Are all MMORPG's so damn buggy? (WOW)

Its my first time playing an MMORPG (WOW) and one thing thats stood out is how buggy the damn game is. I mean, come on, no (sane) company would ever allow a game this buggy to ship to the consumer. Or, are MMO's not held to the same standard as other games?

MMORPGs have some many different variables that it's virtually impossible to ship them without bugs unless everyone used the same system.

And WoW is one of the least buggy MMORPGs to ship by all reports.

So games designed to be used with the same system should be bug free?

If you think WoW is buggy, look up World War II Online or Anarchy Online. You ain't seen nothing yet.

Out of curiosity what bugs have you encountered that shocked you do? In the Open Beta, aside from the Database Server being fucked over all the time I never encountered anything truly bad. Maybe the retail had a few errors looked over?

WoW is very buggy. But it's nothing game wrecking, and little that cant be fixed with a relog or some form of adjustment barring a few of the broken quests (some more annoying than others, esp. the class specific quests), still pretty solid for a launch product.

Edit: Examples of bugs? There's a metric ton of stat and ability bugs.

Aspect of the Hawk on Hunter, Seal of the Crusader on Paladin, my Warlock's Soulstones are bugged, ressing people for the 400/700 HP/MP? Hooray. Turning their max HP/MP to 400/700 upon res, forcing a relog, boo!

There's also a lot of pet bugs and latency bugs, and I can think of a good half dozen broken quests off the top of my head. The worst being the Paladin LV.20 quest in terms of popularity, although at least you can work around that one if you encounter the bug.

Most comedic bug is the sword/shield glitch my Paladin friend has. I forgot the specifics, but it causes his 1H sword/Shield atk rating to be about 10 DPS higher than it should be.

I've played pretty much every MMORPGs from launch and WoW is the least buggy of them all, it's gold quality.

'Cept a few bugs like corpse looting freeze etc.. I haven't encountered much.

I haven't noticed any bugs yet myself, except for some quests that are perhaps assigned to players waaaaaay below the level necessary to finish them (alone). They should have some quests open specifically to parties.

I have noticed some irritating quest bugs, some time when you have to escort someone they will vanish. Other then that the only other things that bug me are the screen lockup in the auction house (have to use a lvl limit so not to many items show up) and the griffin bug (takes off but only hovers not getting to your destination, /exit and come back fixes it).

I've only encountered one bug so far, which was when trying to complete a quest, the guy didn't have a "?" over his head and wouldn't speak to me. I needed to log out for the night anyway, and when I came back, it worked just fine. Blizzard was shutting down the server for an hour right as I was logging out, so that's probably what fixed it.

I've seen a ton of bugs in the game, but people who were in alpha said this game is more polished now (in alpha state) than most MMORPG's at launch. Some bugs I've encountered:

* Flying into Sepulcher (on a bat), NPC's will not let you claim a quest reward unless you leave the zone and return.

* Yesterday I was stuck in the ground and couldn't move or see my character. This has happened before, but this was the first time I was permanently stuck. I logged off, logged back on, tried the "unstuck" command 4x, tried hearthstoning, and nothing. I filed a GM petition, and after half an hour got one to respond to a message in General chat. He got me out eventually.

* I hear the broken shinbone orc quest that takes us into Wetlands at level 30 (Note: Orcs do NOT want to go to Wetlands, especially at that level) does not work. So anyone trying that quest gets ganked left and right for an impossible to finish quest (the shinbones keep breaking).

* People were complaining on the msg boards that stamina doesn't give you extra hit points, even though it is supposed to.

* I believe there's also a bug about one of the warrior's abilities, in which the stat graphic onscreen is not reflecting what it's actually doing in-game... so misleading information.

* There was a mageroyal herb that appeared on the mini-map but was not there in-game. This was near Sepulcher, and I hear it happens with other herbs too.

I've only encountered 2 bugs and one was fairly major (it was minor for me but that was because it didn't cost me much coin) and the other is quite minor. The major bug I encountered was when I bought Suffering rank 1 for my Voidwalker and I taught it to him, but he did not learn it. 36 silver down the drain, but big deal... I can recover that much easily. The other was when I accepted new quests, other quests that I abandonded would tell me that I accepted them again (but they wouldn't show up in quest log) becuase I still had the associated quest item in my inventory. When I relogged this error went away. Other then that I've had no crashes and only very infrequent server drops (the "character name already exists" error after getting d/c'ed is annoying though).

I've had a couple of quest bugs similar to what has already been mentioned. I've also had two complete crashes to the desktop. But overall it's been a good release, especially compared to other MMOs. The only cleaner release I can think of was NA release of FFXI, but that game had over a year in Japan to iron out defects.

Scratch that, I have one major bug that's been there for me since closed beta, which my wife just reminded me of.

Every so often, the game will freeze and crash my entire PC, rebooting it. Doesn't seem to be a reason why, it's usually when I'm running down a path and looking around from left to right a few times quickly, or once I was standing still next to someone that was casting a spell over and over. The sound stutters for a second and then I crash.

I formatted two nights ago with a fresh XP install, with all drivers on everything up to date. I was hoping this would fix it, but apparently not because I crashed again since then. I've looked through Blizzards troubleshooting files without much luck, and I'm not sure if I'll keep my subscription if I can't figure out what's causing the crashes. :(

For reference, I have a P4 2.8ghz HT machine with 512 ram, Radeon 9800 pro 128 meg card, and a Soundblaster Live! sound card.

Any ideas? I'll post this somewhere over at Blizzard too later tonight when I get home and can access their site.

A lot of the stat graphics are broken (if I get what you're saying), not just Warriors. Druid's Mark of the Wild instantly comes to mind. It'd also be nice if the ones that werent broken reflected talent additions to the skill.

Instance Bugs suck, such as:

-Not being able to enter instance (goes to load screen but does not load).
-Spawning below the ground in an instance when you retrieve your corpse (it's a long long fall)
-Instances telling you that you're not part of that group even though you are

ect ect

How many sticks of ram?

1x512 or 2x256

WoW is a bit picky when it comes to ram and miss matched sticks. I had problems becasue I was using 2x128 + 1x256 = 512 and a number of times I had to pull the 2 128s just so it would not crash during patching. When I changed MB and went with one stick of 512 I get no more crashes.

Might not be your problem but it is something to look into.

Speaking of spawn bugs. The bug where monsters spawn IN objects is quite humorous. Was a really common problem around Darkshore and Ashenvale.

Level 30 is easily high enough level to go into wetlands (wetlands 20-30). Problem is you're going to have to get past alliance. But that's the gist of things, me and my alliance buddies have to go into horde populated areas to finish quests, even sometimes horde owned areas. This isn't a bug, just a way of the game.

Yeah, sometimes herbs will spawn below or above ground. So if you don't see one look up... if you still don't see it, it's in the ground.

Final Fantasy XI is pretty solid in terms of that.

Well except for monster movement patterns when a zone is lagged (due to too many people) ...well really just Valkurm Dunes.

Only bug that really bothers me is that sometimes Cheap Shot gives no combo points. It has been like this since beta. Come on Blizzard, FIX IT. Besides that I haven't noticed too many. There were some problems with loading instances a few weeks ago, but that seems to have went away. WoW has been the most bug free MMO launch I've seen.

I believe 2x256 of the same brand of ram. I'll check when I get home tonight, thanks.

Hmm... something similar was happening to me, although sound didnt stutter. Changing the graphics engine to OpenGL fixed the problem, so if you're still having it, it may be worht a shot. Just go to the WTF folder in your WoW directory, and open the config file in notepad. Either add or change the gxAPI "direct3d" to gxAPI "opengl". Hope it helps.

No, this is a bug. The quest is you have to go into Wetlands, a heavily Alliance area next to Ironforge, to find 8 sturdy shinbones. You get shinbones off of drops in the area, but you have to test whether they are sturdy or not. If they are not sturdy, they break, and you have to move onto the next one. The bug is that all the shinbones break, so you can never complete the quest. So, you're getting ganked left and right for an item that doesn't exist. I'd say it's a bug.

Yeah, sometimes herbs will spawn below or above ground. So if you don't see one look up... if you still don't see it, it's in the ground.

This isn't above a cave or underground. It's just a false report of an herb, or it's so far underground that you cannot get to it.

Only encountered two things... one of them frequently, but meh.

- Looting. Be it herbs, veins, corpses, skinning results, or quest collectibles; now and then, my character gets stuck looting. He kneels, nothing pops up... I can move around kneeled, fight, talk to NPCs, but I can't loot anything else until I log.

- The "Mist" quest in Tirisfal Glades. You escort X back to Y, like you're supposed to, but talking to Y just gives you a self-pity blurb about how they let X get lost. And you're timed. And the GMs never get back to you in tiiime. Blast. Not that the rewards are all that hot, but quest exp is quest exp!

I guess that's why it's pretty much bug free on OS X. :P

I've only encountered a few bugs, and all of them have been on the server's end and have nothing to do with my system. Most of them have been buggy herb locations that cause my character to crouch and not stand up until I relog.
