As a consumer, are you going to continue investing in MS products after everything that’s happening at the Xbox Division?

Will you?

Mucrosoft's physical discs don't contain full game data anymore so I can't buy them. I actually did buy Doom The Dark Ages but I returned it because the disc is pointless to keep.

if there's a handheld that can play my BC library I might pick it up on a sale, but otherwise no I'm done with Xbox as an ecosystem

I might dabble with GamePass every so often to try something out but I'll only buy their games on Steam or PlayStation

edit: MS as a whole is too large to avoid though really, I mean I have to use Windows for work and M365

Xbox console has a niche. There is a reason why it exists and has a fanbase. I cannot entirely replace it with something else.
I did. I sold my XSX after it had been collecting dust. I say this as someone who had been an Xbox Live subscriber since 2007.

Almost everything I need is on Steam and Playstation.

Its a niche system.

For someone that likes to play online with friends, I would prefer it over others due to gamepass and instant availability for everyone.

Of course you can do this on all systems, but its best for this purpose.

You can do that on other systems. Your friends will be making the switch soon.

I'm on Nvidia 😭
You and everybody else.

I swear, there is so much low hanging fruit out there.

Nvidia's most pro-gamer move right now, would be to work with Valve/Linux to get their drivers up to snuff on Linux. Its the biggest thing holding Linux back from mass adoption.

Microsoft usually doesn't see things until it's too late, the ROG Ally Xbox and it's custom Windows is at least a sign that they recognize that SteamOS is a threat.

I'm boycotting right now. On the state capital steps. So far it's just me.

Brought my Switch 2 to play and a giant battery. A lady was kind of enough to drop me $5.

As someone who will always own a top of the line PC, there is zero reason for me to buy an Xbox product.

My Series X is essentially an X360 emulation machine at this point, but given how far Xenia has come on PC for X360 emulation, I don't even really need the Series X for that anymore, either.

The worst mistake MS made was promising Day 1 releases of all of their "exclusive" games on both Xbox and PC. They completely devalued their console by removing exclusive games.

I have and have loved the SX, it's been a great console for me and I have GamePass. But over the years looking back to 2013 on, this has been one lie after another, Xbox's best lineup, World premiere over and over... You make me promises promises plays in the background.

Xbox has been ran into the ground. The only thing keeping them relevant is the ridiculous sums of money spent on purchasing publishers/studios.

Look at the state of their hardware business, the state of their largest IP, the state of their product greenlight process, the state of their messaging, the state of their leadership. It is nothing short of a clown show. Seriously, a gafs who's who could run the Xbox division with greater poise than Phil Spender...

To me, MS died after the xbix 360. I have 0 interest in whatever they do now. None of it is good for the consumer in the long run, nor for the industry.

Outside of wanting access to my legacy console titles( and it looks like that's gonna be a thing with the Xbox OS), I'm mostly done pumping money into their software ecosystem. I had $70 in Xbox credit sitting there for a few years not really wanting to spend it on any games, and I finally bought a Ghost Cipher controller on sale last week. That about the only thing I want from Xbox now, their controllers and being able to play my 360 games on PC..

My biggest issue with these layoffs is how much they shape Microsoft's software output into essentially being ABK, a mega publisher that coasts on the back of select massive and safe titles and does nothing else. I already didn't give a fuck about COD and now it's their "1 more thing" announcement, which kinda tells you where their mind really is at these days.

I think this is the best - and most accurate - thing said in this thread thus far. These cuts show that there won't be any creativity out of the studios Microsoft bought. It's all about the biggest producers and getting them out in as fast as possible using a paint-by-numbersAI approach.

Smaller, more niche games will fall by the wayside. New IPs and projects based on dormant ones will get axed. The cuts have spoken: If it doesn't bring in COD or TES or Forza Horizon numbers, you're screwed. Even game franchises like Halo and Gears aren't "safe" because they're competing directly with the COD behemoth within the same company.

Edit: Back on track.

I voted no because this was already my last Xbox branded console. Whatever path they do next is irrelevant to me. I haven't invested much into Xbox's digital ecosystem because it always seemed risky especially with the way they were rudderless in the XONE period. I'll buy physical but I'm not risking buying games digitally that end up getting left behind on outdated hardware.

My Game Pass sub runs through the end of the year and then I have no intentions of renewing. Sure, this has been a banner year for Game Pass, but every year won't be like this. In fact most years will be down years with middling to poor content. It's just the way of the business. Microsoft cannot afford to keep buying access to the Expeditions 33's and Blue Prince's of the world. Game Pass will turn into the same thing as Ubisoft+ for me: Something I subscribe to for a single month when a new game I want to play comes out and then cancel it after that month.

probably not, no.

XSX was my first xbox so I have very little invested in the economy. It is basically a gamepass device for my bedroom.

I have bought a few games cheap on sale, but honestly I'll likely stick to PC and Nintendo going forward as I feel more confident in their future. I've owned a playstation 1-4, so I have WAY more invested in that ecosystem, especially since I didn't have gamepass with PS.

If I see an Xbox branded controller I'd like to use on my PC, I'll just buy it, idgaf what a console warrior wrote on a gaming forum. Same with GamePass: I like it; I use it 🤷‍♂️

My son is now transitioning to PC gaming (because he's on a community e-sports team and prefers PC now, so I've already given him a solid desktop PC at home), but he has had an XSX until now and have been happy with it. He has no clue what's going on with the console warrior drama/FUD because he doesn't read forums thus it doesn't affect him in the slightest.

The smartest move would have been to see the writing on the wall back in 2013 like most of us did.

Instead you kept investing to the point where you can't get out.

Stockholm syndrome at this point.
The Series X is an amazing console, it's quiet, reliable, smart looking (I like industrial design), equals the PS5 and was cheaper to buy (bargain actually from MS using cd keys)

It has some amazing games on it imo, and GamePass is silly value for me.

Why is this hard for people to understand? Is it because there aren't many average consumers here?

Like I have family with Xbox's and they are happily playing Fortnite and Gears without a clue that anyone has been laid off, or MS are 3rd party etc. THEY JUST PLAY GAMES.

If Xbox can balance a good upgrade or unique feature with a decent price I'm interested.

It's that or buy a PS6, buy PS+ and spend £70+ per game. (I would buy at least CoD and Gran Turismo for the record!). Playstation doesn't offer value for me when GamePass exists.

Quick edit question. If I ever did get another Playstation how much older stuff is still playable that I purchased? PS3 games playable?

No, never again. Buying the Series X was a waste of money for me.

Bought it after all their acquisitions and thinking that the 360 haydays were imment again. How wrong I was... The studios they bought either don't do anything or subpar games. And now most of those are even released on Playstation...
Exactly how I feel. I love the hardware and features (esp back compatibility as I ignored last gen), but this gen their games are either sub-par or cancelled after years of waiting. If I knew I was just getting an OK Halo, Forza and Gears I would have got a PlayStation and enjoyed Stellar Blade and Astro bot too. I can wait for the ports. They don't get another penny from me ever again based off promises or trust, they have broken any confidence I had from the first two machines.

If anything, MS is putting in more effort than ever to ensure I have access to my Xbox library going forward. Taking into account that I recently got a decently capable PC, I see no reason to change my purchasing habits. Specifically around software.

In saying that, around 75% of my playtime is spent with older systems (Modded Wii U, Modded 3DS, Retro Handhelds), and I feel as if I could stop buying hardware today and I would still have access to so much content that I could never get through it all. Off topic, but a modded Wii U is seriously the ultimate Nintendo console with access to a vast Virtual Console, Wii, and Gamecube catalog. If I were in a situation where I had to go on through life with only one console, it would be the Wii U.

Despite the efforts of market overlords, I will never label myself a subhuman "consumer."

It's utterly brain-dead to reduce everything to neoliberal buzzwords like "consumer," "investing," "products," and "content."

This soulless jargon strips art, ideas, and human expression down to mere products for passive consumption, as if people are just mindless cogs in a capitalist machine.

It's a lazy, dehumanizing way to talk, parroting corporate marketing that commodifies creativity and critical thought.

Wake up and use real words: have dignity and self-respect, and call yourself a person or an individual instead of a "consumer." Call it a game, a console, a book, a film, or a song, not some sterile "content" or "product" you "invest in" or "consume" like a zombie.

Well, I'll buy a system if there's a game that I want to play... all comes down to that.
Up until now though - my stance was buy a machine, and a game worth playing will come along.

However these days, it's more like "If I wait long enough, it eventually comes to PC"
So unless Xbox or PS change their "exclusive" stance, I'm not likely buy a new console from either one of them.... which kinda sucks, because I do love new hardware.

And all MS Product? I will still use Windows for foreseeable future, and I think Surface is a good laptop too. They also make great controllers, and some decent and cheap mouse/keyboard etc. I don't see any reason not buying MS product.

And yet the "average consumer" is choosing PlayStation over Xbox by a ratio of 3:1, even in Microsoft's best markets, and with Xbox offering a cheaper alternative. 🤔

If Xbox was doing as well with the average consumer as you claim (which is just another form of "the silent majority" fallacy), they wouldn't be up the river without a paddle.

You sound like a Sony Advert pal, I didn't say Xbox is doing well, they clearly aren't.

Does that stop me enjoying GAMES?
When hasn't PS outsold Xbox?

Did PS3 outselling Xbox 360 stop people having fun?

I couldn't give a shit if Xbox lose billions.
If I get value from the product I purchased then I'm happy.

I really enjoyed the Dreamcast as well so maybe I'm a sucker for punishment....

OR I don't care about who sells more?

95% of their catalogue is the same. Xbox has gamepass. Next gen they'll have a much more open system too. I'm going to keep playing on XBOX & Steam. I have a PS5.. not sure why though

I don't mind Xbox too much. Game Pass saves me a ton of money. No reason to walk away from those savings.

Next console, though? That'll be a hard sell, but we'll see.

Depends on what the next console looks like tbh, I do enjoy gamepass but if the console is some 3do thing with different manufacturers, or a handheld I'm out.

Season 18 Episode 13 GIF by The Simpsons

3 RROD on the 360 was enough for me, they were good times, great in fact when it wasn't away being repaired in China. Moved back to PS4 having skipped the only Sony generation with the PS3 and I have an insane amount of games I'll probably never get to play.

I'm happy that the games are all coming over now though. Bought age of empires 2 this week and it's so lovely having another RTS on consoles that works pretty well.

Most likely no. I bought the Series X and despite not using it a whole lot, do think it's a good console.

But with how things are going it's a slim chance I'll have any interest with any hardware in the future.

I game on PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Primarily PC as of late, Unless I drop all other platforms and only play on my switch, then yes I'll continue to be investing in Microsoft products. I'll just continue playing the games I want on the platforms I prefer.
