Definitely. It's the best Netflix and Hulu UI.

I'm referring to the awful Apple TV UI. Netflix's Apple TV UI is OK. I'm strictly talking about the device as a content provider, and since it lacks the absolute best content provider, it's far behind any device that does offer Amazon. The lack of HBO Go also stinks.

AirPlay and iTunes is more important to me than Amazon. I don't trust buying video content from Amazon, and their Prime selection is almost identical to Netflix.

What's not to trust about Amazon's video rentals/sales? Best prices and the best deals consistently on TV and movies. Far more important than the company name written on the delivery system.

I really don't like the Netflix UI on Apple TV. I love it on iPad and iPhone. Though I watch Netflix on all the devices, it's so fast with Apple TV as I don't have to boot it up. And even only with Netflix, AirPlay and Photo Stream, the Apple Tv is still worth it. Here in Denmark we don't have Hulu etc.

So do any of you expect the Mini to be thinner than iPad 2?

Are we expecting iPad Mini to be thinner than iPad 2?
Because I am, with all this talk about ultra thin.
Though it don't look that thin based on the mockups alone.
Indeed, the mockups have looked pretty disappointing, especially compared to the new iPod range and iPhone 5. Not only looks too thick, but also doesn't have such a pleasing curvature on the sides. The weight is a bigger deal though, in terms of the user experience, so I expect them to be class-leading there.

I don't either. Crappy UI, but it's fast, which is a plus.

I have an Apple TV for iTunes/Netflix/Hulu and if there's something that's only available on Amazon Instant Video (hasn't happened yet) I could use the 360 or PS3. I recently ripped nearly my entire DVD/BRD collection and added it to iTunes and it streams beautifully over the ATV.

Netflix is pleasantly fast on every platform I've tried it on (Lumia 800, iPad 3, Windows 7).

I'm referring mainly to the startup time in comparison to PS3/Wii/360. The UI itself isn't any faster/better on Appletv once it starts. You're correct about that.

Mhm. No iMac update = no buy from me for a while. I'll be real disappointed.

Ditto. Been waiting about 2 years for a meaningful upgrade.

Yeah, I have a PS3 for Amazon if I really need it. I've watched a few Prime instant movies on there, but it's basically the same catalog as Netflix.

Besides, the digital copies that come with BluRays work in iTunes, not Amazon. I need a device that works with the Apple ecosystem.

I've yet to see an Amazon UI that isn't fairly terrible. Ironically one of the better ones is the iPad app.

Amazon tends to have better prices, though it's hit or miss when it comes to availability. Particularly when it comes to rentals. New releases seem to have rental options faster on iTunes in my experience. iTunes also seems to get more 'buy/rent while in theaters' choices for new movies.

Having and using both services is a much better option IMO.

It isn't about only being available from Amazon. It's about the fact that Amazon's prices and deals destroy what iTunes offers. Take the movie of the week for example. Apple picks an old movie and makes that the special for an entire week. Most weekends Amazon takes 4 or 5 new movies and marks them down as specials, and during the week does so daily for 1 or 2 movies. That's one of several reasons Amazon has replaced iTunes as my content provider of choice.

Rental dates aren't set by provider. It's set by studio.

Pricing on the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro is said to start at approximately $1699, a $500 premium over the non-Retina model. For that premium, users will receive a Retina display, 128 GB of flash storage instead of a 500 GB traditional hard drive, and a bump from 4 GB of RAM to 8 GB. The Retina version of course also comes in a thinner form factor that omits the optical drive and Ethernet and FireWire ports.

Also Mac Mini to go quad core.

- 2.5 GHz dual-core, 4GB RAM, 500GB Hard drive
- 2.3 GHz quad-core, 4GB RAM, 1TB Hard drive
- Server: 2.3 GHz quad-core 4GB of RAM, 2TB Hard drive

Maintaining current pricing

well this sounds like the amazon service is better for you..... but its not for me. I dont rent films of either itunes or amazon so its a non issue for me.

For the things I listed why I love it is why it is good for me and the reasons its not as good for you dont apply to me.

apple TV is only the best one to people it suits. Other people will have different preferences.... choice is never a bad thing.

The Netflix UI on the ATV is still infinitely better than, say, the PS3 Netflix UI, which in turn is infinitely better than the XBox 360 Netflix UI.

I've gotten a fair amount of free Amazon Video credit lately, one of the reason I go with them, I actually don't pay for very much. They also have better prices overall and work with most Bluray Players without the need for other devices (or iTunes) so my parents buy most of their digital stuff from them. As far as buy/rent video services go they are probably the best, only lacking Android support at the moment.

Also Tobor, if you really think Amazon Instant has the same selection as Netflix you might as well drop Netflix as paying for Prime is actually cheaper per year than Netflix for just the streaming alone.

Personally, I think Air sounds much cooler but I do realize that the iPad Mini name would make more sense for the mainstream.

It maintains the feminine hygiene imagary the product name conjures. iPad Mini - For those light work(flow) days. I actually think iPad Mini sounds nicer than iPad Air.

iirc Netflix has better movie selection and more lesser known stuff but Amazon has more TV shows (especially ongoing seasons). I'm only paying $40 a year for Prime though, so it's a no brainer

Netflix is getting into original content and still has the superior UI on the devices I want to use. If anything, I'm considering dropping Prime.

hmm. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Magic Mike and Seeking A Friend for the End of the World are not available to rent on Amazon right now, for example. I can rent them on iTunes. I'm not sure what the difference would be in that case.

Most people would agree right now but most people don't bother paying for Prime streaming outright. Tobor suggests he sees no difference at which point he should stop paying more money.

Amazon is also getting into original content. UI, well that could be better. Still, you probably have it for the shipping benefit anyway.

That's weird. My wife rented Magic Mike from Amazon last weekend. It's also available now on Xbox/PS3/iTunes but not on Amazon. I have run into weird situations in the past where a movie is on Amazon for rental, but not on any other, and vice versa. Maybe some studios offer exclusivity periods.

"Sees no difference" is not quite right. I see some exclusivity on both, and a large catalog of the same stuff. Either way, Amazon is a step down in convenience for me. Also, Netflix brought Arrested Development back to life. That alone buys a lot of loyalty from me.

You're right though, my reason for signing up for Prime was shipping. Had I signed up for video, I would have already cancelled. As it is, I don't mind paying for both. If the rumors of the shipping terms changing are true, this will be my last year.

I would buy a retina 27" screen no matter the cost.

Wow they are really live streaming it on the web! Any solution for us Windows users?
