Are Retailers No Longer selling the Series X?

I was trying to check for Series X prices and availability to see how retailers reacted to the price hike but strangely I can't seem to find the Series X (physical) being sold at all.

I checked Target, Bestbuy and Walmart but They all only carry Series S digital. I think Walmart had some but it was from a weird 3rd party seller.

Did MS stop sending stock after the price hikes?

At best this is a out-of-stock situation, at worst this is a delisting from Target's systems, which would be part of discontinuing the SKU.

Was curious, there's at least one target near me that's selling the white digital series X, it's also the last one.

Edit: I forgot to screen shot the price, it's $549.99

These things are being discontinued. It's blatantly obvious. You can't even buy a new one for ship to home on GameStop.

I wish they'd have the balls to just come out and kill it.

I'm seeing SX's available on Walmart, for shipment though, in-store seems to be out of stock nearby.

I mentioned this a few days ago. It seems like Microsoft is doing a quiet discontinuation of hardware.

I think they may have jumped the gun on tariff pricing and just decided to clear out what was available at retail and call it a day.

If this remains the case through the next 12 months, it's going to be fascinating to see what kind of boost Sony gets for GTA6.

Even through Microsoft directly, it seems you can only get 3 of the SKUs: XSX black and 2TB carbon black, you can't get the 1TB white digital. You can also only get the 512GB Series S. It'll be interesting to see how long they have the XSX Black.

They have all of them for sale on xbox.com. waiting for black Friday to get another series x for the bedroom.

My plan of accumulating $5 gift cards each month over the years has really backfired.

It's already falling to pieces because:

1) Xbox increased prices on all their consoles.
2) Supposedly you can only use a certain amount of the redeemed gift cards on purchases on the website.
3) Beyond that if there's no more consoles I'll have all that banked for nothing.

I was planning on buying their next gen console, but seems like Xbox is pulling out of the game

Then there should be a bunch available?
If there is no demand, the retailers reduce the quantities they order from the OEM.

Seeing a situation now where they are hard to find means that demand dwindled months (quarters) ago. So retailers' orders have in turn reacted to that, which in turn is affecting stock.

Oh look, vile nial strikes again!

"no demand" = 160k sales of Series consoles in the US just in March alone.

I don't know which is the best part of this post, the 160K sales in March alone!! or the 'vile nial' part. Like that name, though.

They are using all the systems for the gamepass server farms since they not selling and they are all in on gamepass.

Series X white digital was the mid gen refresh, series x is perfect because it doesn't have RROD, focus on games, the ram, 4k, super cool menu/xbox live/game pass interface, controller etc. I play the series x everyday.

Possible they held back on their last few shipments during the massive spike in tarrifs from China.
Wonder if they're either waiting for things to stabilize before re-importing and adjusting the price, or they're going to let ASUS take the import hit for the handheld while they collect licensing fees.

MS most likely quietly stopped production of new Xbox consoles around the end of 2024. What we're seeing is that stock that runs out is not being replenished, first in Europe and Canada, and now in the US

I don't get MS, raise the price on consoles (handheld on hold) but there doesn't seem to be many, releasing games on PS5 yet bought Activision/Blizzard etc. So their plan with buying the studios they got is to publish on PS5 and GamePass subs? Am I missing a plan here that seems like a good idea?

Retailers hardly stocked XSX as is especially when they stopped selling xbox discs too. The price hike is mainly for buying it directly from the MS store. There is going to be little to no retail restock happening for the dying console. The hike just means they make more profit on those who, for whatever reason, decide they still want an xbox now and it's more going to help set people up for the sticker shock of future hardware sold at a profit.

I know I've posted this before but my local Walmart (pretty much the only place in my town to get consumer electronics locally) stopped stocking Xbox consoles after Holiday 2023. They put a sign on the inside glass of the cabinet where they had been stating anyone wanting an Xbox Series console could order one on the Walmart website.

That sign had been in the cabinet since January 2024.
Last week, I noticed the sign had been taken down.

Well, we're talking Gaf logic here:

Xbox not available - Bad for Microsoft
Xbox available - Bad for Microsoft

Playstation/Switch not available - Good for Sony/Nintendo
Playstation/Switch available - Good for Sony/Nintendo

I don't disagree that Microsoft will be gradually phasing out traditional consoles. But the bias on here is pretty blatant.

When sales are high, lack of availability is good for the manufacturer.

When sales are low, lack of availability is a worrying sign.
