Apple Vision Pro | Review Thread + OT |

Soz for bumping an oldie, but seems like the most appropriate place to share this cool little tidbit:

Quite impressive.

The Vision Pro is a really cool piece of hardware, but it's way too ahead of its time. The recent rumors of the Vision Pro 2 releasing in the next year is unfortunate and would be a mistake. Apple needs to take this back into the lab until the tech is mature enough to warrant a Vision Pro 2. Based on roadmaps for panels, SoC, AI and price point, late 2027 might be the right time to release a new headset, and quite possibly not until as late as 2029 given the hurdles we are seeing with pass-through AR, which optimistic roadmaps had scheduled for sometime in 2027, although is in serious doubt.

It won't be viable to the masses until it is cheaper and has a battery in the actual unit to make it wireless.

The Puck battery doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I wish more would us that model. Like I mentioned, even if you lower the price significantly, the gimmick camera based AR, the limited processing power to unlock AR won't allow it to become a mass market product.

It sounds like it's just a spec bump, probably to roll off m2 production and keep something on the market until the next actual iteration with more significant hardware changes.

Yep, which is why I think they should just skip it. Aren't they just poisoning the market at this point? Price cut the original AVP and call it a day.

Still using mine. It's not the easiest to put on but whenever I do, I'm always wondering why I don't use it more often.

I wish Apple had released, say, a $1k headset. Would have had more adoption and more apps.

Same, I really just want a VR headset that can be an iPad replacement, so pure media consumption, no stupid eye screen rubbish, just a decent web browser experience and a cool video player with integration for things like environments and AppleTV 3D movies/YouTube etc. Throw in a VR version of Apple Maps and I'd pay $1500 happily.

I hope PSVR3 has Vision Pro's visual clarity. PSVR2 is awesome, but the screen-door effect takes me out a little bit. I just hope there's a PSVR3, period.
