Assassin's Creed Unity - Review Thread

You went to all that effort but didn't make the hand go in front of the bottom teeth? :P

J/K Good Job. :)

I think I do get what you are saying, you're just using wrong analogies and made it sound like recreating Notre Dame as a true to life 3D model wasn't very impressive because PS4 and XBoxOne have so much memory. You have to realize how nonsensical such a statement is.

Its a big achievement no question, especially being interactive. Just because there is a lot of memory it doesnt make that process easy or simple. There is a ton of work in this game, and it really is a shame that they spent all this time on a poor end result when its not the fault of the people creating those assets. It appears that had the game been delayed as long as say GTA V was, it could have been great.

Sounds like they should have made AC Rogue a crossgen game and delay Unity until things were better shape. Also I wonder if they are just going to fix some bugs with the game and be done with it, or are they also going to try and optimize the game to get the framerate up to acceptable levels.
I would have been all over a XB1/PS4 Rogue. I really hope they optimize Unity, but who knows?

Main issue is: are they planning on continuing a release a year (2 this year) ?

They may have been planning a sequel on the unity engine to come out next year. I have no idea if thats the plan its just speculation.

In that case, they'd be releasing 2 games that year on the same platforms if there is both a sequel to unity AND a port of rogue.

Have to say at this point, I feel burned by AC and dont intend buying another AC. F AC and the horse it rode in on (Rogue)

My guess for the mediocre optimization, is simply that they overshot how detailed of an environment, and how detailed the amount of NPC's they needed for the game design could be, and still run on the new-gen systems.

It's entirely possible and more than likely we'll get another AC with a vastly more optimized game engine, and superior image quality next year. Considering how fast Ubi is pumping these out, I don't see any reason why delaying this game to get slightly better review scores this year would make financial sense for them, even if it is disappointing for fans.

Here's to hoping they release patches that help in the near future.

Ahah I called my Gamestop to change my preorder from AC:U to DA: Inquisition and the guy laughed and said I was far from the first to do that today

This is from the review, let me translate.

"When I for the first time climb one of Notre-Dames magnificent towers, I don't think about resolution or fps at all."

That's all he says about the technical issuses, nothing else. And he played it on Xbox1 and PS4.

Read the review of DA: Inqusition on the same site, under it's cons it gets a - because it has bugs, no mention of this on AC:Unity?

Did you check out the comments section on the Playstation Lifestyle review? Outside of the snarky paid off comments and responses from the site, most of the site's employees said this:

Maybe he didn't experience any of the issues others were seeing?

Which is definitely a golf clap deserving response. I understand statistics, but the probability that the reviewer didnt run into a single issue when the rest of the media and game owners have is improbable. Not to mention not two posts later is the write-up about the day one patch and how its definitely needed.

I'll just leave this here.

Are you kidding me? Shadow of Mordor is an 84 and only 3 points higher than this trainwreck, which is all the more worrisome as Shadow of Mordor is a measurably better game on all fronts. Hell its ranked higher than Watch Dogs, which I dont think had as much problems. For that matter, it also ranks higher than Destiny which is a game marred by lack of content and living up to hype rather than quality of the existing content (essentially its not a bug ridden mess). Why is Metacritic only picking the good scores for this game? IGN is ranked for Destiny and not this POS? What the deuce?

Yeah this isn't the game's fault, you just have too many dust bunnies in your console's fan. Just grab a can of compressed air and blow those suckers out. If you're not familiar with dust bunnies they look like this:

I'm really out of the loop.

What is this face?

So finally got the game. The more I play it the more I am confused at the reception its getting.... then again I though AC3 was the best one and everyone says I should hate it.

PC btw (and still early on)

Guy at work who's reviewing it for a website didn't bother to tell me the game was crap when he's had it for the last week. Luckily I was still able to cancel my preorder today.
He says Rogue is awesome though.

Actually, unity gameplay is not bad but framerate is dropping to hell and a lot of disgusting marketing strategies are implemented into the game.

That probably sounds great now, but can you imagine how much shit they would get for releasing a 2nd cross-gen Assassin's Creed in a row in lieu of going full next-gen?

Probably a lot less than they're getting now? Far Cry, Call of Duty, Battlefield and the like got some shit for it but nothing like this outrage.

Looking like an unmitigated disaster. Black Flag it is for me then.

Speaking of which, why on earth did they not get the guy who did Black Flag on this game, seeing how it was such a bold new direction for the series?

I thought that was a good idea...but then I imagined the NeoGaf shitstorm about yet another cros gen AC.

Yeah I read the comments. And maybe the guy didn't notice the problems that other people have, but seeing the Digital Foundry analysis it feels like there's no way you wouldn't notice the stuttering or pop-ins.

Maybe he has a higher tolerance for that, but as a reviewer the dude has a responsibility to inform customers of such obvious issuses with the game, atleast in my opinion.
