Arizona bars state benefits to immigrants allowed by Obama to stay

People from AZ ( including me) totally support this. There are just way too many illegal immigrants here on food stamps and other free benefits. If they don't like it, they should just move back or to a new different state, which is the whole point of this.

I'm just merely telling you that any form of id can get you a job. I've already said my who my last three employers were. I've never had to pull out my drivers license during an interview.

In every job I had, I remember filling out a piece of paper that required me to show proof of identification, and it was always my driver's license and social security card.

Its a tough situation. If I was forced to sneak into another country to support my future family, I would hope that there would be transportation in place, buy obviously it shouldn't be expected. And it's hard to just let everyone in who is willing to work/pay taxes
i should say that i support what was done today by obama. my chief problem is with people blindly attacking jan brewer for basically enacting the same law on a state level and crying foul/racist/batshit.

And you can use any proof of identification. I've used my state id and SS card. My sister has used her drivers license and SS card.

I have a hard time feeling non-apathetic about an illegal immigrant not being able to find a job in this country because he or she may not be able to get a driver's license.

Say what you will about immigration policy and whether some form of amnesty might be appropriate, I do not have a strong opinion on the matter, except to say I can sympathize with those who cannot find safety and opportunity in their own country, and can also certainly sympathize with children who had no say in the matter. But as it stands, if the individual is not legally present, then I do not consider it an appalling position to deny that person benefits granted to citizens and other documented guests. I find it particularly absurd that some on one side of the issue are labeling people on the other as "racist." Do laws mean nothing?

This goes to both sides. Do something and settle the issue.

I would have to agree with this. We are dealing in realms where there is no perfect solutions to multiple problems, things get messy.

Jan Brewer is stupid, I hate being associated with such a bigot

As a fellow Arizonan, I do not support this. The ironic thing is this state would be hindered if there were no illegal immigrants in more ways than one would think.

Yeah no. As much as I'd like to there are areas where you're just asking to get killed.

Ditto. A lot of people that rely on bikes around here are literally asking for it because they bike at night in DARK clothes and dont have any sort of reflectors. That reminded me of tonight because some guy was biking dangerously close outside of the shoulder and almost into my lane.

Willfully ignorant? I guess you missed my first post "Unless your job description requires you to drive, you don't need a driver's license." Not ignorant at all, and if you're in a position where you're not legally able to get a driver's license, then you probably shouldn't be finding a job that requires you to drive.
It has more to do with work shifts.
Most buses here don't even start their routes until 6 am. Walmart has shifts that START at 5 am.

The most friendly place I've seen towards bikes so far is portland, they actually have streets designated as bike fast lanes where stop signs don't apply to them. And despite this everyone I know who uses one has been hit by a car at least once.

thus it is Arizona's fault for sharing a border with an economically poorer country and for not updating it's public services infrastructure to handle the dozens of thousands of undocumented and illegal workers. shame on us.

please tell me specifically what is racist about jan brewer's actions today.

Yup. When my car broke down I had to change my shifts from 3am to like 6:40am because buses don't start their route till 6am. What a pain.

Or people don't need to bullshit me on how decent the public transportation system is as if it's a viable option. How about that huh?

Just gonna throw it out there that my siblings and I took the Orbit system in Tempe every day (free and 15 minutes between buses) to go to Arizona State and we were rarely late. I can't speak for the Valley Metro buses or light rail though--they could be much worse.

No, no, just... NO. The addition to the economy from people who immigrated illegally at minimum balances out the tax burdens. And don't give me that we pay for their public school shit, those kids never made a choice to cross the border.

These people you describe are fucking idiots.

I live in Minneapolis (a city that is also not on the top 25 public transportation list) and people bike to work here all the time or catch on of the numerous buses available.

If we're talking about a rural community, a bike or motorized bike is a solid option. Better than not having a job.

Or people don't need to bullshit me on how decent the public transportation system is as if it's a viable option. How about that huh?

It gets you from one place to another and on time depending on how well you plan ahead. That is decent enough as a viable option.

You live outside of this option, you shouldn't be living there.

Those aren't available everywhere unfortunately. We have some called Ovalaters (or something odd like that) and they're nice to catch when you have no other option.

he didn't bullshit you, he said it was an option. because you don't think it's a good option is irrelevant. the option exists. you also don't live here so i am not sure how you are the one to judge the relative quality of the public transit system.

but by all means, google your answers and rely on webpages you're barely read to support your opinion.

Your logic is falling apart before our very eyes.

So you both are basically saying you know public trans is shit and someone would be better off with a car for reliable transportation to work. Thanks.

Of course a car is the most reliable form of transportation. They're saying there are other options, but these options don't support your argument so you're acting like nothing is good enough.

no. i think our public transit system is adequate for the (legal) population of inhabitants for the valley. i personally have used and know others who use/used the bus system to great success. they've managed to hold jobs, go to school, and even be productive members of society.

could it be better? of course, most cities could (as the list you posted dictates, even the bottom half of the top-rated cities rate fairly low on their scale).

again, you're the one here who thinks the system is inadequate without actually living here or even using it.

It's not good enough if you want to get to work on time. If it's shit, it's shit. If a car is vastly more reliable that's the point I'm making here. These people can't just up and move where ever.

One of them is saying it's decent enough, when in fact we know it's not. That's Devo's argument (from what I can tell anyways).

Yes, that's true. I wish I could remember how often Valley Metro buses ran. I hardly ever used them since the Orbit was free and generally could get me where I needed to go alright.

A car would be less reliable than public transportation imo.

Here in NJ my commute into the city takes about 45 minutes on a bus which benfits from bus lanes vs having to drive in .

Not only that but while the bus costs $9 round trip and can be as low as $8 with a 10 trip pass and even less with a monthly bus pass.

Driving in costs $12 cash or $9.50 e-z pass plus cost of gas and depending on where you work you might have to pay to park.

When I'm in jersey at work it costs me about $2 to take the light rail each way

Hi, we're talking about Arizona.

Didn't say that at all. I said it works, but don't expect them to have light rail system in BFE if you need it to get to work. And again, just because you choose to live in the middle of nowhere instead of someplace that allows you to get to work doesn't mean a DL is required to do or get a job. The whole point of this argument from the beginning.

Quite the opposite in Arizona, which is what we're talking about :p

Oh, so I guess I don't have to pay income tax either then because the simple addition of myself to the economy is enough to balance what I take from services. Shit, that applies to everyone. No more income tax.

And ? Are there only jobs in Arizona ?

Can criminal's only live in Arizona ?

How do you we know it's not good enough?

Plenty of people across the country use public transportation or bikes to get to work every day.

Once again Arizona is not the only place for Criminal's to find work or for them to live.

If your a criminal why don't you head to a state that wants you , like CA or Chicago
