Assassin's Creed Unity - Review Thread

Hope people have learned their lesson and don't continue to say 'fuck this, they aren't getting another cent out of me... Oh a new game is out today? I gotta be one of the cool kids and buy it day one.'

??

980 is good enough for max 1080/60fps in this game. Just turn off the AA or use FXAA. Everything else can be maxed in my experience.

A GTX970 is doing well between 45-60 FPS (closer to 55 in most cases) with FXAA.

I don't see why people are so disappointed. This game is honestly quite good (on PC) and it is very much resembling a bigger bolder version of earlier titles. It certainly is not as buggy as AC3 was, and the story is not dissimilar to the AC2 plot. I get the people liked AC:BF, but, let's be honest, while it was a good pirate game it was not and Assassin's Creed game.

Both in AC3 and Black Flag, the architecture just didn't feel right, the watch towers were a joke and the sense of verticality and scale was lost. Boston and New York just didn't have a lot of iconic locations to explore while the Black Flag towns and islands are oh-so-forgettable. The dissonance between the core AC mechanics is readily apparent, when on one of the first islands in Black Flag you had to climb on a tiny tree trunk, from which you could barely see a part of the jungle to synchronise... seriously?

I'm not against AC evolving but if the core game mechanic is not assassinations but naval combat, it should really be spun off into a different franchise.

Despite the low scores, which Ubisoft brought on itself by being greedy and, honestly, stupid with PR, microtransactions, embargoes and console parity, this is a first proper Assassin's Creed game since Brotherhood.

This game is worth a try, and definitely worth a purchase in a couple of months when the most egregious bugs will be found and squashed.

The gloal of a game maker is to make a game people like to play. Not to make an assassin's creed game. AC:BF is very fun, so they should be refining those ideas even further rather than moving away from it.

Check the PS4 version. Bone version is 76.

Check the amount of reviews filed for both though. 36 (Xbone) vs 11 (PS4). In cases like this I go for the version with the most reviews to see what the Metacritic score is more accurately.

Shame Assassin's Creed Rogue doesn't seem to be getting reviews added to its page on Metacritic though. Only 4 for the 360 version and none for the PS3 one. General consensus though is that it's Black Flag 2 and so Black Flag fans will be sorted without Unity-level issues.

So review scores (numbers from "respected" websites) and actual game (pile of garbage with ok game hidden under it) are not matching?
Dat journalistic integrity.

I'll just leave this here.

Wait, what is going on? Why don't the scores of those major outlets not count?

Reviews scores and NeoGAF hyperbole are not matching.

Of course not all of GAF. Many are just enjoying the game while the others circle jerk around some glitches and unplayable framerates (which is actually pretty contradictory to people actually playing the game).

Nice user reviews on Metacritic

Sometimes in life, some people have such ill intentions that you have to create an account just to give credit where credit is due.
I have played all of the AC games so far. Starting from Playstation 2 days. The first one got me bored after a while and I didn't finish it

Still highly interested in this game, but I´m not buying it in the state it´s currently in.

I´ll check back on it occasionally to see if they get the performance up and get rid of the microtransaction bullshit.

what are those aggregation sites doing

edit: co marketing deal probably meant xbone copies for everyone, xbone page has all critics listed.

Joystiq must be a hyperbole NeoGAF review.

This is hilarious and sad.

My review:

PROS
- if you approach the bar in the Café Théâtre you can drink coffee. For free
- If you walk up to the balcony of Arno's room you casually lean and enjoy the view

CONS
- You can't pet dogs or feed chickens anymore

8/10

Are you going around trolling GAF and all of it's threads involving Unity? Or at least only contributing with driveby posts.

The fuck are you talking about? "going around trolling GAF with driveby posts", link me two posts of mine where I troll anyone. You seem to be mistaken me for someone else.

I was trying to keep it lighthearted, which apparantly was an error in judgement.

I enjoyed your review.

will wait for an eventual performance "patch" but so far no review has made a good job at telling me if the game can be played like a story driven open-world game with strong parkour and sweet assassinations.

I found both AC3&4 embarassingly bad at delivering a straight forward experience.

Since some reviews are pointing at better parkour and some cool "end-of-sequence" assassinations, it harkens me back to AC1&2 wich is all I'm asking for.

I don't give a fuck about microtransactions. I might even bite. yeah I'm bad, but I have neither the time nor the patience for Dragon Age 50hrs + campaign. So getting that sweet Sword of Eden from the start, a nice outfit and go unto my oh-so-cliché revenge path and not giving a fuck about buying villas/restoring shops and other non-story driven missions is a plus.

These are dark times of despair, not lighthearted jokes!
