Attempt to sacrifice likeable character in attempt to salvage loathed one is bound to backfire..badly.

Except that that is not what is going to happen. They do not kill Sarah in order to make Laurel Black Canary (if they do it at all), but IF Sarah were to die (and frankly, too many characters having plot armor is going to get old with one more CW show, just like Vampire Diaries/Supernatural), that would completely turn around Laurel AND make perfect sense to make her start on a new path. The "cause-reaction" chain is messed up with us peaking behind the scenes, that is not even hinted in the show.

We're not threatened by a woman who defies the male lead, we're insulted by the writing and acting that is being done. She seems childish whenever she picks up the bottle and pills.
Indeed. We have enough female characters that are able to defy Ollie. Sarah, Felicity, Moira can all handle themselves versus Ollie on both physical and mental level without coming off as annoying. They manage to have strong backstories, strong mental agility and convincing acting backing them up. And look at those actresses. Katie Cassidy is an actual 'name', Emily Beth Rickards and Caity Lotz in a lesser degree are proving themselves with Arrow as a first breakout role. They seem like they want to be there more. The combination of strong characters and a happy actress gives a terrific combination. And honestly, we have so many female characters that can challenge the male lead. This show has so many awesome female characters that Laurel is an eyesore.

A full minute long preview of at least the next episode courtesy of the Arrow Facebook page. This three week wait is going to suck.

I'm probably the only one that's ok with Laurel's downward spiral, I mean it's completely justified and anyone could hit rock bottom like she has with all the shit that has happened to her in the last 6 years (series timeline of course)

What did bother me was her lashing out at Sarah yesterday after their reunion, she has to take into account that Sarah also went through some really fucked up shit during her disappearence. Laurel's reaction yesterday screamed of jealously and hatred, and unlike what she said during the beginning of the series where she stated that she was over Sarah's betrayal, what she demonstrated yesterday was that she really hasn't gotten over it.

I don't know where the writers are taking Laurel, but yesterday's little tirade against Sarah was a serious step-back in terms of progressing her character.

I don't think the comments about Katie's acting being bad are warranted or accurate. The character is undeniably written in such a manner as to not be sympathetic. The fact that Laurel has drawn the ire of so many people seems to serve as enough evidence to me that Katie is playing the role effectively.

I can't see a way that any other actress could be put in the role of Laurel with the same lines and same plot and be liked more than Katie. It happens all the time in TV where the qualities of a well played character get pushed on the actor. The longer and more iconic the character, the stronger those qualities are intertwined with the actor.

Then it's likely that the writers just suck at writing Laurel well.

Again: she is not written badly. She is a well written character. She is written to be someone going to rock bottom. And she is about to reach it. No two ways around it. I know, that can be shocking in "training half-naked" and "delivering perfect speeches and training with superhuman"-land, but it is what it is.

Sara's black canary costume is the only costume on the show that disguises her identity well. When she has the mask and wig on she looks like a completely different person to me.

I remember being shocked when they shows what she really looked like. Well done.

Maybe seeing that Canary wears a wig on her head to mask her identity, will eventually lead to Oliver wearing a wig (read: fake goatee/stache/beard) on his face to help conceal his a little better.

That would make nearly every element of his.. disguise... something that he is given by another person. Shado gave him the hood, Barry gave him the mask, and (in your proposed scenario) Sara will have given him the idea of the facial hair.

Agreed, people seem to be equating happy/peppy/badass = awesome acting and writing, sad/depressed/angry/frustrated = awful writing and acting. I don't think Laurel is written badly at all, her antics started to get annoying at the start of season 2, but after this latest episode I have I'm growing to like the character, she's consistently dealt a shit hand and it's refreshing to see her lash out and spiral downward. If she didn't, THAT would be horrible writing. After she admits her mistakes leading up to Tommy's death and we see her go through various stages of "life sucks," I'm a little sympathetic.

I guess you can dislike the character, but I don't know how you can knock the writing or the acting. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I just don't see where this complete "hatred," or vitriol comes from.

As much as I love Sarah, she had it coming; that was probably one of my favorite Laurel scenes. Spew that fire!

I think it's entirely justified tbh; Sara's messy and irresponsible right up to moment where she's forced to deal with the consequences of her shitty choices via the events surrounding Lian Yu. Yeah, she's been through some ish since then, but that doesn't erase the emotional and psychological fallout of her betrayal from six years ago. Moreover, Laurel's dealing with the grief from it all over again for the third time.

Sara needs to be clocked some more, just like how Ollie had to deal with all of the shit he left behind upon his return home.

Then we just need Officer Lance/Felicity/Diggle/The News to name him The Green Arrow, and his collective disguise is complete.

I'm one of the people who also agrees that Katie Cassidy is looking horrible right now, but a friend pointed me to this recent interview of her. She is really looking a lot better now, so we should see the improvement in time for the end of season 2.

She does looks much better there. Put a little extra weight back on.
Funny that she is interviewing next to her "Skin Care Specialist" since most people's issues were with what happened to her face.

but her hands look SCARY in these pics, and that interview

Matt's Inside Line on TVLine had a couple new tidbits for Arrow coming up, plus something about the music at the end of last night's for those wondering.

Arrow is on fire! In TVLine’s January 9 interview, Stephen Amell teased an Oliver/Laurel encounter unlike one we’ve ever seen before on the show. Any idea which scene he was referring to, or if it has even aired yet? –Joanne
The aforementioned “encounter unlike one that we’ve ever seen” has not yet aired.

Do you have any scoop on Arrow? –Ashley
The “Birds of Prey” episode airing March 26 finds The Huntress “consumed by this vengeance that she has for her father,” says EP Andrew Kreisberg, and as such she is now all but rid of her Helena identity and looking “very haggard.” When she goes to do in Daddy dearest once and for all, “Laurel gets caught in the crossfire,” prompting Canary to fly to the rescue. “It’s a fun episode in that you get a lot of Laurel with the Canary, not realizing that it’s Sara,” says Kreisberg. “It’s really an episode about Sara realizing where she’s at in her evolution as a hero.”

What is the name of the song played at the end of this week’s Arrow? –Mary Lou
That was “Silhouette” by Active Child (feat. Ellie Goulding).

Would be cool if Nyssa was the one to train Laurel.

Deathstroke would just get tired of her shit on like day 2 and just kill her.
