The fire barrels in Kenway's fleet? Those drop randomly when you win Kenway's Fleet battles.. The ones you get in the game are only for your own ship.

I don't really get the Kenway's Fleet thing. I don't have any of the required resources to do anymore runs.

It's really just a way to generate lots of income on the side, like managing the Assassin's guild in the previous games. You get resources from sinking other ships that are guarding the various trade routes. After a while, trade routes turn yellow, orange, or red. Attack the ships on those routes to get trade goods and diamonds. Then, when routes are green and clear, send your own ships off to convert those trade goods to reales.

If you've totally run out of trade goods, just clear them all and wait a few hours. The routes will be guarded again, and you can sink more ships for more stuff to trade.

...aaaaannnnnd now I'm playing Kenway's Fleet. Thanks. This game has so much to do.

Definitely looking for good ways to scrape up some currency. I remember past games always having too much. Besides, I like to hoard it all too.

There is the AC companion app too which allows you to play it on your phone/tablet. Good thing to send out some ships while you are at work/whatever.

I saw it mentioned in a menu, but when I loaded up my Glass app nothing popped up. Will try again later.

Never used it once, wasn't ever tight on money either but resources from pirating was an issue

Resources are pretty easy to come by, you just have to "clean" all the routes before you start sending ships away on voyages.

It's an AMAZING money maker. I had everything bought super early in the game.

The game's mission structure is pretty much copy-pasted throughout the entire game and it will not get any better. In fact, it only gets worse because of how repetitive everything is.

I'm about to start sequence 8, and three things stick out as having grown old quickly:
  • Boarding enemy ships
  • Eavesdrop missions
  • Anything requiring this series' god awful "stealth" mechanics

I think once I've got enough gems to unlock the last few docks in the fleet minigame, I'm just going to give up on boarding entirely. It's probably faster to just blow up twice as many ships. Certainly it would be more fun.

The missions are once again focused on AC's 'stealth mechanics', which often feel arbitrary and stupid. Sometimes being discovered won't end your mission. Sometimes it will. On the same mission. At the same location. By the same guard. Baffling.

Other than that, a lot about the game feels great.
  • Ship combat feels just right
  • Traversal normally works pretty well
  • The shanties are awesome, and most of the collectables feel frequent and easy enough to get to just have a good time running around in the environment
  • All the areas look pretty cool
  • Sailing at travel speed makes me want to buy a boat

Honestly, you'll keep boarding because you'll want to have enough materials to upgrade your ship. They make you grind for metal.

The boarding is boring though and I hated that objective where you had to go up to the flag so I always just sunk them and collected the loot. You only get half the loot but you make up for that because it is obviously quicker and less boring imo. Throw on some music and just blast ships for like an hour.

Yeah metal grinding might be the worst aspect of this game [aside from the forced stealth eavesdropping, remember to 1-star that shit guys!]. One tip that might be useful is that Pirate Hunters carry lots of metal and they spawn extremely often.

So if you're looking to stack up on metal get at least two wanted "stars" and just let them come to you while you search for regular ships carrying metal.

A lot of the campaign stuff is pretty bad, I'll admit. Too much stealthy following botched by the free run deciding I'd rather make a sharp left off a barrel to lunge at the guy who isn't supposed to see me, rather than quietly climb that roof.

I still can't get anymore barrels for the ship battles in my fleet. I think I need to try and plunder larger ships, or odds haven't rewarded me yet.

Is taking out all of the legendary ships mandatory?
No. It gives you a trophy plus an unlock for the ship.

I tended to get them when I was able to win in the very first "round". I also never really needed to use them, so I had about a hundred of them by the time I was finished with the app.

Yeah, I was basically killing pirates over and over again. There's also very little consequence for dying, other than having to start the process over again.

40 hours to complete the main story for me.

Ending was a little abrupt with a few lose ends but on the whole, enjoyable.

Still got plenty to do such as the special gear from Inuaga and what ever them stones things are for from the steleas.

Thank you. I'm just wanting to finish the main story now and move on for a while. These ships are taking the fun out of it. I'm fully upgraded but they're kicking my ass.
The strategy for all of them is to basically just get behind them and snipe them to death.

I used that technique and almost beat the one in the southwest corner of the map. I was so close but I had already taken quite a bit of damage getting there. Also, it's a lot faster than my ship so even after getting in a lot of damage to him, I had a hard time staying there, and then getting back.

PS+, Xbox Live cloud saving, Steam cloud saving brah.

Don't tell you were playing on WiiU

Do tell about X1 cloud saves?...

Found this and I'll have to try a cloud restore tonight. Thanks heaps if it works.

EDIT: Oh crap, it looks like I may have a uPlay cloud issue and might be jumping the gun thinking my son deleted it!

Yeah that would make more sense, deleting an X1 save file is pretty out of the way (You have to go to the game in games and apps, manage game, and go over to the right panel)

I already did....day one......

i am cry

You and me both bro.... I thought Freedom Cry would be 15 dollars if I'd known it was gonna be 10 I wouldn't have even bother to get the Season Pass. IT's funny I always was like "How dumb do you have to be to buy a season pass before you know what;s on it" and now I know :(

Do the collectables you get as rewards actually do anything?

They sit on your mansion at the pirate hideout place. So you can check them out the one time you bother to visit it after buying all the upgrades to the place...

Only the song sheets give you anything that matters, so collecting the other stuff is basically just a big waste of time.

Just started playing yesterday. It's a lot of fun so far. A lot of it does feel like more of the same but I still really enjoy it. Edward seems like he'll be pretty fun. I made it to a good stopping point but I may go around collecting things tomorrow. I want to play more but I think I'm going to have my attention on Dark Souls II for a bit.

Edit: Nevermind, found it it's all normal. :E

Is there a trick to not aggroing everything on the planet when you try to engage in naval combat? Because any time I see a trade vessel, I'll get the vessel, its two escorts and about three other ships which just leads to chains upon chains of ships attacking me

You can board the first vessel once you have disabled it, the others are kind enough to with until you are finished with it before continuing the battle. Other than that, I'd advice not to attack ships if ships from the same country are near.

Yep and you can use that ship to repair yours. I piggy-backed a lot of ships that way.

So I bought the digital PS4 version on PSN in December but only played a little bit and haven't touched it since until this month.

For the last few days I've been trying to start the game and it crashes every time on start. When I hit the "press X" splash screen, it displays the message about Uplay and then crashes. I tried deleting the game and reinstalling, and tried deleting my save, but nothing works.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas?

I think there's some issues on ubisofts side. I keep losing connection to their server and uplay. Anybody else having issues? Ps4 version

Finished!

A happy ending, non screwy ending? Cool. I was expecting some bigger hints on the future of the franchise but I guess Ubi needed some extra time to think of things after that trainwreck in AC3. It does set up that 3rd faction with John / Roberts / First Civ which will play a role going forward I guess

Really enjoyed my time with it. Was good to spread a game across 3 months and I just happened to finish before Infamous which is nice.

Will have to get that Shanty soundtrack.

Also if it wasnt for the multiplayer trophies I would have totally plat'd this game. But fuck that shit.

Just bought Freedom Cry standalone on PS4, downloaded and installed 7-8GB. Played the first mission where you have to escape in the storm and after cutscene it goes to loading screen and says "Install in progress, 9%" and is just stuck there.

Any ideas?

*edit*

Just checked it's now downloading another 3.2GB, why didn't it just do it all up front, my internet isn't fast enough to download as I play..................
