Arkham Knight PC patch out. 626mb (9/3/15) [Patch 1]

New nVidia optimizer update just came out. Here's what it recommends for my 970:

I actually had fired up the game with everything turned up to max minus the smoke. That's the only way I could keep it under the memory limit on this thing.

haha I just checked and it said the same thing for my 970. Fuck this game. Uninstalled, I'm done.

Yeah, I don't understand why the low textures look so ugly. Like I get it's supposed to be low, but it's either a blurry mess or the pristine normal textures. Nothing in the middle.

Because they were lazy and just compressed Normal textures by a factor of 0.8 or probably even more going by how ugly it looks.

Welp never mind...Couple more months before I even touch it is then.

Did you guys expect Nvidia to push GeForce Optimization settings between when the patch was released less than an hour ago and now?

You're in for a treat. I trudged through with the gimped version and I still enjoyed myself.
I have no doubt, enjoyed all Arkhams so far, even though I'm typically not into the whole superhero thing.

In any case, really a shame this release was so messed up on the PC, nothing more frustrating than not being able to properly enjoy an anticipated game due to stuff well out of your hands. Hope further fixes follow soon, this is an ugly stain on WB's reputation.

Wait, what? Trilinear texture filtering? Is that all the game supports? Does forcing 16x AF in control panel work?

Outsourcing the PC version was clearly a mistake. Here's to hoping the next patch fixes most of those problems.

I still have my ps4 version installed without having even started it. That's not the only game either.
I'm a collector at this point.

Upside, inside out he's livin la vida loca, He'll push and pull you down, livin la vida loca
My machine is laptop with:
- i7 3720QM at 3.4GHz
- FirePro M6000 at 7770 (desktop) clocks running latest Catalyst beta
- 16GB RAM
- The game is running from a fucking slow HDD instead of the SSD (not enough space to put it there :( )
- Settings are textures on low, everything else normal, AA on, GameWorks stuff off.

Takes a while to start now, but honestly it is working noticeably better to me, Batmonile seems to drop to 28fps at worst on my end and rarely at that, when it used to drop frequently to ~26fps before this patch (and on W8.1 it used to drop to ~23fps for that cinematic experience). Everything else it seems to hover around 40fps and never below 35, which is great since I had dips to below 30 with everything on low prepatch.
Also, intro logos are skippable!
MEGATON

[EDIT]
Forgot to mention (in case it isn't obvious given the GPU) that I'm running the game at 1360x768, not 1920x1080. I'll probably try it later but I'm pretty sure it'll choke :(
[/EDIT]

Can anyone with a 2GB GPU check if it uses over that amount on Normal textures? I am assuming OP's game was using 2.7GB at Normal due to him having 6GB of it available.
Yes it does!
Only Low seems to fit under 2GB, and High demands over 3.5GB of VRAM.

This was not the optimization settings I had say last week. So yes I expected they did and Nvidia along with WB can blow me.

I mean, in their defence Low does seem to run without stuttering now but it would've been nice if they could've gotten Normal down to 2GB.

Cross post from the PC performance thread. I'd test it out more but I already beat it on PS4 and just want to keep playing Metal Gear. I'd wait for some more thorough tests from others, might just be something on my PC being shitty.

Well initial impressions is that it's better but still pretty dogshit (for me at least). The game takes a full minute or more to start and still doesn't properly close when I quit, have to kill via task manager. With all NVIDIA stuff off but all the other settings turned up I dip down to as low as 33fps in the batmobile, which is better than the 15 before. Gliding around the city, again is much better. With the framerate capped to 90 and vsync off I get as high as 80fps and as low as mid 40's flying around. It also is seemingly pushing my RAM and CPU to near max, while only pushing my GPU to about 45% power.

I've got a 980ti, 17-2600k @ 4.4, 8GB RAM, and Windows 10.

Very curious to see how this patch is for others. It's absolutely made things better, but it's still fairly brutal to play.
Is this a cpu heavy game? Would a 5820k benefit a lot?

So if i have a 2gb 770 can i even use normal textures or is it a clusterfuck? Or do they force you to use low? This shit is fucking stupid.

Another 970 guy here:

All settings up full, 1080p, no interactive fog/smoke though. Smooth 60fps up until I first go to the police station. Doesn't stutter at all and keeps a smooth 60fps even in the batmobile. I did however have lip sync issues during the first meeting with
poison ivy
.

The vram usage really does need looked at. 3.8GB is ridiculous.

Edit: To clarify, I stopped playing once I got to the police station.

This seems happen when pausing the game during a cut scene.

I have a 2GB 750 Ti which is obviously a worse card but I usually get 1080/30 at PS4 equivalent settings. Normal textures for me turn this into a stutterfest with textures that never pop in to boot.

It will let you play with higher settings. Normal is 2.7 GB. I'm having low res texture problems still, but I still had the BMT ini loaded. Trying to get a good test.

Good.

Will wait for additional patches though.

Same. I'm too deep in Phantom Pain to care. I honestly forget I even bought this game sometimes... with no hype left, may as well wait until it's not a piece of shit before playing it. Hopefully it'll be done by October, to match up with the game's setting.

Game wouldn't boot anymore.
Instant crash.
Verified cache and got it running.
Awful looking textures.
Poor performance.
White screen.
Loud screech noise.
Game crashed.
Killed my first born son.

Great patch, boys.

Just had a quick fly and drive around, and performance is definitely better. I didn't see a single one of the ridiculous 1-5 second hitches that plagued my first playthrough, not even in the Batmobile. Game still warns me against using anything but Low textures, though, because I only have a 2GB 670. I guess there's no getting around that. I'm just updating my drivers now (the game actually detected that they were out of date when I booted it up), and I'll see what happens with Medium textures when I'm done because Low looks terrible.

Ok So I patched it and had problems, but that's because I downloaded an ini file GUI and the patch didn't over ride it's changes. I deleted my setting in the config folder and under user documents. Did a verification through Steam and it downloaded everything.

The only thing I know for sure is that my 2GB 7870XT cannot do normal textures without becoming a stuttering mess. At least in the cutscene after the Diner.

Takes a while to load. How long did you leave it? Took me about a minute, it's weird.

same here. i just let it run for about 10 minutes but it still says not responding.

cool patch.

Somebody on the Steam forum mentioned deleting the file GFXSettings.BatmanArkhamKnight in the Arkham Knight folder. Game finally launched for me. Game is running a bit better, still a bit of stuttering when I'm exploring Gotham.

Yeah, normal textures on a 2GB card ain't happening :( it's annoying cus TW3 had no issues on the highest texture settings.

I'm giving up on it until either it gets a patch addressing VRAM usage, or I get a new card. :p

Managed to get the game to finally run. Flew around for a bit and it was at 60 most of the time, dropping to 40s occasionally. This was with all the NVIDIA stuff on and everything else high, so it definitely runs a lot better.

Probably too much to hope for but would be cool to get it to run at a consistent 60 after Patch 2, but I guess worst case scenario I'll just turn a few options to medium.

PSA to whoever edited the config files over the past couple months:

Go to the steam folder the game is installed in, BMGame > Config (then delete BmEngine.ini and BmSystemSettings.ini)

credit to Steam forum members

I was stuttering with tons of textures not loading in or the game would just crash. After deleting the two files, I get 30-50fps on Normal with my GTX 670. The biggest thing for me is that ALL THE TEXTURES ARE LOADED IN NOW.

Yeah, if I was to buy a card today it would be the 8GB 390.

This was my issue. I deleted the entire config folder.

It's running magnificently for me now.

4790K
GTX 970 G1
16GB RAM

When I first fired it up, I noticed the hitches were gone; but rather than running 60-40FPS in general with dips into the 20s when flying/driving like before, I was getting a more consistent 30FPS at all times with no dips, which was still pretty shitty. A quick trip to the video settings menu though and I found the game had somehow set my resolution to 4K (Not sure if the patch did that or maybe an nVidia Experience sync did it recently perhaps, perhaps?). Changed it back to 1080p and set everything to max including the nVidia effects, and it runs beautifully now; pretty much 60FPS at all times, even driving in the Batmobile. The smoke physics only manage to drop the framerate slightly. Pretty happy with the results on my rig atm; but it sucks that results seem inconsistent for other people though.

This seems to be the exact same patch that they accidentally left open yesterday (cloned again from patch2rc3 branch). From what little I tested it, it seemed to run fine here. Aside from some weird vram usage, but apparently that seems to be Afterburner not fully understanding WDDM 2.0 or something.

Awesome, this was my issue. Thanks for sharing. I'm getting Sexy(60) fps with my 780ti. I turned off dat damn film grain filter once I got the chance lol

Well I ran the game for the first time ever. It's been sitting in my steam library since launch, even after my GMG refund, and I never bothered to even try and run it after I heard of the issues.

Set everything to max on my rig:
i5-4670k
16 GB Ram
GTX 970 stock

With everything at max, the PC performance test gives me ~45 fps average. But I think the Nvidia smoke stuff is the biggest hit.

Everything on except the Nvidia smoke gives me 58-59 fps average. However, there is still some noticeable microstutter.
The Vram usage is also messed up. 4100 MB with everything maxed and 3800 with the Nvidia smoke off.

Guess this will sit in my library for a few more months before I start the game...

its fucking bullshit you got a refund while people like me chose to keep the game with gmg and are getting fucked. Time to complain.

I spoke too soon about the hitches being gone. They're much better, but they're still there. Even a solid 30 with the textures at Normal seems pretty much out of the question for a 2GB card, and the game looks pretty bad with them on Low, so that's great. They're getting there, I suppose.

I think you can still get a refund if you submit a ticket. I asked for my refund near the end of July and I got it. I refuse to support shitty ports like these, especially when there is no incentive to even keep the game. May as well refund it because you can't even play the fucking thing. Even now people are reporting crashes and multiple issues. Even though the performance may have improved, I don't think the game is there yet. I'll wait.

Runs waaaaay smoother on my system now. I've already finished the game with it locked to 30FPS but now it's 60FPS ~90% of the time.

i7 2600k, 8GB RAM & GTX 970. Installed on a mechanical HDD.

This fucking patch is 100% plus better than the base game.
I am using an
i5 2400
7870XT 2GB
8GB DDR3

I'm using these settings.

lMn9Wp6.jpg

I am getting a near flawless 30fps. This is a huge improvement.

Other things improved are low res textures on vehicles. I haven't gotten to power boxes or gel walls, but thugs and cars look good so far.

Using MSI AB/RTSS to lock at 30fps

I used to get hitches between game play and cut scenes...those are gone.

Rain textures are here to stay.

No crashes. I crashed once before removing the ini configs from pre patch. Since then nothing. I just got past the Poison Ivy cut scene and had no drops.

People asking whether it is now available to buy: Why not just buy a steam key from elsewhere, it'll be cheaper and you can get it today.

Yeah. Unfortunately my 2GB card stuttered horribly in the first penguin cut scene immediately after the diner opening. I could try normal again, but in normal gameplay I don't think I would notice. Chugging cut scenes ruin immersion.

Yup. I bought a Steam Key for $20....worth it.

GTX 980 Ti
16GB DDR3-1600 RAM
2560 x 1440 resolution

Everything on max settings, including all nVidia effects turned on. Set Max FPS to 90, as I have a 144hz G-Sync monitor.

It definitely runs much better. It stutters while gliding or in the Batmobile down to as low as the 50s, but never really goes below that. It feels much smoother overall and I'm sure G-sync helps with that a lot. I've yet to see a low resolution texture during my few minutes of gliding and driving.

With a few more tweaks, I'm sure I could have it run even better.
