Yeah, people should really buy Shadow of Mordor instead. It actually has gameplay! AssCreed is so played out and stale.
You aren't even on topic with that post.My head hurts.
I have an Xbox One. I could buy a PS4 any time I want, but there's nothing on the system that interests me so I could justify buying a second console. I like the One because of the OS, infrastructure, and because I don't like (old) Sony as a company. Also, I like Kinect. Feels like I am in the future everytime I use voice commands when watching Netflix. But I guess I'm easily excited.
That said, I couldn't care less about this whole resolution discussion. I wouldn't care if the PS4 version looks better. Let it run in 1081p, even, and the Xbox One version in 720p. I won't notice it when playing, and sure, you'll see it when both versions run next to each other, but is this really this significant?
Just play good games, have fun, and do whatever you like best.
I realize that this comment adds nothing to the discussion, but after reading some dozens of heated arguments, I just had to write this down. I'm not sure I understand the fanaticism rampant here.
It's become heated because Ubisoft has intentionally held a system back and most importantly, assumed that the gaming community are a bunch of low intelligence people who only see resolution numbers, hence the "to avoid debates" line. Ubisoft is quickly becoming what EA was last gen; pump out good games, but be disrespectful to your customers. My head hurts.

So silly....

I'd actually say that was a fair assessment, add in irrational, hysterical and volatile and you've just summed up online gaming communities in 2014

LOL, it's just a poor wording.
UPDATE 7/10/14 11.40am: Ubisoft has told Eurogamer that Assassin's Creed Unity's final technical specifications for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are actually still to be locked down.
I'm curious... What would you deem "good enough proof"?No, if you think about it, it really isn't.
Wtf does this even mean? http://www.gamersyde.com/hqstream_assassin_s_creed_unity_interview_d_alexandre_amancio-33182_en.html I see plenty of gameplay in this interview. Also this demo, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF9bO-tPxKE To imply that Unity has no gameplay is complete nonsense.Yeah, people should really buy Shadow of Mordor instead. It actually has gameplay! That's why rendering engineers earn so much moneyThe guys ironing out every ms of the rendering with profiling are usually very gifted people who know their stuff.
I think devs have a good "feeling" of what is "expensive" and what is not.
They said it - it's AI that is extremely expensive in their engine. By now the common opinion is that resolution isn't impacted by the CPU but I didn't find any sources on this, just repititions of the statement. Btw, this would also apply to the Xbone version...

While I see exactly where you're coming from, isn't it a case where it's just a small vocal minority who are actually getting into the "debates"? The rest just make jokes around the whole issue. That's how it's always appeared to me.I'd actually say that was a fair assessment, add in irrational, hysterical and volatile and you've just summed up online gaming communities in 2014
You have no idea what they tried to do, they got to 900p/30fps on PS4, this they might think is an acceptable standard since Watch Dogs and Battlefield 4 sold millions at that resolution on PS4.
The Xbox One version was 720p, then nearly 800p, then they get the bump from the Kinect rescource removal and managed 900p also, we have evidence that the Xbox One version was at two lower resolutions during this process, we have no physical evidence at all that the PS4 version was ever higher than 900p.
The Xbox One is closer to the R7 250x than anything else. The PS4 is a dead ringer for the R7 265 though so you are correct there.
Did what?Somebody went ahead and did it.
Jesus fucking christ....

Obviously this is what happened.
Thread is still going and i keep repeating the same things, but it's obvious that they are not making an announcement to say they knocked down the PS4 version to match xbone's.
What they are proud to announce is they managed to bump the Xbone's res to match PS4's.
And that's it, really.
Of course since no matter what, PS4 is quite a bit more capable, resolution parity will result in either
a) differences of some other kind (textures res, AA, assets, shadows quality, AO quality, AF quality ETC ETC ETC)
or
b) differences in performance.
Until the game is released and it's completely identical in every respect (at which point we can conclude the PS4 version was indeed artificially capped) this is what it's fair to assume happened.
Microsoft wants their games to run at the same res as PS4's, no matter the cost in terms of performance or fidelity. This thread does a great job explaining why: a lot of people will only read that number before the "p" forgetting that graphics are the combination of thousands of other technical aspects.
Where did they say they "Rolled Back" the PS4 version?
Getting PC version, not that it's much better[/spoiler]
Oh so you've played Unity then? Please inform us of your impressions. Because obviously it's was all just checking boxes right? Oh and the story must have been meaningless. Don't infer that the game "has no gameplay." Because that's just not true in anyway shape or form.I know how AssCreed plays. It is the epitomy of shallow check-box open world experiences and meaningless stories. Please don't bother me with it, Yves.
Thanks for reply.
I know people have said the architectures are similar for both consoles but I really feel like you have to adopt a totally different approach to come up with anything close to similar results as the ps4 (1080p perspective) and even then the ps4 can and still will leave the xone in its wake. While what rendering engineers can probably do is no doubt impressive its still 32mb. Like I wonder how frustrating a o job that must be taking parts of the engine code and re-write it to run the ESRAM...
Another random question that I wonder if anyone could answer (I'm going slightly off topic). GPU you computing is all about the CPU you telling the GPU to manage heavy workloads of (non logic) orientied tasks or something along those lines (So I dont think from an effieciency purpose it would be good for AI) thats all read from the same unified memory pool in the Ps4. How does this work GPU compute work on the xbone? It sounds like friggin headache lol
Also the CPU has like literally almost nothing to do with resolution output (as far I'm aware). Try it now, run your task manager if your running a windows OS or something and switch resolution and see if there is any real difference in CPU usage.. (I know that might be a bad example due to various factors background programmes etc) but you can see my point, it literally has nothing to do with each other. If they had said FPS then ok, I can get that if your AI is heavy or wateva but resolution no.
they said they locked it at 900p to avoid discussion of the console versions being different... it's in the OP.
They just said that they're planning to bump the resolution up to 1080p for the ps4 version. It's in the OP.
Good. It'll be 1080p in the end.. I hope.
Dude I already acknowledged that I misread that. Like way back in the thread. ._.Nope.... you misread it...
"Last year's Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag also shipped at 900p/30fps on both PS4 and Xbox One. A post-release patch, however, bumped the PS4 version to 1080p. Ubisoft has given no indication that it has plans to do the same for Unity."
You are correct in your analysis that your comment added nothing to the discussion. PS4 is specifically made for 1080p gaming, the GPU has 32 ROPs (raster operations pipes) which is responsible for final pixel output. People are mad Ubi opted for the same 16 ROPs target as the Xbone for the PS4 version.
What if both versions end up 1080p/30?

Hopefully they'll actually fix the resolution
