I'll admit to eating some crow on Wukong and Stellar Blade. I thought these games were vaporware for a long time because they took forever to come out. I guess looking back, about 4 years is average for a game nowadays, but there were long stretches of just no communication and delays. It's one area that they can improve on next time. It does make me a lot more confident in Phantom Blade Zero.

Always have been. Western devs had a spark around the turn of the century, had an amazing decade or so and just been cruising since. The sedentary lifestyle, porn and a fast food diet rich in soy and phytoestrogens wrecked an entire culture. All the Hanks became Shiela's and lost focus of the art.

Japan are going DEI though with Capcom USA meddling, various other game translations getting censored. FFVII Remake has big DEI influence etc

There isn't really much at the moment which is genuinely new or groundbreaking. Nobody is leading the way. Of course, if you are not even close to hitting the highs of your past as an industry, then "outsiders" without your costs can easily step in and undercut you. A bigger problem with American games is that there are just so many of them, and they seem desperate to not stand out from the crowd. The same gameplay, ideas and visual styles over and over.

I keep on reading these things, but the "top 10 most played" of every platform says otherwise.

If they had a banger this year with Black Myth: Wukong, that doesn't mean they've led the video game industry. I'd say, far from it

Eastern gaming (Sony, Nintendo, Korea, China, etc.) has saved this generation from being an absolute clusterfucked FUBAR generation as far as I'm concerned.

Meanwhile, Western gaming is on life-support, catering to the non-existent "Modern Audience".

I don’t get the point OP is making. What lesson’s can Western devs learn from Black Myth: Wukong and Stellar Blade becoming financial successes? Not every Western dev is consulting Sweetbaby Inc, and there are still plenty of Western devs who are consulting Sweetbaby Inc that have been financially successful too. So I don’t really get what point is being made here, just seems like another Asian devs > western devs topic with no substance.

Yep, as we all know, all Western games are complete flops.

Spidey 2 doing 11 million as of last April. Baldur’s Gate 3 doing 10 million as of last February. Hogwarts Legacy at 24 million as of January. Jedi Survivor sales haven’t been reported, but EA has said they’re happy with the sales and a sequel is happening. Yeah, nothing but failures here.

And don't forget anything naughty dog puts out does for gangbusters.

im not surprise in next 10 years asian developers is the one that gonna step up carrying western's gaming legacy. i say japanese's legacy too.

we already see tons of game from China and Korea based on other IP inspired from established developers like from soul series, Nier, DMC, Witcher, Dragons Dogma and even something like Sims.

title like Black Myth: Sun Wukong, Crimson Desert and Inzoi is some of great example.

im glad they step up. since western devs foremost nowdays are too occupied with political agenda(while pressuring japanese devs to follow) than just giving what players want which is something that everyone did back before : genuinely making great game. nothing else.

i hope more asian devs rise up especially from south east asia and bring their flavour of gaming so more choice and competition for the players.

heck, sooner or later we might even get asia's version of GTA.

Two game releases from countries notorious for pushing garbage mobile crap into our hobby, are giving a lesson to western developers?

Ok lol

China can make the best game in the world, and I would still not buy it. Whats next, North Korean games? Obviously western games have taken a DEI shit in recent years and may never recover. Anything from China is going to be heavily influenced by the CCP, which is a bad actor. The same reason you can't trust Tencent or TikTok.
