Art Director at Guerilla Games responds to Aloy face controversy

I have to just assume most of the women some of these commentors see are from porn so their perspective of what a female looks like is warped. She looks fine in all the games.

I have my issues with Horizon and specially Aloy (in that she is very boring and unlikeable). But the whole controversy about her face is so dumb.
She looks fine in both games, people are just looking for something to be outraged about. It's made obvious by the fact 99% of the people complaining just post the same couple of cherry picked pictures from that one pre release trailer (which from what I recall isn't even in the actual game) instead of the thousands of screenshots from the actual game that you can find online

Sorry but her cheeks are bigger. Look at the length from the edge of her lip to the edge of her right cheek. Its definitely wider on the right pic.

This is the person in charge of determining Aloy's facial features

Neither the question asked or his answer address why Aloy's face in FW looks like a fat transgendered man with a squared jaw, compared to the first game.

More people need to do what you do. Instead they double down, again and again and again. The guys who do that make guys like yourself look worse than what you actually are.

That was a large part of my point in the other thread.
Well, I appreciate the backhanded compliment… I think? Lol

FWIW I think you're a good poster that provides substance. One day when we move past this culture war era we'll bond talking about good ass games.

If you're not a plastic surgeon in LA, you're in the wrong business.

At least, you should be working for RuPaul.

There's literally nothing wrong with her face. People that go on about this actually harm the other real issues the industry has in this area.

Totally..

She also went from being completely flat-chested (Google Hannah Hoekstra topless) to a pair of amazing looking, fully modeled and textured boobs.

Just put on a mask that covers 80 % of her head and face and that should fix it, got it.

I mean you can pretend that the difference isn't there and attempt to gaslight people all you want, but it's night and day.
I just think you are being a tad hyperbolic. "Fat transgendered man" come on. She looks like a woman, attractive even. People just keep posting the same cherry-picked shot from a trailer that is not even in the final game. We can debate millimeters and the ideal dimensions of the female face, but I feel like the vast majority of posts in threads like this are in bad faith.

No worries it's not backhanded, I'm saying you're better than the ones who are of bad faith.

Same to you and I am hoping we move past this culture war some day also. It's a shame this is going to take years to get back to just talking about video games again. I think we will all be better off for it though, especially this forum.

There's no hair placed on top there:

This is how it looks in the game once completed.

Can't be done as easily, not just because of different angle and lighting but because a perfect match is impossible due to Guerrilla correcting Hoekstra distincitve asymmetry, as they did originally with Zero Dawn:

Thanks. It's subtle but I think I can grasp what the differences are, with the eyes, nose, cheeks and chin. That symmetry correction is likely playing a role in it.

You guys are nuts. New version looks way better. The shine of the OG model highlights the curves of her face, which make her look thinner. The new version has a better lighting model with subsurface scattering (or some fakery of it), so you can see the layers of her skin better. Her skin looks alive and full of blood in the new version. The old version looks like its covered in spray on tan and baby oil.

I think if you measured them they are the same. The cheek line isnt as defined in the newer version making it look like a larger plainer area and therefore bigger. And when you look at a couple of the other photos on here, the edge shadowing/lighting makes her face look wider, even though it scientifically very much likely isnt. Its like the more recent face looks blander and therefore larger/fatter.

That doesn't explain why sylens look exactly like the real life actor tho (rip).

Wasn't the scanning tech the same they used for aloy? you immeditely recognise him, but not hanna when you look at aloy in the background.

It still smell fishy to me or maybe it's just the damn haircut that fucks everything up.

These braindead side by sides don't take into account that the aperature of a lens in-game and in real life drastically changes how someone looks.

Most if not all of the males are intact in this game.

And this is why you slap that Tenakth armor on the bitch:

They, obviously, are the same.

So it comes down to lighting then.

Oh, quick, obscure her left boob with some hair, can't have the male gaze too much on that side bag!

I went a bit too low in the images and now I know Aloy's model has no boobs in real and the bish can piss standing up 😫 MY EYES!!!!

Kinda hard to measure when her hair is infornt of her jawline in the remaster picture. The distance from the edge of her lips to her ear look about the same to me.

It could be the change in lighting. In the left Pic, there is a streak of light going from her side burn to the mid cheek that give the impression of definition (make her face seem a bit skinner) compared to the left where you don't have that lighting and so it looks chubby in comparison.

This actually shows the problems with HFW design - left one has "oval" shape (same as actress) which is percieved as "right one" and pretty while right one was made more squarish and if you put oval inside it will look that there extra "fat" over perfect oval so is a perception.

Hair hides imperfection. The right one looks like girl has nearly perfect face shape, and left one clearly shows that's not the case.
It's a lot more than just that.

I can clearly see they spread her blush up to her ears on the side of that giant globe of a face, so the head looks way too big now. Just fix the makeup and put it on the cheeks(not going all the way to her ears) and she will look like Aloy in HZD(who has way less makeup or so it appears).

The problem here, gentlemen, is field of view. The face should be framed by the makeup, but in this case the just slapped blush across the whole canvas.

Is that blush, rosacea, or eczema? Why did GG give her eczema in part 2? They thought it looked more realistic, but it instead looks like bad blush that makes her face look globular.

Aloy needs some Cortizone 10.

Look how much rounder they made her face!
Look how disproportionately large the focus is!
What the hell did they do to her neck?!
Those eyebrows are totally unnatural!

Unforgiveable!

Sorry, couldn't resist jumping in with a shitpost because this whole damn thing is so overblown.

Probably meant to be windburn- the amount of time she's out in the elements
