Well that didn't work out did it?
6 Months ago they released hell divers 2.

Hardly end of the world that some overly woke nonsense earned a dishonorable early death.

Probably do the industry good if the purple haired, side shaved pronoun creators realise no one gives a shit.

THEY are in the minority of gamers, so they should consider representation of those of us without severe mental challenges.

Metacritic sitting at 94!? Holy shit, I didn't expect it to hit those heights.

The Benjamin Birkhead lookalike from Digital Foundry called it potentially the best platformer of all time when he previewed it.

Guess he wasn't kidding. Going to cop this game so fast!!

Jez is salty as fuck

He's been salty since Feb lol.

Wukong selling 18 million copies definitely has him screaming on the inside too.

To be fair, what he is meaning to say is that Microsoft should create a platformer that celebrates its franchises like Astro Bot does for Playstation. Dude lacks introspection so didn't occur to him that he sounded salty as hell.

There must be some misunderstanding. How are they not profitable? Sony hasn't been losing money from their games. Come on now.
We literally have leaked info from insomniac showing their profits per title. Lol. So IDK how people claim Sony games don't make money.

This game being made by only 60 people and in 3 years will have a low budget and should have no problem being profitable.

his original tweet insinuates there is an old IP ms could revive and now the goal post has moved to, it's more about celebrating the history.

God dammit, I had planned to hold out on this one a bit while I'm playing through Outlaws but the reviews have me thinking of impulse purchasing.

It's because you don't listen when people say things.

Astro Bot was a cheaper single player game. Most of Sony's AAA single player games cost big money. They're inherently risky endeavors and they take a long time to produce.

Companies need constantly cash flow and operating income.

Concord was a failure and Helldivers 2 is probably the best selling PlayStation game of all time... "it be like that sometimes"
Sony should take a lesson from Astro Bot: they can produce high quality games with small teams, low cost and in a time frame of 3~4 years. They should pursure that. Not all games need to be like TLOU2.

And Helldivers 2 is not their best selling, btw, if they release a God of War day and date on PC, it will probably sold much better than Helldivers.

All that said, Sony already have a constantly cash flow: PS Plus subscribers, 30% revenue of all third party games, etc. Besides that, Concord and Helldivers 2 are not design to be cash flow machines, because of the way that those games deal with microtransactions.

94? Wow.

Astro is about to go from niche to becoming Mario's biggest rival (sorry Sonic, you've had more than enough chances).

They need to get Playroom on PSVR2 ASAP to ride this, if they care at all in salvaging that system.

Man people get angry when someone says they'll wait for the (very likely) PC port huh?
it's a review thread for the currently only PS5 exclusive game.

Im for games releasing everywhere but you are telling me you can't even sense a teensy bit of shenanigans with a poster coming into a thread about reviews for a soon to be released PS5 exclusive game (which is all we know right now legitimately) just to say "I'll wait for the PC release".

im more shocked that people are taking the bait rather than, "look at all these console warriors" which is what you got out of it.

All publishers/developers need to learn this lesson. You don't need to put 500+ people and hundreds of millions of dollars into a game to make something amazing. Teams that large just creates inefficiency and budgets that large creates risk.

Astrobot may not sell 20m+ copies but in terms of profit margin it's probably going to be an amazing result because it was efficiently made by a small team at a low cost.

I don't think this is your first day here, but it seems like this is your first day here...

All the posters saying this looked average in meltdown mode. Great scores! GOTY contender.. if sales back this up than Sony has to be a special kind of dumb to still be chasing gaas games.

Difference with HellDivers 2 is that they created Astrobot from the start after litteraly 10+ years of doing fun and experimental things (mainly Doucet). HellDivers 2 was a lucky buy from them, not organically earned from the ground like Astrobot. From all we know all key people who created HD2 will be gone in 2 years, for instance bought by MS money and HellDivers IP will die out.

How many units will Astro Bot sell? How many consoles will it push? I love when people try to suggest a lesson can be learned based on little to no data.

Bloodborne was a GOTY game and it simply didn't sell well. What was the lesson to be learned there?

And Helldivers 2 is not their best selling, btw, if they release a God of War day and date on PC, it will probably sold much better than Helldivers.

It was certainly on pace to be. And I like how you say if something else happens than something that did happen wouldn't have happened... lol You have no idea how God of war would perform day and date. Maybe it sells to more people on PC but that comes at a cost of people who would have bought it on console.

All that said, Sony already have a constantly cash flow: PS Plus subscribers, 30% revenue of all third party games, etc. Besides that, Concord and Helldivers 2 are not design to be cash flow machines, because of the way that those games deal with microtransactions.

If you think PS+ is going to pay for all of Sony's development costs through out the year on its vast array of studios, I have a bridge to sell you.

Helldivers released warbonds that have sold EXTREMELY well... they released them monthly for 10 dollars...

Yea I'm surprised they got so angry over it too, I thought it was cheeky but the responses are lol. Also I said nothing about warriors. Anyway it's a great day for gamers!

Yes, they do. That's exactly why Playstation became so popular and big since they started to release those kind of games from mid-PS3 gen onwards (more than they already were, hence why they have such massive revenue). It's what most people expect from Sony.

Smaller titles like Astro Bot, Stellar Blade and Gaas titles like Helldivers 2 are meant to keep people invested with the eco-system and to retain players.

They're all equally important.
Astrobot may not sell 20m+ copies but in terms of profit margin it's probably going to be an amazing result because it was efficiently made by a small team at a low cost.
Yes, but that may not be enough.

What's more important to Sony, is that Astro Bot will act as a welcome distraction from Concord.

Yes, YES, YES, yes.

I guessed 96. I was 2-3 points off depending on how it settles.

I still got it baby! I AM THE MICROCOSM!

GotY contender?

Nah son, this is guaranteed game of the fucking year. Guaranteed. Watch.

Bwahahaha. I think the rumors of Sony's demise were greatly exaggerated. Fuck yes, let this wash over me. Fuck yes.

Watching the reviews, it’s marked how often they use the word ‘enjoyable’. Moment to moment fun and amusement.

That concept of visceral enjoyment, of engagement with the controller has been almost entirely purged from Western game development. Rogue likes occasionally provide it. And it’s no surprise that CoD is as popular as it is, the trigger pull and crunch of a headshot is a polished example of immediate gameplay mechanics.

But most games these days are a catalogue of fucking boring narrative and tired, tedious exploration. Games designed to kill time rather than celebrate seconds.
