Oh wow, they just made Laurel even more obsolete. Now that Tommy is dead she literally has no reason for existing. And how many love interests is Oliver gonna get, he had five in the first season alone.

Isn't Green Arrow like the biggest playboy in DC universe?

And lol at Laurel. But honestly... she has no chemistry with Ammell. Even Huntress, despite her weak acting, had plenty of chemistry. At this point Olie has more sexual chemistry even with his mother and sister than with Laurel :D

am thoroughly confused now.

i was kinda hoping Katie would go back to blonde like she was on Supernatural for the Black Canary thing. i guess they're going for the Drake version so they don't have to worry about the Canary Cry. but i always figured Laurel would just go to Felicity and have her make some gadget that could amplify her voice.

oh well Caity's super hot too and going by google images she wears a leather jacket well.

Welp! What's the point of having Laurel then? Her character is barely there and she's a bit annoying/boring. I was hoping her turning into Black Canary would redeemed her but now?

My guess: Since Black Canary is a legacy character, they'll have Dinah Drake in the role for a season to two, then something happens and she drops the mantle to Laurel.

The amount of incest in this thread is too damn high!

Laurel becoming Black Canary always seemed like a dumb idea, at least in my mind. She's a lawyer. I think her being able to somewhat protect herself because of her father's insistence that she be able to fight back was enough of a nod to the character. Her turning into a full blown costumed hero just doesn't jive with me. Same with Thea. She's 90lbs, soaking wet. There is just nothing in her character that allows me to believe she'd make that kind of leap, to be jumping on rooftops and taking down bad guys.

I also like that they're avoiding superpowers. One of the reasons I was very hesitant to watch this show to begin with is being scared it would basically be the Green Arrow they did in Smallville. Arrow is cheesy, but it's not Smallville cheesy. And I'd like them to keep it that way. Arrow is obviously channeling a lot of The Dark Knight, so avoiding superpowers makes sense within the world.

..........

........

........so what the fuck is Laurel for?

By the way, this plays so well into my theory that the writers and showrunners hate Katie Cassidy for some reason.

edit: On the upside, this actress is ridiculously hot, so there's that. Here's hoping she's not the female Amell.

Another pair of long legs to stare at?

Maybe they'll get rid of Laurel, and then the Huntress, and then Slurry and pretty much everyone (not including island people) except for Ollie, Diggle, and Felicity.

Comments like this, man... I just do not get it. How can anyone say Lauren is obsolete when she is a central part of what makes Ollie Ollie.... damn it. Feel free to hate on her, but she is not going anywhere.

It is like wondering why Juliet is in Romeo and Juliet, lol.

*mind blown*
Sorry, is this show not about unlikely transitions from lazy assholes into demigods like what Ollie did? If we give either Thea or Lauren a few seasons (and nothing indicates that the creatores of the show do not think long-term), they can easily get to that point.

The opposite for me. Lauren and Ollie always had an insane amount of chemistry, and Huntress was a joke :P

Can they? The big point of this show is that Olie went through 5 years of hell to get to this level. Having his side kick reach anywhere near the same level with few years of comfort of the city would cheapen his sacrifice.

Not the same level, no. But with dedication, they can become adequate fighters. Where they go from there is anyone's guess - but we shall see that in a few years :D

She has a bit of a long face for BC, no?

Wha?

This is an action show where the female lead's part was essentially recast. I mean, unless this girl was Laurel's sister and she dies at the end of the season and Laurel takes over or something. But it doesn't really sound like it from the article. Guest star with hopes of turning her into a series regular. Not only is this new girl taking over where Laurel was supposed to end up on the action side of things in an action show, she's also going to be another love interest.

It was already looking like Laurel was being marginalized from the show with much more focus on Felicity and Roy and then they go ahead and do this. If they don't bring her into the action side of things, she'll stay useless with even less screen time. These writers couldn't make a normal lawyer character interesting to save their lives. There's not even a love triangle anymore. At the way things were heading, I was expecting them to kill her off last season even without this recasting business.

I'm pretty glad at this turn of events though. They can get rid of Laurel now and Katie Cassidy can try to get cast in a show that actually uses her and doesn't write her like hot garbage.
Unless she lands on another CW show... :o
I'm with whoever said her exit is the mid-season finale. Either she bites it or she leaves like Shiva did and they explain it away like the Parks and Rec writers did when Mark left. "Oh, he's just gone for a while. We totally have big plans for his character and he'll be back eventually." lol

Yeah. I welcome a new Black Canary, don't mind if Laurel isn't it, cause frankly...

LAUREL SUCKS.

Tommy was the best :(

And he totally has sexual chemistry with his sister. Paging Wozzly.

So I'm guessing they won't go with fishnets for the costume, but, uh... this girl could totally pull them off.

OH LAWD. GOTDAMN.

Move over Willa. Move over Huntress.

I got a new lady love.

GOTDAMN.

I'm at work, I'm not shutting these pictures off.

Cause goddamn.

I'm actually excited for a legit Black Canary. Not that I have any attachment to the character, but I like the idea of a legit female vigilante badass.

Edited cause NSFW: http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lluj3e2f8V1qa3s33o1_500.jpg

Hnnnnnnnnnng. She is fantastic.

Amazing casting, Arrow guys.

Now just make sure she's able to move her forehead. You can't fuck that up, right?

Wait, another love interest for Oliver? God dammit Felicity is right there.

And what does this mean for Laurel? They already don't know what to do with her. Now what?

Laurel could disappear from Season 2 entirely and know one would ever know she's missing. That's how bad her character is. They've done more with Thea Slurs and Laurel's partner at the law firm.

She has a bit of a long face for BC, no? She'll sure fill those fishnets nicely, tho...

Edit: Rokam, stop having terrible ideas, that's what Wozzly is for.

She has a lovely face.

And I can't stop thinking about her in fishnets.

Wait, another love interest for Oliver? God dammit Felicity is right there.

And what does this mean for Laurel? They already don't know what to do with her. Now what?

She's being replaced by someone who has more personality and chemistry and charm and amazing assets.

Felicity and Ollie can remain good friends if Black Canary turns out to be a great character and the actress rises above the material.

I will shit on your grave.

But hey, they could pull a Bruce Wayne and have Laurel disappear for seven seasons after Tommy's death and come back as... useful.

Next up, replace Thea with Cheshire.

Actually, the other way this could work is making new Dinah a lost member of the Lance family. That works out perfectly. Then its just the Smallville Jimmy Olsen retcon again.

Guys.... Guys....
:o

edit: By the way, I saw this a while ago and was wondering who it would be. I guess this must be her.

Arrow is currently casting for a new major recurring character/possible series regular for Season 2. Here name is Lisa and is described as a mysterious woman with a tragic past. She will wreak havoc on Oliver's heart and is equal to Oliver in every way.

Tragic past prolly means she's Laurel's not-so-dead sister and she went through her own five year hell, right?

Hmmmmmmmmm

What a twist.

I hope they don't have it so that this Black Canary turns out to be baller as fuck, only to kill her off and have Laurel take up the mantle.

This is all your fault, Nottheguy.

"Caity Lotz has, in fact, been tapped for a recurring role on Arrow's second season, but she won't be playing Dinah Drake, TVGuide.com can exclusively reveal.

"There's been a bit of misinformation printed out there and what I would say is, yes, Caity Lotz is joining the show in a recurring role and we're really excited," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg tells us. "She's a tremendously talented actress. The character she's playing is really the beginning of the story of the Black Canary."

The fact that Lotz's character, whose name Kreisberg declined to reveal, has a connection to the Black Canary has worried fans who believed that Katie Cassidy's Laurel Lance would fill that role, as the comics dictate. But Kreisberg wants to set the record straight. "The character that Caity is portraying is the beginning of the Black Canary story and we're really excited for the fans to go on the journey with us," he says. "So much of our show is about defying expectations, meeting expectations and exceeding expectations, and we really want our fans to experience the show by watching it and enjoying it and enjoying all the twists and turns and surprises the way we intend."

Kreisberg likens the Black Canary's journey to other characters that the show has already introduced with a twist. "Everything about our show is about origins and evolution," he says. "When we met Deathstroke, everyone automatically assumed it was Slade Wilson [Manu Bennett] in the mask, but then we revealed we met Slade Wilson later. With Tommy [Colin Donnell], we thought that that was Merlyn, but Tommy was really the beginning of the Merlyn story because we saw how it evolved to John Barrowman and beyond. Oliver [Stephen Amell] himself, when we first meet him, he's not the Green Arrow yet. The series itself is an evolution of this character."

Arrow's second season to feature two villains

As for what this means for Laurel, Kreisberg says, "Everyone knows that Laurel Lance is the Black Canary. That's the way it is in the comic books, but how we get from A to B is the story of our show. In the same way that Oliver, when we meet him, is the vigilante, but this season he's going to becoming the Arrow, that's the step of his journey to eventually becoming the Green Arrow. Laurel Lance right now is a lawyer with a lot of heart and a lot of humanity and courage. But it takes more than that to put on the mask and go out and fight crime. Our series is the evolution of that. People will see how Caity Lotz fits into Laurel's journey along the way. For us, it's very emotional and surprising and exciting. I would say to everybody, we haven't let you down so far. Keep going on this ride with us."

I also learned something new today: apparently there are a bunch of Laurel fans. The fuck!?

What? The actor transcends the roles, and she was awesome for her brief Rubyness in Supernatural. :P

And in exchange, I understand if you like Thea for solely on the principle that she was awesome in OC S4. But only for that.

I didn't watch OC Season 4.

She's awesome cause she's an uppity brat and is hot and I kinda find her disgust sexy.

The only problem I have with Katie Cassidy is her forehead. The writers are not doing her any favours.

They do a great job with casting though. While Glau is television poison... she's pretty good.

So we got hot/baller Black Canary and uh, Isabel Rochev, any other casting news?
