That's pretty rare, I've logged around 400 hours on Meruru and that only happened once
Maybe I was just unlucky. Definitely started happening to me a lot (vita)

Maybe 20s is an exaggeration though. I'm pretty impatient. Also, Mimi was my favorite to use and outside the workshop was the most popular location for this to happen to me :(

I can't tell if Escha & Logy is actually longer than the other games, if I'm just taking my sweet-ass time, or if time itself is inflating. I went back and checked how many hours I put into all the Atelier games I've played (yeah I'm one of those nerds who logs all their gaming time) and I've noticed a disturbing trend:

Rorona: 36 hours
Totori: 43 hours
Meruru: 55 hours
Ayesha: 64 hours
Escha & Logy: 85 hours and counting

At least with Ayesha, I had the excuse of going for the Platinum (don't think I even completed a second full playthrough of Rorona or Totori), but with E&L that's going to take at least one more playthrough (stupid girl's association trophy).

400 hours in Meruru?!
That's funny, yes, I think for me it was shorter of PS3 Atelier games and one I enjoyed most.
I platinumed all, I don't think it took more than 50 hours for any of them.
I haven't played Escha & Logy yet, though. Plan to do it some time.

It's pretty easy to inflate the time in Escha & Logy, by just hanging around in Colseit and enjoying the music there. Such a great tune and loved the atmosphere too. Probably spent at least 6-8 hours just walking around there, relaxing
while being on the computer

I've done this too. XD

I think one reason Escha & Logy is taking longer for me than previous games (up to Meruru) is that I spend much more time synthesizing per item. I want to really optimize my skill use, and once you get a large amount of skills to chose from and higher quality materials that gets quite challenging.

But it's great to be able to make 4 items in 1 day of something which nominally takes 2 days for 1 :p
Makes alchemy even more satisfying than it was in the Arland trilogy.

Indeed. The addition of skills during synthesis adds tons of customization options, and so I too spent a lot more time synthesizing than before. XD

I've been doing the same, though alchemy skills were also in Ayesha (minus the element pips, I think they just used CP) so I've been spending all this time in two games now optimizing skill use. Actually, a bunch of the nice things about Escha & Logy's alchemy system come from Ayesha--ingredients you find in the field stacking in your container and all having the same traits/quality, for example.

I kind of miss being able to set how many of an item you want when synthesizing items, though. Some of the tasks where you have to make multiple bombs/healing items suck because there's no way to make more than one item at a time (Quantity +1/+2 add to the uses on an item in those cases, but you still just get one item).

New Shallie info from Gematsu

New Characters

Cortez (voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka) - A childhood friend of Shallistela who acts as her guard and has a big brother sort of personality. His weapon of choice is a pike.
Nadi Elminus (voiced by Aya Hisakawa) - As Shallote’s mother, she accompanies her daughter as she goes about her job. However, since she’s not particularly knowledgeable about alchemy, she tends to take up more than she can chew for her own work.
Theokuga (voiced by Shin Aomori) - He is a shipbuilder who also ends up accompanying Shallistela as her escort. He prefers to address her formerly as “m’lady.”

Field Actions

Certain field actions are exclusive to either Shallistera or Shallote, although some of them can be mutually performed by both of them.

Fishing is exclusive to Shallote. By fishing with specially prepared bait, you can get more items for mixing.
Dowsing, on the other hand, is exclusive to Shallistera. Doing so can uncover new items that are hidden in the fields.
Mining can be done by both characters. As with dowsing, by mining at certain points on the field, you can obtain new items.
Shallote can also exclusively perform something simply described as “cleaning,” although the specifics remain mum. As a side note, each of the girls are said to have nicknames for each other, with Shallistera going by “Stera” and Shallote going by “Lote.”

That sounds awesome, I really loved the mom characters in Grandia 1 & 3, hopefully she's as cool as them

So there's some gameplay footage up now for Atelier Shallie. A couple of interesting things from watching it:

Time management does indeed look like it is gone from the game. Will be interesting to see how this game pans out, both to me personally and sales wise. The last time they removed the time managment, the games didn't sell very well.

The environments and fields look like they have gone through a massive overhaul. They actually look big and nice in this one, despite you being able to actually rotate your camera in this game. There's also a map now, when you're out in fields. Which probably means they will be a lot more complex than the previous ones in this series.

I am excited by what I've seen so far. There are also some scans of some of the new characters out there. The old dwarf is my favourite so far.

I'm still looking forward to the game, but not gonna lie; losing the time management is kind of a bummer. :/

Wow, interesting that they're changing the formula pretty drastically in the middle of a series. I really liked the time management system, but I don't mind playing a game without it since there are a lot of other subsystems which make the game fun.

The footage only had a few clips, but I love how the environments look. It's a pretty game.

I'll also miss the time limit... but it's nice that they have actual dungeons now.

What I'm worried about is this "make alchemy easier" business. A super in-depth item crafting system is mandatory for atelier! E&L's is probably the best alchemy system of the PS3 atelier games, and I hope they improve upon it instead of taking features away. I can't read japanese, but the alchemy screen revealed so far seems far less information dense than E&L's alchemy screen, so I'm rather pessimistic.

I don't actually understand how the games are going to work without time management now. The whole thing about the game was having to do as much as possible to unlock the various endings in the game; if you have unlimited time, doesn't that break that system? My worry is they'll find some other way to lock people's endings away, i.e. through endless grinding (dodge one hundred lightning bolts in a row to unlock Marion's ending!).

That said, I haven't actually watched the footage yet, since it takes half an hour to download and the NicoNico player doesn't let you skip ahead. Also, the woman that opens that video is nuts. Makes me feel like the Atelier series is targeted towards imbeciles and the brain damaged.

I wonder if maybe they just changed the way time management works? There's still a bar in some of the gameplay footage (Shallistera in the ice field, for example). Though it is weird that there's no date, and Shallotte's section has no bar. Maybe that's related to their unique field action or something.

One way I could see them streamlining it is if only traveling and alchemy took up time, while fighting battles and collecting materials didn't. Those were always the least constraining parts of the time stuff anyways and getting rid of it would make the system a lot easier to explain. But you'd think they would still show the date in those cases, and maybe I'm just trying to think my way around the obvious.

Why the time management :/
I'm holding any further judgement until I see what kind of system they replace the time management with.

The towns and fields look really good, feels like they're finally getting those towards the level of the character models

Wow, the Japanese voices aren't annoyingly high pitched this time. That makes me REALLY happy. Now I feel like importing again. lol

The free camera and full dungeons and towns look really really neat. I wonder if the world map will be gone in this installment just as the time limit has gone bye bye. Hopefully the childhood friend and mommy are fun/interesting supporting characters.

Oh and...

Team Shallie/Shallistera for me. Seems the game is named after her. :D

Anyway, with time limit gone and a potential full blown 3D world open to explore, this game is looking quite different from all the Atelier games on PS3 thus far. I hope the battle system kicks butt. I wouldn't mind a little drama and some tense conflict inserted into the story as well. Make the chit-chats interesting, Gust!

I need to get back to playing Rorona, so I can play the rest. These game times are helpful. I need any kind of motivation to get myself playing again.

Have been playing Escha & Logy for review purposes and I've really enjoyed it, might look into others in the series. :D Can anyone else who has finished it clear up a couple of things for me?

- Is there
multiple trophies to collect depending on the option choices
after the last boss? And is there like a
conclusive/canon choice
to go with?

- I've heard talk of ultimate weapons? Do you get them from
clearing all the assignments or beating the optional super bosses?
I'm going through new game+ on Logy's side this time and will probably get to that sooner or later.:)

You don't really have to spoiler tag stuff like that, but to answer them in order: yes, no, and you have to make them yourself, though you'll get good materials from bosses

Perhaps I shouldn't ask here, but anyone watching the Atelier anime?

After watching the first episode, thought it was really well done.

Definitely wasn't the cute girls doing cute things I thought they were going to do from the teasers (though I guess that's to be seen). Definitely seems to be following the plot of the game.

I wouldn't recommend that honestly, playing a game is always better than watching an adaptation

I'd tell you to play the game, but I'm biased obviously. XD

Plus there's a lot of derp in the anime.
It's much easier to watch the anime and leave the game sealed, because of the time required. lol

But the anime was nice. Dare I say, perhaps Aria-esque.
