American case company that makes precision 'book style' cases, so I would imagine those are dead-on accurate.

Using cheapest of cheap Harbor Freight tools? I'm not sure I'd trust a company that would at least spring for better quality measuring devices...

What processor does the iPod touch use? And what do they price at? Could the mini kill the iPod touch from the market? Also these iPad re fresh rumors are making my 3rd gen iPad feel obsolete.

The 5th gen iPod touch uses the 32nm A5. There will always be a market for a "pocket computer" in the iPod touch. However, there will naturally be some form of cannibalization. We've seen it with the iPhone and the iPod...then the iPad with the PC..the Mini will naturally take some sales from the larger iPad and the iPod touch in some cases. Apple will never "kill" the iPod touch in the sense that they drop it from the lineup. The way they are marketing the latest Touch as a camera means they are trying to going back to the drawing board with it.

new ipod touch uses the A5. starts at 300 for 32 GB (old touch models still avail for 200 and 250)

As for the ipad mini, there's no reason for it to use the A5X instead of the A5 unless it has the crazy high ipad 3 resolution - which I think is highly unlikely. Not sure what that analyst was thinking.

The strange thing was that dude was saying A5X with 512MB RAM.

I don't believe them. Too fat//

Would buy. Keep android, if retina. 2 cent ..

Sold ipad 3 on craigslist ( at 20$ less than retail)

I dunnos. guess we'll all see tomorrow (christmas eve)

iPods are declining pretty rapidly, which imo has to do with more and more people having touchscreen smartphones but thats still 7 mil units per quarter

I could see them killing off the touch and having the Mini take its place

Doesn't help that iPod Touch is a waste of money. It's always at least a full generation behind the iPhone, and for 300-400 dollars you essentially get a device that's viable for a year. Terrible of Apple to not put their latest processor in it at that price. And please no one tell me that it's a good deal because iPhones cost 700-800 dollars. No one with a brain believes they cost that much to make. No one. They're priced that high simply to disuade people from buying them outright and not having a phone contract.

iPods are declining (for one they sat without being updated for two years) but there's no way Apple would drop the iPod touch from the lineup with the iPad mini in place. Will it eat away from sales? Sure, but it won't killed off. If someone is looking for a pocket computer/mp3 player/app machine/calendar/email thing....they won't go for a Mini because you can't just put that in your front pocket.

I dont mean right away but in a couple of years. Depends on the sales of course, theyre still selling the scrollwheel.

And if someone is looking for what youre describing, theyre going to have a smartphone that does all those things

I don't understand why I'm so excited about this. I don't even plan to get a mini! Maybe as a gift, but never for myself.

EDIT:

Oh, right. New Macs. Now I remember why.

Unless that person is budget conscious like me and doesn't want to pay for data plans since wifi is widely available (home, work, local hangouts, etc.).

Granted, the 4th gen iPod touch absolutely sucked. That's why I dropped it to get the iPad. But I still missed having an iOS device in my pocket. Once I got a MacBook Pro (and sold the iPad 3) and the latest iPod touch being a fantastic product...owning a Touch again made sense for me to go along with my non-smartphone.

12 hours to go! some recent rumors that I don't think have been posted yet

bgr, ipad refresh with upgraded front camera and optical bonding: http://bgr.com/2012/10/22/new-ipad-...facetime-camera-and-optically-bonded-display/
We were able to share some of the first photos of Apple’s upcoming iPad 4 a couple days ago, and this time we have been sent photos of a new iPad’s display assembly. The most noticeable changes we can see are the fact that the front-facing camera cutout is larger than the previous model, allowing Apple to include a bigger sensor. We’d bet that Apple will continue the 1.2 megapixel FaceTime HD camera from the iPhone 5 and iPod touch here. One more change that will be most welcome is the fact that the screen will be optically bonded to the screen, reducing glare and improving the picture. This time around, we have not be clearly told whether this part is from Apple’s 3rd-generation iPad refresh that will mostly be announced tomorrow, or for another iPad model set to be launched at a later date. We’d assume it is the refreshed 3rd-generation model. If so, that would be a new Lightning dock connector, upgraded FaceTime HD front facing camera, optically bonded display, most likely improved 4G LTE support across the globe, and possibly a faster processor. We will find out very shortly. Thanks to Apple Museum Taiwan and Chronic.

tom's hardware, only ipad mini announced tomorrow: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/iPad-Mini-Tuesday-iOS-Nexus-10-MacBook,18631.html
A very trusted source close to Apple's media event on Tuesday reports that the company is only revealing the iPad Mini -- nothing else. The 7.85-inch tablet is also slated to go on sale next Friday, followed by the iPad 4 in the Spring.

According to the source, Apple's not spilling the details until the actual event -- Apple PR likes to "keep its cards close to its proverbial chest." Previous reports indicated that the company plans to unload 12 models in two colors and possibly three connectivity options (Wi-Fi only, 3G and 4G), totaling 24 units.

Of course, we've heard lots of different rumors about what Apple plans to showcase tomorrow in addition to the iPad Mini, spanning an updated iPad 3 to a Retina 13-inch MacBook Pro. But what we DO know is that Apple is officially launching an attack on the 7-inch tablet market starting tomorrow, and Google plans to fire right back in the 10-inch market on Monday. Kapow.

The battle begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. PDT / 1 p.m. EDT.

Silly Portenzo straight up posts a pic

Looks so fat even thought it isn't.

I don't know about any major changes, but a slight modification of the iPad 3rd gen is in line, not just because of the lightning bolt connector, but doesn't the non-North American version not support LTE currently?

Blehhhh so sick of the silver back. Was hoping they'd pull an iPod Touch 5th Gen look with the minis and offer a bunch of choices.

That will be next year. I think this year will be "let's just make as many as possible in two colors and sell them." Once the supply chain is better for them, then get to other colors.

I will be very disappointed if there's no new iMac announced as I need one now as well. Would suck to wait until next year.

No way i'm waiting till next year. They are a large ass company. Some of them must be doing some actual work, right? How can they be so slow and arrogant? There are millions of people working on old ass imacs, mac pro's now. They feel neglected. It's not like the competition is standing still here.

See I always thought the iMacs were kinda in a unique position. There aren't really any other all in one desktops that are any good are there?

So I read at Macrumours that the new IPad mini will start at $329 for the 8GB Wifi version. Price doesn't sound good tbh if it's just a smaller IPad 2.

http://www.macrumors.com/2012/10/20/ipad-mini-pricing-to-begin-at-approximately-329/

9to5Mac who is the one who came up with that claim (MacRumors is just reposting the 9to5Mac story) went on to add the same people who tell them the 329 price also say it'll run the A5X not the A5 which is the iPad 3 cpu. So who knows what is going on any more.

But why do they need the A5X?

I hope it's $329 for 16GB WiFi at least. Or else it really should be a bit more than a mini iPad 2.

The only reason it would have A5X would be retina which 95% isn't happening.

I thought the only difference between the A5 and X is the additional GPU pipelines required to drive the screen on the new iPad.

on the one hand, if you absolutely own a market segment you can get lazy with releases.

On the other hand, if you're Apple and release a new product in a line every year like clockwork, some of your market stops buying near the end of a predicted cycle, so you have pressure to release at least a refresh

Yep. A5X doesn't make much sense because it was only ever a stop-gap chip to power the retina screen. The non-GPU benchmarks were no better than the iPad 2.

Can people in certain countries say if they got the live stream and in which country?

So far these countries have it on their Apple TV:

USA
UK
Australia
Germany
Hong Kong
Philippines
Netherlands
Norway

Apple Store is down.

According to 9to5Mac, they'll release 4 new Lightning cables (USB, VGA, SDCard and Digital AV).

Also a new power adapter with 12w instead of 10w (probably for faster charging) for The New iPad. There'll also be a 60W MagSafe, likely for the new MacBook 13" Retina.

I hope they announce the iPad Mini. I want the 32GB version. A new MacBook Pro and the Verizon iPhone 5. Going all Apple before this year ends out.
