Glad you liked it, I go to the Porter quite a bit! My brother's old classmate actually owns the place, great beer, great food too. Little 5 Points is a trip, eh? You should have seen it ~15-20 years ago!

Yep, L5P was great. Love the exterior design of The Vortex and Savage Pizza.

I assume it's gone through a great deal of gentrification recently?

Atlanta has its ups and downs for me but I love the city enough to go all-in and buy my first house here with my wife. Yay for ITP living!

We are in the Cobb County twilight zone aka "Smyrnings" or "fake Vinings" just inside the perimeter. When we were house hunting during the summer we saw the same Indian and Japanese couples at each open house we visited which gave us good vibes because my wife and I are both minorities as well. Nearly all our friends live in lily-white areas like Peachtree City and we have had less than ideal interactions with the locals while house-hunting over there.

Living in the perimeter was important to us, as was diversity. While we know we are part of a larger trend that's changing the demographics of the area, we don't see ourselves as symbols or agents of change. We just want to be good neighbors that pay our taxes, pick up after our dog, and support the many local businesses in the surrounding areas. We're hoping ATL will continue to treat us well!

Welcome and I apologize for the traffic in advance.

What would be the cheapest way to live in Atlanta ? Get roommates or is a studio cheap enough?

Depends on where you are looking to live? Buckhead, Midtown, West Midtown? Prices are higher of course near hot spots mentioned.

1BR starts anywhere from $1100-1400+; again just depends on part of the city. You could look into a small studio or loft for $800-1k or so.

Plus if you're willing to live outside the perimeter (some of which is along the MARTA rail), you can get some very nice rentals for a lot less than this.

You guys think it's easy to find a job in Atlanta? College student with no skills

I think it's really going to depend on the job and whether you mean before or after you have your degree. The job market in the US in general is significantly better than it was 6-7 years ago, but still not incredible.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Development cost: $1.5 billion

Upfront taxpayer commitment: $200 million bond financing

Sources of public funding: A portion of city hotel-motel tax revenue

Expected long-term public costs: Estimated $700 million-plus, including interest and maintenance costs

Team costs: $1.3 billion, plus interest and other expenses. The Falcons are financing their portion through team equity, debt, a loan from the NFL, naming rights and other sponsorships and the sale of personal seat licenses

Team commitments: 30-year lease, $15 million for community redevelopment, millions more for infrastructure, and minority- and women-owned business commitments

SunTrust Park

Development cost: $672 million

Upfront taxpayer commitment: $376 million in construction bonds and financing charges, with the Braves paying a portion of annual debt for 30 years.

Sources of public funding: Current hotel-motel tax revenue, a new lodging fee for a bus system, a rental car fee, a Cumberland district tax that raises the millage rate on businesses and apartments near Cumberland Mall and a portion of property taxes currently going to service the debt on parks bonds.

Expected long-term public costs: More than $500 million including interest and $35 million in capital maintenance over 30 years, plus certain transportation improvements.

Team costs: The Braves are providing $280 million up front in equity and financing, and the team will pay $6.1 million per year for 30 years toward stadium bonds issued by the county totaling more than $180 million. The Braves also have sold naming rights and other sponsorships.

Team commitments: A 30-year lease at SunTrust Park. The Braves and its development partners are fully funding construction of the $550 million Battery Atlanta mixed-use project. The combined project is valued at more than $1.2 billion.

Philips Arena

Projected renovation cost: $192.5 million

Upfront taxpayer commitment: $142.5 million

Sources of public funding: An extension of the city’s rental car tax, approved by state lawmakers earlier this year, and proceeds from Turner Field and other expected city land sales. A ticket surcharge for long-term maintenance costs.

Expected long-term public costs: Interest and other long-term expenses not immediately known.

Team costs: $50 million upfront, annual payments of $5.9 million starting in 2029, totaling more than $100 million. The team controls the naming rights revenue. The deal with Philips ends in 2019.

Team commitments: 18-year lease extension, minority- and women-owned business commitments and $200 million break-up fee for early termination of the lease.

When I was attending Georgia state, the would close off streets for shooting and stuff like that. There's a lot of open casting calls. As far as seeing celebrities, I haven't ran across any lol. That was a few years ago however.

So is it pretty much confirmed that the Opportunity School district/Amendment 1 is just a way Nathan Deal can give his old buddies sweet government contracts?

Pretty much. Rather than put money to troubled school he wants to lump them all together and have charter schools take over.

Had an interview in Atlanta this past week in the Midtown area and really liked my time there. Don't know about the results yet but I definitely wouldn't be opposed to starting my career there.

Georgia State University on Wednesday unveiled renderings of what it plans to do at Turner Field.

In a presentation to the state Board of Regents, Georgia State officials showed off what the stadium could look like as the new home for Panthers football. The project, to be completed in multiple phases, will create a new seating bowl initially with 23,000 seats with future plans for 10,000 additional seats. The school also is seeking naming rights partners.

The regents approved the project Wednesday.

Georgia State wants to spend $52.8 million, mostly from proceeds from its bookstore, parking operations, housing and other sources, to buy and renovate Turner Field and nearby properties.

The downtown university and a private development team led by Atlanta-based Carter came to terms in August to buy Turner Field for $30 million by the end of the year. The partners have proposed a $300 million development that includes a mix of housing, classroom space, retail and other uses outside the stadium.

Turner Field also could include space for the university’s hospitality school.

Georgia State launched a new website on Wednesday with details about the Turner Field project, including a plan for a new Panthers baseball field on the site of the former Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. The school said the Olympic cauldron will remain on site.

All the time. I live in Decatur and work in Buckhead and seem to see at least 1 filming (tv and movies) a week just driving between the two. Yellow signs everywhere. just saw Finding Steve McQueen at the local market last week. Halt and Catch Fire seems to have been shooting here for a few years straight. It's kind of cool but can get in the way quite often.

Lots of jobs but not sure how hard it is to get one. Those who seem to get work seem to work on everything (when not doing Walking Dead).

Was raking the leaves off the ground and dust was coming up from where my grass used to be. Didn't mow, because last time it was a recreation of Mad Max.

You can see the haze in the air, particularly right now, but no smoke smell here in Cobb.

A friend of mine works doing set dressing, and I've got a couple of other friends who do prop construction and makeup. They work pretty steadily.

As others have said, there's a ton of casting calls for extras. For anything else, though, you're probably looking at needing a membership in the appropriate union.

I was at Hudson Grille in Midtown Saturday night watching UFC. The Black Panther himself, Chadwick Boseman was in the house sitting a few tables from me. So it happens.

It was smoky in South GA last night, but it's clear today. Not sure if it was North GA fires or if someone was burning something here.

I'm extremely proud of our city for putting on a spectacular protest march last night calling for Trump to denounce the hateful rhetoric of his campaign and the people he inflamed to commit acts of hatred in his name. So many people showed up to share their love and let us know that we are not alone right now and we have a future of progress and tolerance ahead of us.

Throughout the entire march, no one acted out, there were no arrests or intimidators, and the APD did a fantastic job of letting us do our thing. They escorted us the entire way, were very considerate of our freedoms and kept us safe and sound. Atlanta showed that we can organize and be heard without resorting to rage, violence or anarchy.

The organizers of the march, Motley Rose are a small but passionate group of people who are driven to bring as many Atlanta area liberals together to preach love and acceptance and stand up for our rights. I recommend anyone who is interested in organizing and standing up to discriminatory legislation in GA and the country, to reach out and volunteer if possible or at least join us for the next event.
