career suicide begins with roles in video game adaptations. nice going mike.

He has been awesome in everything I have seen him in. As long as they don't cheese it up, it could turn out to be pretty good. Maybe even great. Assassin's Creed has the foundation to be made into a interesting movie, if done right. Having a guy like this on board will surely help the cause.

I don't see him as Altair or Ezio or Connor. He has to be playing some new kind of assassins or Desmond.

It depends on how directly they take from the games story line i could be that he is Desmond or another Subject and when he relives memory of his arabic ancestors he looks identical to his subject form.

Tell that to

Dwayne "The "Saviour Of Franchises" Rock" Johnson.

I love how the author of the article mentions the plot of the games and then just says: "travels back in time for artifacts"...or something. Because, honestly, who knows what the fuck is going on with that franchise's story. Start with a cliff hanger, end with a cliff hanger and explain nothing has pretty much been my experience with the series.

this show is not Breaking Bad why is it not Breaking Bad? it should be Breaking Bad dammit Breaking Bad
He would have made a great Solid Snake. :)

I can see Subject 16's involvement with the Animus Project being the narrative foundation of the film.

Blah-blah-blah....

What a nothing statement/move this move is. No director attached. Just a star given a vainty producing deal despite the fact his 'shingle' hasn't produced anything approaching this size.

I bet this is a 'no money' down deal. A deal is done in principle but no cash actually changes hands. Ubisoft have had aspirations to make their own movies for years and time and again it's been nothing but talk.

Remember when they were going to start making feature length CG movies for theatrical release? How did that pan out for them?

But in saying that making a film like this would not be cheap and if Ubisoft are genuinely ambitious and passionate enough to do this then kudos to them.

However to say I'm skeptical would be a major over statement.

Not really denying any of this but the prologue movie they made for Assassin's Creed II was pretty good.

Fassbender is easily one of the best actors working today, and he'll in all likelihood give a fantastic performance in this but I can't realistically get excited for a video game adaptation.

If that Ghost Recon short is if any indication of what UBI is aiming for, it may turn out visually interesting at least.

Least it'll look like it's well shot and with a decent budget/cgi work behind it.

While Francisco Randez was the original model (until Revelations) and he's a great TV host, model, personality and singer; he's not an actor per se (heck, Ubisoft even used Devon Bostick to play Ezio in the ACII short-films while Randez was the face-model for the games).

Not that is a "bad thing" though and I also remember his english having a french accent, probably because his main language is french.

Hope he is an all new assassin in an all new story. We don't need a rehash of AC1-Revelations. Movies aren't the master medium, it doesn't take a Big-screen adaptation to make a a story legitimate.

Isn't it still modeled after the same guy, but "more detailed"? Not my words, but Ubisoft's if I'm not mistaken.
No, it's based on the same model, but mixed in with a malformed rabbit.
I really should get to play Revelations before III drops, by the way.
You probably shouldn't, it's not a very compelling Assassin's Creed, though the setting itself is very beautiful.

Nice to see Ubi hiring some real talent. Altough while writing news about it I looked at Fassbender at IMDB and was shocked to learn the dude was born in 1977. He looks like ten years older than he is

Another key development - looks like this is moving ahead (duplicate post, I know, but I missed that the thread I'd put this in was in OT):

UBISOFT® AND NEW REGENCY PARTNER ON ASSASSIN'S CREED® FILM

Deal Builds on Attachment of Michael Fassbender

SAN FRANCISCO - October 22, 2012 -Today, Ubisoft® and New Regency announced that they are partnering on the forthcoming Assassin's Creed® film.

Ubisoft Motion Pictures, the film and television division of Ubisoft, will develop the Assassin's Creed film in close collaboration with New Regency. The development of a screenplay is beginning immediately and the project is being fast tracked as the creative pieces come together, while allowing Ubisoft to maintain control of key elements of the movie's creative direction. Financial terms of the deal are not being disclosed.

"Ubisoft chose to partner with New Regency because they are a talent- and filmmaker-driven company, with the same independent and creative mindset that we have at Ubisoft Motion Pictures," said Jean-Julien Baronnet, chief executive officer, Ubisoft Motion Pictures. "Bringing aboard New Regency's renowned production and distribution expertise while maintaining our own creative and financial flexibility ensures that Assassin's Creed will be a high-quality film that respects the lore and fans of the video game franchise."

The partnership with New Regency comes hot on the heels of Ubisoft Motion Pictures attaching distinguished actor Michael Fassbender to the Assassin's Creed film.

"We wanted to do everything we could to secure the rights to Assassin's Creed, which Ubisoft has maintained with such care and quality over the years," said Brad Weston, president and chief executive officer, New Regency. "Having just finished working with Michael on Steve McQueen's 12 Years A Slave (with Plan B) made the partnership even more irresistible."

Is it going to focus on an Assassin like Altair or Ezio, or is Abstergo, the Animus, Desmond etc going to be the main thing? Either way i don't expect much from it, most movie adaptations of games end up terrible.
