Applying for jobs is exhausting and soul-crushing

Can we talk about how unfair interviews are to nervous people? The whole concept is unnerving and there's always a lot riding on the line.. And you expect me to be perfectly casual and confident while faking enthusiasm for yet another lousy job that won't fulfill me in the least?

I've loosened up, but if my nerves get the best of me I'm a wreck. 100 percent fight or flight response.

Which are the best recruitment agents/ agencies?

They tend to be regional and based on industry specializations--IT, Law, etc.

I've never looked for them. They usually contact me. It helps having a LinkedIn presence and applying to jobs constantly, even on the job.

You're allowed to be nervous, and you're allowed to apologize and say that you're nervous and very excited to be given this opp. As long as your resume impresses and you can speak to some of that, I don't think anyone really gives a fuck if you're 100% confidence wo/man or not. Not everyone with a job is super confident, they just convinced the HR rep that they could do the job well.

Another interview tomorrow, what makes me worried is that they called me up for an interview the day after I applied to the position which has never happened to me so for some reason I'm a bit skeptical.

It's been 4 months now (which I know is nothing compared to some of you guys :( ), just want this to all end so I can feel productive again.

you will find them very easily if you apply for any job on places like Indeed or careerbuilder. just post your resumee and they will contact you, very often.

I actually got a call this morning for a decent paying job(i'm mostly looking for work experience) from an agency i've been talking to for like 4 months now.

Have a question: managed to land a government position. Well, sure of it since my name and occupation appears on said institution webpage. But haven't signed the contract yet.

Question is, should I call the institution and ask them when will be the contract ready for be signed? Or wait till they call me?

This one gets me as well. I don't understand how people are honestly expecting a genuine passion for [CRM/ERP/DBA/ACRONYMS, SON] ... like I'm gonna' dedicate my life to a software solution? What value does a person get from that outside of career prospects?

My career is more important to me than anything else. But I just can't sit there and pretend I've waited my whole life for a job at your company that implements data warehousing or whatever.

This leads into another issue I have: nobody sees enthusiasm in me, so they assume I won't care about my work. Is this a common predicament? How do I convince someone that the opposite is true, and they'll have to forgive my reserved interview approach? Explicitly saying as much doesn't seem to elicit any kind of response, so I'm left thinking they must take me for another in the long line of liars looking for work.

I think I bombed mine for the nth time.

Talking to a dead audience who doesn't laugh or react to your responses, so you throw the panel a curveball by asking them questions like "Can everyone hear me?" Motionless responses and dead air. Almost like you're talking to a herd of sheep or to no one in an empty room.

The experience is extremely nerve racking.

Have to impress someone within 5 minutes. Otherwise, the rest of the interview is looking at cognitive bias by confirming illogical suspicions to write you off as a candidate.

Sent an email last week, they told me that I was accepted. Today was searching something and found my name.

Anyways, called them and they told me next week the contract could be ready.

I really hate the waiting after you have a solid interview and feel everything went well. I don't want to be a cynic and I've been getting nightmares of getting rejection emails from this job I really want, shit sucks.

I had a hour long job interview at a fairly large company last Tuesday, but haven't heard back yet.

Anyone know how long it can take for larger (privately owned) companies to get back after an interview? Five people interviewed me in a conference room, so it was a bit intimidating lol.

Really hope I get this position as the commute and hours would be decent as well as the pay too.

That doesn't mean you're getting bad mouthed.

Actually, it's very unlikely that's happening because employers could be sued to oblivion if that's found out.

That's pretty simple - get a friend or family member to give them a call and say "I'm xyz from xyz, just had an interview with this guy, yada, yada, yada."

I doubt that's happening, but I can totally get where you're coming from - honesty I'm getting a little worried that my last job might be saying stuff about me, but I don't have them as references, so that puts me at ease a little. (Although one of the guys I worked with was called and gave me a glowing reference...so I don't know)

For me, other than putting in for a job yesterday that's local (a very rare thing in my field) I'm seriously considering giving my own freelance business a crack. I've found this cool website - byregina.com - that has a ton of useful info, so I'm just planning it very carefully right now.

Got nothing to lose, really...

Not a desinger - I'm actually an Audio producer in Australia, but my focus in in Radio. (Commercials and the flashy bits you hear between songs.)

I'm wanting to expand a bit though - I want to learn about video editing and Digital/Social media, so that way when Radio finally impodes on itself (it's been gradually doing that here) I'm not left in the dark.

Video editing is something I am looking into. Any resources you are using currently or you haven't start learning about it yet?

No business card, but I do have the phone number for the guy who gave me the phone screen interview so I could contact him. I'm probably going to wait until Friday, if I don't hear anything till then I will call. Thanks.

Hair drug tests can detect drug usage up to 6 months in age.

I'm under two personal agencies right now and one company I had AC (assesment centre;sp) with last week just got me info that they've selected someone else for the job.

Still waiting for the second agency and what report they will get from the last interview I had at one int. company.

I am really getting to see in the perspective and my lack of schools and certificates begin to fall on my mind.

Will get active...I've nearly 100%'d GTAV so that will be good time to directly talk to companies and not just let the agencies do the nanny work.

So I've got an interview for a government job on Friday and was a bit curious on attire. Is it recommended to wear a tie or would that be too formal?

Applied for Court Usher/Messenger in London like 6 months ago...didn't get past the interview but got put onto waiting list...

...they came back and may have found me a place! If I can get past the Vetting Process...

...hopefully they don't ask for references or i'm going digging for Zero-Hour Contract References and References for the Olympics...which has disbanded...

Yeah, recruitment agencies are the best. They find jobs for you. I applied for a job on Craig's list not knowing it was a recruiting company that posted it. That job fell through but they kept getting me interviews until I got a job. Of course I was still applying myself, but working with a recruitment agency seems to add a sense of legitamency.

Nah these temp agencies are ass, giving me jobs where companies lay off temps after a couple weeks and they haven't found me anything since.

I just came back for an interview today for basically a telemarketing job. The weird thing was the the place was in one room inside of a building of a for profit college and they didn't even have a sign on their door. I went in and there were a bunch of cubicles with no one in them. I was curious if I was in the right place because it looked deserted when one guy rose up and I asked him if this was the place and he said it was. Apparently, he was the only employee there as I asked after my interview with the one guy who runs the place and that employee had only been working there for a week.

My interviewer didn't tell me exactly what stuff I'd be selling over the phone, but he did tell me how much I would be making or could and that one employee sounded like he enjoyed being there as he busted out the calculator on his phone and started showing me how much I could be making depending on how many packages I sell.

The place seemed highly suspicious to me. I'm not sure if I'm going to take it, but a bitch been out of a job since June, so I might take it and see where it goes.

It's the WORST. I start a new job in a few weeks but the interview process was a nightmare. The timeline was basically:

1.) Phone Interview
2.) Face to Face Interview
3.) Another Face to Face Interview
4.) Another Phone Interview
5.) Another Face to Face Interview
6.) ANOTHER Face to Face Interview because the person they wanted me to also interview was sick that day
7.) Wait to hear back for two weeks
8.) Job Offer
9.) Wait two weeks for background check to clear
10.) Sign contract

Took about two months from the "start the interview" process to the offer.

In a similar boat, though they'd have a decent reason for turning me down: i'm still in school and could only give them 16 hours a week until January (i'm out in December, but the following Monday after class ends is the Monday before Christmas). But i had an interview last week that seemed like a perfect fit, and now i'm starting to check emails more often. They seemed fine with the idea of starting part-time, but you never know how much of that is genuine or them just lying so that they don't burn that bridge prematurely.

Nervous because i'll be on my own right in the heart of winter with high heating bills if i don't get anything straight out of school. But i'm also confident because i find 3-8 jobs a week which are good fits, either here where i live or elsewhere. I'll have a master's degree, i have experience, but i've also been in that pit of "unemployed and unemployable" despair before...

The part i hate about online applications is that everyone has their own little system. "Create a username and password to make your profile." Every. single. time. Fortunately i'm looking at a lot of not-for-profits which usually skip that and just have you email it all in.

To much going on. Need to lie down

London agencies have been dropping me as soon as the one role they had in mind doesn't work out, and never bother to contact again. In my year of applications, only one recruiter has got me to an interview stage with several clients.

Keeping in contact with agencies might help, calling them every few weeks to ask if they found anything will make it more likely that they put your name forward.

So this is sort of off topic but I can't create posts but I have a question that maybe someone here has the expertise to answer.

I work a full time 8-5 job with a 1 hour lunch break and I applied for a second part time job in order to keep up with bills including food/clothes for my daughter and soon to be born son, my wife also works 2 jobs but she is nearing the end of her pregnancy and is getting stressed out, but anyway the second job I picked up is a measly minimum wage job at GameStop, and I was told I would get at least 7 hours a week there which is all I really needed, but they ended up only scheduling me 1 day a week which is about 3-4 hours, on top of that my hours kept getting cut so the days I was scheduled for 2 ended up just being 1 day, and this happened nearly every other week. When people called out I would go in no problem on short notice because I needed the hours. Last week I was scheduled for one day and she called me a couple hours before I was supposed to go into my shift and told me she had to cancel my shift because they weren't meeting sales goals, so I told her I was going to give her my 2 weeks because I need to be able to afford things for my family and she told me I was going to get at least 7 hours a week. Through a text message she told me not to come in for any future shifts after I gave my 2 weeks. I am looking for another job now but it took me a few weeks to find this job to begin, so I am wondering if I am able to collect any kind of money from GameStop temporarily because I'm wondering if she "fired" me for telling me not to come in for futre shifts after I gave my 2 weeks and lied about the amount of hours I would receive every week. I don't like handouts and I work hard for what I have but I am struggling right now and am wondering if I can get some money from them until I find another job, which could be hopefully next week but possibly longer if I am unlucky. Sorry for the wall of text, hope someone knowledgeable can answer though.
