Right now no. I already have a PS4 and early in the cycle there aren't enough games to justify it and I buy most games on a PC. I barely use my PS4 already with how few games there are now that also aren't on PC. I can't do that to my wallet again. If it had backwards compatibility then I would consider buying one in a more near term. I won't buy an Xbox One anytime soon but in the future when it's cheaper. Probably even a Kinect if they go in a direction with it that I hope they do.
My understanding is that there's some always listening feature that the you can turn on. Create a low power state just a bit more than standby/sleep that allows a bunch of always listening apps for voice controlled devices. I imagine it can be used like phones where there are a bunch of apps to interact with internet of things type devices except now voice controlled and not having to open specific apps to use. Just background apps after pairing waiting for voice commands.
It would be a real nice gimmick. They would have to get the non-gaming/media type app store out first but Kinect as a remote for internet of things devices has a lot of potential. It would probably be a toy for the rich for a while as I imagine the only ones with network connected lights, fans, HVAC, toasters, windows, blinds, internet enabled audio receivers, and all the other random crap having network technology applied to into it would be pretty wealthy.
The internet of things is approaching. "Xbox make coffee", "Xbox turn on shower 76 degrees Fahrenheit", "Xbox open windows", "Xbox switch to front door camera feed", "Xbox adjust chair height 2 inches, rotate vertical 20 degrees, rotate horizontal 10 degrees". All of this kind of stuff while not having the Xbox fully on. It probably won't be a huge selling point because at this point crap like that really are toys for the rich. I don't have any of that stuff but maybe in the future there will be a desktop chair with am Xbox One Kinect app. Next level laziness. Honestly I imagine something like this happening sooner on PC when they release the Kinect 2 for PC and random internet maker movement people start giving it a go.
