I recall many Japanese people speaking up about it. It could be that in view of all the other criticism they received for Shadows, they decided to 'err on the site of caution' and remove the figurine. As well, everyone is free to have their own opinion on it, but I think they made the right choice. Not only did the One-legged Torii Gate not exist during the time period Shadows is set in - its historical and cultural importance to the Japanese people doesn't lend itself to a figurine for a game.
That's true. I don't know where it falls on the scale of "tacky"<--->"what the absolute fuck" for japanese people.
