not as a core feature of the machine you have to work with all day.

Imagine scrolling through websites and having some visual-warping bar at the bottom nonstop.

What the fuck were they thinking?

I expect heavy revisions between now and when it actually releases, backlash online is fierce.

Its in beta... not sure how many of you participated in the ios7 beta, but it was bad and inconsistent. They'll work alot of this out going into RC, and more in vs 26.1 and so on.
