I've never eaten a cabbage roll, to my recollection.

Or maybe I have, do people put seasoned (green onions, garlic, sesame oil) soy on them?

It's really sad that there are people like that. I know it shouldn't surprise me but it still does from time to time :/

I'm glad that it's affecting her career now. No tolerating racist assholes.

“She’s pure Pinoy, [but] not really proud cause of the mentality of the Pinoy,” Elsie wrote in a status. “That’s why we migrated to Australia.”

This self-hatred and internalized racism (as described by the photographer in the article) is spot on with a number of fellow Filipinos I've met. I'm sure it isn't exclusive to Filipinos though.

I've had a moment in time where I really questioned the Filipino culture or mentality, but ultimately learned to embrace it on some level.

It's just sad that people would rather hate their own culture (and themselves) instead of embracing it. Not embrace it like, "omg I just loooove Asian food/clothing/culture."

It's why shit like that doesn't make sense to me.

I'd love to! I played a bit of serial killer on a previous forum, even managed to win once as the killer hehe, so I'd be game for the more traditional thing with a bit of RP'ing from what I can tell.

Sounds super. I might try follow the game from time to time so I'm not a complete novice. I imagine I'll get picked off early anyway since that's how these games usually go lol

I know for the people in the northern hemisphere, the upcoming months is going to get hotter and hotter, but down here in Australia, it's going to get rather cold and you know what that means? It's Hotpot time!

This year, instead of the normal Miso based broth I usually make with vegetables, I want to try something new without relying on the packaged soup stocks from the Asian supermarkets.

Anyone here who's big on hotpot have any recommendation/recipes of good hotpot soup bases?

Does anyone follow that Love Life of an Asian Guy fellow on Facebook?

I was just reading about all his drama with East Asian vs Southeast Asians/South Asians. He's not wrong, but it feels like its typical Asian-American drama and setting everything on fire.

I feel we get even more upset with the people on our side much more than the people we are opposed to.

Not on Facebook anymore. What's the gist of it?

East Asians hate on Filipinos, the LLAG is Filipino, and anyone else who isn't East Asian. Calls out a list of Asian-American internet personalities for being racist against non-East Asians, or for being too meek. He says the most hate he gets is from East Asians.

Part of me is thinking "Oh, are you new to how Asian people get along?" Another part of me is thinking, "Is this a weird push back against criticism that I'm not aware of?" He did vaguely imply something about he says he gets crap for being hetero. Most of me thinks "Oh yeah, I remember being volatile and in my 20's. I don't have time for that anymore."

I remember seeing AsAm organizers feuding back in my day, but it was before we had forums and digital soapboxes to spout off on, so for the most part it was in the background to the upfront message. I guess nowadays its the upfront.

Even in the Philippines, the Chinese-Filipinos hate the ethnic Filipinos. The former consider the latter below them, and there is a huge wealth discrepancy.

Hollywood keeps on being Hollywood and Asians will eat it up like candy.

No matter how many white washed movies bomb, the status quo will not change which is depressing.

Nice to see another fellow Aussie Asian!

It's all good, probably just going for my usual recipe this year anyways.

Well, Asians tend to have contempt for one another and themselves too at times, so not surprised there. As HKer, I've gotten a lot crap from Taiwanese about how people from HK are rude and mean etc.

That sort of stuff will not end anytime soon. It's too tied to history for one, and as many Asian countries are still emergent economies, there will be a distinct financial gulf between haves and have nots which only serve to exacerbate and further disdain that groups have for each other. And yes, in the US there is still a large amount of this crap, some of it tied to issues which originate from where ever people immigrated from, to established immigrant communities versus newer immigrant groups.

I don't know that putting people on blast is the answer. But the way its fairly unacknowledged within the progressive Asian community is a huge problem too.

Everybody likes to generalise about everyone else in Asia and they like to bring out the negatives. Even within China there's a thing where everybody hates Shanghainese people. And then there's thing like "I hate you because you hate me" which is something that goes on a lot between mainlanders and HK and sometimes mainlanders and Taiwanese. And that's before we even add the rest of Asia into the mix! Wouldn't it be great if people just... get along and stop stereotyping everyone else!

There would have to be some tremendous shifts in attitudes and some tremendous pride swallowing to either let things go, or own up to things.

To be fair.

Are there PI dwarf actors who can pull this off? You can't just CGI The Rock to a smaller size and be on your merry way.

I mean, that sounds like a great idea.

Even though he's not PI, Deep Roy immediately came to mind, and he's shorter than Peter Dinklage who is taller than Hervé Villechaize. Peter Dinklage also has a different kind of dwarfism, so really the only thing in common is they're both short.
