Raise to Wake might a bit too sensitive for my liking. The screen kept turning on while I was walking with phone in hand. Disabled for the time being.
Really? I've found it just right. Never wakes for me on small movements but when I actually raise it to look at it it will work as intended.

My friend sent a link to the first beta and it was a nightmare, but I'd already done a backup by the time I realized this and couldn't go back 😭

Really hoping this works out better.

I installed both MacOS Sierra and iOS10 on my 6S+ and MacBook Air late 2010. Both seem very stable so far. The only issue I noticed on iOS10 is that the app switcher will sometimes become unresponsive and I have to lock the phone and unlock it to make it respond again. Happened a couple of times. No biggy though.

Love the new widgets and the updated Music and News apps.

Love the new music app, but the playlist selection menu needs to be smaller. The album art is too big and you only see like 5 playlists at a time.

Does the message animation work if you send it to people not on beta? Only tried it once to an ios9 user and it ended up sending as a text message

Not super interested in iOS10, but I'll echo the sentiment in being desperate for WatchOS3. It's gonna change everything.

It's pretty clearly the first time Apple's actually gotten it right.

I'm glad to see WatchOS 3 look genuinely really useful for the first time and I'm super excited to see the Apple Watch hardware come out of beta this fall so I can finally buy one.

It's shocking to me that an updated OS can make it this much better and faster. I had always assumed the slowness of the watch was a hardware limitation. but they made leaps and bounds with OS3. it's shocking.

I think it's pretty clear at this point that the Watch was released as a product prematurely, probably due to the intense market pressure Apple/Tim was under to prove they could still innovate and have hit products in the post-Jobs era. What we got really felt more like a prototype with bad performance, unfocused vision, and several ideas that were just bad.

Is there any way to disable the Music app from displaying every song I've ever purchased in the last decade on my phone? I just want to see what I want to see on my phone.

This makes no sense. You don't want the app to show music you have in your library?

What specifically do you want to see on your phone

Of course it makes sense, not sure what's difficult to understand about only wanting to see music that is physically on the phone's storage.

And no, there is no way to do so in iOS 10 that I have been able to find until now unfortunately.

Because that's not what he said? Therefore I didn't understand his issue

"I only want to see what I want to see"

Just press the big ass Downloads button to see only music on your phone

Oh okay, I misunderstood their post.

You can hide purchases from iTunes I suppose.

And yeah you can look in the sub menu to see stuff only physically stored but until now there has always been an option you flick off which hides everything in the Cloud.

sooooooo is apple maps still a POS compared to google maps like in osx 9?

The emoji/text replacement isn't working for me. Do I need to do something to enable it?

If you mean when you type that part seems to be broken in this beta for quite a few people. If you mean where the text changes to orange and you tap the words you have to open the emoji keyboard for that to happen.

I'm confused. The old button "show offline only" seems to be the same as the submenu in this one. You hit that Downloads button and it saves your preference. Hides everything in your cloud unless it's downloaded onto your pjone

What do you mean it saves your preference? It takes you back to the main Library every time the app is closed (Not just minimised to the background). In the past it was a switch you flipped and your Library (Not a "Downloads" sub menu) would only show physically stored content.

That Downloads submenu is an exact replica of the Library menu. It's practically the exact same thing as hitting a switch. And like you said it only resets if you force close the app. I never force close so I didn't realize it did that.

I'm just saying, one button press on the very first screen will give you what you want. Then again, I use playlists and never look at my whole library so maybe I just don't notice the problem

That being said, it is confusing wording. It should at least say Downloaded Library. I thought that download button would simply show a list of downloaded songs or something

Geez that's all I needed to know, no need for be snark.

I've bought tons of albums for my kid over the years-when I'm browsing through my albums I don't need to see KidsBop.

Well the snark was I guess directed at ramyeon not you.

But have you never tried Apple Music? It's been a feature since day one

How the battery life on this iOS 10 beta?
I remember the first public iOS 9 beta was a battery drainer

So far no different than 9.4.2 or whatever the non beta is. Or at least not majorly worse

Picture in picture on OS X is great, it even works in youtube (right click twice)

Is WhatsApp working ok on iOS?

No issues with it so far

Having issues scrolling in the neogaf reply box though. Instead of the reply box scrolling up the entire page scrolls up. Lame

Not true at all.

The watch was built with some overhead space so they have room to move. Generally, the only times when Apple gets it "right" out of the gate is when they enter a relatively established market with their own take. The smart watch is still in its infancy, and while Apple are not the first to the market, they are relatively early for themselves.

What they did get "right" is already remarkable. and there's a bunch "wrong", but some of that you can't really see without iterating. I feel their approach is appropriate.

Even Apple softies like John Gruber basically admit what I said at this point. The Watch wasn't built with "overhead" space, they merely optimized the OS to work with the sluggish hardware as Apple did with the original iPhone.

iOS 1.0 was limited in functionality, but it was a great OS because it was focused on doing a few things really well. watchOS 1.0 and 2.0 were unfocused, lacking a real vision and purpose for the product to exist. I still don't think they totally understand why the product exists and they seem to be trying to retcon a purpose as they got public feedback, but watchOS 3.0 is a hell of a lot better and much closer to what 1.0 should have been.

I use my watch to:

* "filter" notifications (important ones go to the watch, unimportant ones stay on the phone and are muted)
* track my activity.
* start and stop a run in the Nike+ running app
* use the playback controls glance
* set timers and alarms via siri
* Use it as a remote shutter button for the iPhone camera

I'll welcome the improvements that WatchOS 3.0 will bring. Mostly because the side button will finally be useful and multitasking between apps and watchfaces will be easier now (or, between apps, watchfaces and glances. getting from Nike+ to the playback control glance always had to go via the watchface)
But i don't see it dramatically extending the applications i'll be using my appleWatch for.

Which isn't to say that i don't love the device and wouldn't - if i were to lose or break it - immediately get a new one.
It also looks rad as fuck.

But defending Watch OS 1.0 - which was kinda sucky. or Watch OS 2.0 wich promised "native apps", which implied 3rd party apps performing equally well as the stock apps that came with the watch... not even i could force myself to do that.

Installed the PB on my iPhone 6s right after they released it.

Bugs I encountered:
- Opening the App Store Updates section with pending updates available is a nightmare. It auto-starts downloading/installing them and does so indefinitely every time you open the App Store (it finished updating an app, you close the App Store and re-open -> spins again and performs another install)
- 3D-Touching notifications feels really off to me. It's like the haptic feedback is delayed/off and it's lacking the peek/pop effect. Not to mention that the Mail notifications don't even show me the proper mail body... oh and the messages quick reply feature seems to disappear at random leaving me with the conversation view only
I've only submitted a handful of issues so far (iOS9 Beta had me composing loads more feedback/bug reports).

Other than that it's been smooth sailing. Love the opening/closing animations for apps/folders, the system is surprisingly stable and no slow-downs so far + it seems that my battery life improved quite a bit compared to 9.3.2 (I lost less battery % over night than I did with iOS9).

Has anyone else encountered 'software update failed to install' (or something similar) when trying to install iOS 10? On my 6S, have tried twice now and the third time is downloading.

Edit: Failed again. It doesn't save the update so I have to wait for it to download 1.7GB every time.

iOS 10 control centre is ugly AND they've removed the ability to control sound playback? Why?

[edit] oh they've added a swipe right for no good reason

Yeah, I wish I didn't get the Sierra beta, but I'm backed up now and going back is too much of a hassle. Hopefully the next update fixes the issues I have. The main issue I have is that once my screen goes to sleep the thing goes completely black and the only way to operate it again is by turning the Mac off by the power button. Really annoying. Deleted Duet Display and some other stuff but it still remains. Also, Ulysses (the writing app) is busted but thankfully the developers sent me a temporary beta download that works perfectly fine.

I like it because the music controls are larger on the swiped-right page. I believe if you're still or have recently been playing music the swipe up will just bring you to the music control center page. It remembers which app was last playing sound and can re-open it and restart from where you left off (good for podcast clients). And I like having album art in there too.

So - not all bad from my perspective. I'd go so far as to say I prefer this new way.

protip if you're playing pokemon go: don't get ios10 because the game will have an issue detecting your AR stuff for pokemon catching :(

Much, much prefer the larger tap targets in the dedicated playback controls, so there is good reason for me.

Installed the MacOS beta last evening. Very janky performance so far. Noticeably, just buttons and sliders on various programs and web browsers just seem off. Hard to describe honestly.

If you are a casual user, I don't recommend. Siri is pretty much the only notable addition. Downgrading today. Did this on my 2011 mac mini and 2015 rMBP.

So I ran into three bugs in iOS10 so far. I submitted all of them as feedback. None of them are deal killers, though.

1. Sometimes the app switcher hangs and I have to lock the phone to get it to respond. It has only happened a couple of times though.

2. The News app will sometimes update and keep repeating the same 3 or 4 stories displayed at the top of the screen over and over again. The only way to correct it is to wait until a new update comes out that adds new stories.

3. The new Bedtime app inside of the Clock app allows you to select a tune to wake up to, but selecting and previewing one plays the tunes extremely quiet and I have to hold the speaker up to my ear to hear them. Volume was cranked to the max and do not disturb was not enabled, nor the mute switch.

Also, Pokemon GO's AR feature is bugged.

Um, WHAT? It looks a million times better than it did before. Cleaner, simpler, without a hundred functions that you might not use 90% of the time crammed within the same space. Dividing them between cards makes perfect sense, especially with the added homekit controls. I know design is in many ways subjective, but sometimes I wonder about the tastes of some people here.

Has anyone installed iOS 10 on an iPhone SE? Curious if touch targets have been adjusted back to the 4in screen. Also the spacing within the share sheet.

I gained a full 1.5GB of free space on my 16GB iPhone 6 after installing the beta. No idea how. I did remove the Home, Maps, Stocks, and Apple Maps apps, but there's no way that totaled 1.5GB.

Yes that keeps happening to my 6SE too, gave up last night. Are you in the UK? My iPad managed to update to the public beta.
