The annoying thing with these sims from the PC are how unpolished they always seem to be. I LOVED the handling on Race Pro on the 360 but the rest of the game was a hot mess. Always terrible UI, little to no real gameplay structure. It always feels really baron and pointless and is solely there for the great handling model, hence why I end up using them for just hot lapping and enjoying the handling model and self improvement aspect. To be fair on them very few driving games have ever had any really competent career aspect. Nothing that felt right for a driving game, nothing that makes me feel like a professional racer in any way, especially the ones going exactly for that vibe (cos they dumb everything down so much you feel like a 5 year old being condescended to).
I just wish at least we could get the best tracks and handling model like in this game, combined with the slick presentation of a Forza or GT (but GT desperately needs audio that is at least as good as AC!), and THEN get them to assemble it all together so it feels like you're actually achieving something, and no not the soul crushingly repetitive grind of GT's stagnant gameplay loop of old.

My man!!! Race Pro was my favorite racer last gen. Nothing could beat the physics IMO. Average looking and about as barebones as you could get, but the feel of the game was sublime and the track list was the best on console bar none.
Watched a bit, it was fun. You were right, for Monza 66 you need a fast car.
Yea,trying the Lotus 49 now....pray for me! lol

Ha holy crap I loved Race Pro. so weird seeing others like it.
We played it on the 360 about 2 months ago during out gaming BBQ. Everyone HATED It but me haShame that the console ports are lacking; still picking this up to get my fix until I get around to building a new rig, but I was hoping the delays would have done more for the game's performance.
Adding myself to the chorus singing its praises. Good shit, it was.

It's been years since I had the pleasure, but I remember enough to understand why the creaky graphics and cheap production values would make for a poor first impression, particularly on those who might not share the same passion for motorsport as the admittedly niche demographic the game targeted. Given some time, though, and the SimBin magic at the game's core was undeniable.
I'm hoping that the same will eventually be true of AC on consoles, and that after post-release patch(es) have made the visual performance more consistent, Kunos' sublime car dynamics will shine through without much distraction.
To those who've played - how would you compare contrast the career mode to GT or pCARS? I generally really enjoy GT's career modes but didn't love pCARS. It's where I spend most of my time in racing games so it's kind of make or break.
Thanks!
yes, though I've never seen it that bad myself. I'd say it's better than Forza and about as bad as GT, but only thanks to the tire physics.

However if this was the next GT game you'd have people in here bashing it to high heavens! The trees are GT5 bad, you'd have hundreds of posts in here with zoomed in screenshots of the trees with comments about how lazy the Devs are. And I'm not exaggerating, that's how stupid GT threads get!! They only focus on one thing and the game is shit because of it.

Pretty sure PD is still only 100ish I'm terms if total staff. MS I think had much more on Forza. We expect better of GT because of the huge investment and development involved. Like comparing 25 guys making an indie movie to 15,000 working on a Disney movie, when the resource is there you expect no stone un-turned.
However at the core of it all is the fundamental gameplay mechanics, they have to work whatever the development budget.

Personally it doesn't bother me much, as long as - unlike in GT - the race is OVER for the guys involved after that. So it doesn't matter if you spin 30 meters into the run-off areas or only 8m, you won't get back on the track anyway. Its main purpose is to discourage stupid online behavior for me.
In smaller crashes, nudges and bumps or if you are mishandling the car, the damage simulation in AC is pretty ok (which is what I want in offline races), don't expect fancy visual damage though. It's more in the line of "now you have less/zero front downforce", "clutch damage", "suspension left bias".
Nice video, Karak.
Finally some background music in the menus.
I quite like the look of the console UI, I think that'll be the one I'll use when it comes to the PC.
I have the game on the PC and love it (166 hours), and even though the PS4 version seems to be shitty and I don't even *have* a PS4, I might get a used copy down the road because I just love physical games I can put on my shelf.
I didn't like the career mode in pCars or AC at all.To those who've played - how would you compare contrast the career mode to GT or pCARS? I generally really enjoy GT's career modes but didn't love pCARS. It's where I spend most of my time in racing games so it's kind of make or break.
Thanks!
The physics is nailed ....once i got my ffb settings dialed in it's so close to the feel of the PC version it's not even worth mentioning.
Personally, i love it.
If they finally get around to getting full VR support in the PC version (support is currently still considered in alpha), hopefully they manage to find a way to get the PS4 version working with PSVR. AC is one of my favorite titles to run on the Rift.

G'day mate. Have you played the PC version?
Have a friend who swears by this game on PC but on trying the ps4 version last night was disappointed with the FFB outta the box.
Can you elaborate a bit further or maybe share your settings?
Cheers old man

holy shit at that Nordschleife video
Goddamn i need to upgrade my gpu (how's the Vive support?)
There is no Vive support and no Oculus support. The videos you are watching are taken on Oculus DK2 hardware.
Fingers crossed that it is coming back for the consumer versions, but Kunos are kinda busy. Their car pipeline is full to burst and they kinda want to start working on AC2 in 2017.

.
Can anyone compare the UI of the console version compared to the PC one? Apparently the PC version was meant to get a user-friendlier(?) version like it's console counterpart, but last I checked it was still a bit of a cluserfuck.
Yes it is related to studio size and investment.Yeah that is why the production size is the main factor in determining the Oscar winners. Oh wait, no it's not.
It is not in any way relevant what the team size is. So they saved tons of cash in development... Is that meant to make up for the games faults? Do you really have to treat games like GTS more harshly because they spent more money developing the product?
However at the core of it all is the fundamental gameplay mechanics, they have to work whatever the development budget.
Lets remember that the majority of gamers would read your post and say "what the fuck is this dude talking about?"Yes it is related to studio size and investment.
No it's not meant to make up for the game's faults, but In video games, especially racing games, more money, resources, and first party studio backing typically equals higher production values/a more polished product.
Do we treat GTS more harshly? Hell yes! If they have 10 times the development budget and number of people as resources to work on their product as a small studio and they release it with frame rates all over the place, mediocre graphics, and constant tearing, you're damn right people will judge it harshly.
