Assassin's Creed Movie (Michael Fassbender lead/co-producer)

If he gets a solid world-building director on board, this could easily end up being a good movie.

Ridley Scott plz.

I have hope. Ubi said they're taking control of it this time. They probably saw what happened to POP and don't wanna make it shit with AC.

Considering PoP is one of the better game films... yes?

probably, but its not hard to achieve seeing as the majority of adaptations have been garbage

also $91 million from US box office and $335 worldwide is not good enough

ubi having creative control is a step in the right direction, now they need to ensure it performs well.

i think it will do well, better than PoP for sure. they cant afford to screw this up, if they nail this then the AC franchise will blow up

if they fudge it up then that will be 2 of their major franchises' hollywood dreams in the gutter

Maybe he'll play Desmond (since he doesn't look like Altair/Ezio/Connor). Unless I really missed something in the last 4 games and all those guys actually look the same? lol... I admit, I never gave a shit for the Desmond stuff.

Blah-blah-blah....

What a nothing statement/move this move is. No director attached. Just a star given a vainty producing deal despite the fact his 'shingle' hasn't produced anything approaching this size.

I bet this is a 'no money' down deal. A deal is done in principle but no cash actually changes hands. Ubisoft have had aspirations to make their own movies for years and time and again it's been nothing but talk.

Remember when they were going to start making feature length CG movies for theatrical release? How did that pan out for them?

But in saying that making a film like this would not be cheap and if Ubisoft are genuinely ambitious and passionate enough to do this then kudos to them.

However to say I'm skeptical would be a major over statement.

Oh yeah, I think if they get their own way this should turn out a better film (well, it's not guaranteed but it's promising at least). I don't know how to make it do better commercially, but AC is strong right now- when PoP film came out, the series was pretty much dead again. If that film had come out in, say, 2004, it probably would have done better.

I think there are many different options this film could take. If they are adapting the games in a strict sense it will be interesting to see what happens to narrative from the Brohood and Revelations games. I also think whether they will have Fassbender play both Desmond and Altair will tell us more about their aims. Firstly if he is only playing Altair, I can see them incorporating some of the elements from revelations to provide a more complete altair story if we are only going to see him the one time, or if he is playing all the characters whether or not they are going to make up a way to explain why he looks the same in each memory.

But I think they will end up creating a movie that doesn't directly adapt the games, but instead exists within the same universe and complements the franchise as a whole, similar to lineage.

this might give some people some idea how he might look lol

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Fassassin's Creed...the man does so much comic/scifi work for someone who can do pretty much anything. I find that pretty interesting, but I hope he does an equal amount of small stuff like with his movies with McQueen.

What's great about this, is that it can be PG-13 without the movie automatically sucking.

Oh and count me in as a member of FassbenderGAF.

I can maybe see Fassbender as Ezio, but I dunno if I'd buy him as Desmond. He's too damn handsome for a character I always thought was supposed to be very average.

The narrative of the first game could be easily adapted provided the bulk of the assassinations were cut out - it's all very much dependent on getting a good director / screenwriter at this stage though. (Nolan brothers? please?)

I could see either JJ Abrams or Duncan Jones directing this. Both are self confessed gamers and have probably played the games, and both have directed movies of a similar genre.

I would love to see what one of them could do.

This would be perfect as the dynamic of the animus storyline occuring alongside the present day storyline is very similar to what jones did in source code (quite well iirc)

Yep, the source code thing reminded me of the animus to a large extent. I'm sure Duncan Jones could do a good sci-fi meets history sort of film.

I hope he's a new character (but I suppose he will still be desmond no?) but if by any chace they are going to choose one of the originals, please, for the mother of god, dont choose anticharismatic Altair. Even knowing anything about connor im pretty sure he's going to be better than him (it is right now, as ubi chosed Ivan Muelas for the spanish dub :D).

You see "Shame"? Dude has a massive hidden blade!

He doesn't have to look the part. It's fucking Hollywood, they had 4 foot Tom Cruise play a vampire that was suppose to be 6 feet tall with a small nose. Hahaha.

Fassbender is usually the best part of any movie that he appears in. whether his attachment to the Ass Creed film project constitutes any real forward momentum for it ever actually getting made is debatable, but his involvement is very good news.
