Because it's easier(to animate).

Well it's not really animation if they're just dragging still images across background of CG trees and adding motion lines. I know they've been doing this the entire arc and I'm only just pointing it out as the arc ends but I couldn't let it slip past me without saying something.
Because that would detract from the storytelling and be in the way visually? I haven't seen them eating much either, why haven't they starved to death?
That's a weird argument. For starters, we've seen these characters eat quite frequently (some of them in a semi-pornographic manner) and far more importantly the act of eating wouldn't naturally occur in an action sequence (discounting Titans munching on humans).

Meanwhile being pulled by or swinging with your maneuver gear is going to form a pretty core basis of every action sequence so it's really bizarre when the characters suddenly get tethers of apparently infinite length and range that allow them to float forward perpetually without further movement on their part just so that they can have extra-long shounen conversations which only kind of make sense in the magical time dilation of manga but make no-sense in real time animation.
Levi's Sonic spindash blew my mind. So much sadness overall though. Actually looking forward to seeing the story progress in the next episode.
That actually kind of terrifies me because, for the most part, all the worst parts of the show occur when there's no action because all that's left is the story and thin characters.

Attack On Titan 22

This episode makes the excellent writing of the series really shine, while reading the manga it was hard to notice all the powerful moments behind all the muddy art.

Anyone else notice how they really like to put the blood splatters around people's eyes in dramatic fashion? That just mysteriously cuts in and out in different scenes?

So fucking slow. And they had to just let the narrator tell the audience that Erwin was sent to the capital and Eren's going to be handed over.

Levi's moves though.

Last I heard, I was entitled to an opinion. This whole female titan arc was executed sluggishly and dragged too long for its own good.

But hey, I respect your opinion in disagreeing with me.

Might as well wait for the episodes to pile up then.

And the whole narration got me hard when they said "Handing Eren over"

You know this show would've been a lot shorter if they didn't concentrate so much on making high tech spider man gear and instead developed planes and better guns and shit.

I mean, the tech age of this society is pretty retro, and yet they got amazing jet powered engine thingamajigs that can propel ropes into trees and stuff. It's pretty damn cool though.

If the last few episodes have taught me anything it's that when people use maneuver gear in a forest all you have to do is fire it once and then you can simply float forward forever on a nearly invisible thread allowing you to have lengthy conversations about whatever happens to be on your mind.

It's basically the same shit in Naruto when they are "tree-hopping" through a forest. It's not as bad as that show though.

I'm not too sure planes or better guns would actually be better against titans than what they're using now (especially not planes).

So I just found this on tumblr. Spoilers if you don't want to know the tone of Episodes 21 and 22 I guess?

Absolutely heartbreaking. All those moments just... god damn, what a downer episode.

Extremely tempted to read the manga now. STAY STRONG, DISSY.

They should just pollute so much that they block of the Sun with smog.
What they should do is just focus on developing Sniper Rifles. Just sit in some tree/building and pierce through Titan's weakpoints. Safe and it's easier to snipe a titan than a man.

Except you'd be aiming for a man anyway, inside a titan! And moving at several times the pace!

I think those would require vast resources, something they probably dont have a lot of inside the walls. Even less now after the fall of outer most wall.

All they'd need to do I think is just shoot at the neck a lot.

But swords are infinitely cooler.
You need to completely slice off or destroy the nape of the neck in one shot. Guns are useless against titans, even cannonfire is unreliable because you need to be precise.

Thing is the people with money in the world of AOT don't want to get outside and don't want spend a nickle on the military - also, it has been discussed to close the doors in the wall forever

It's not like all resources go toward fighting Titans - it seems like the opposite is the case

Nice expansion on the manga with the added bits (no pun intended) to the return trip.

Also, Levi is so fucking good he managed to do alone what took four elites before (
disabling the titan's eyes then slicing the legs and shoulder muscles
), but faster. Damn.

What happened in the moment where Levi landed on the female Titan's hand as Mikasa was going to attack? Thought he had injured himself or something for a second.

Also I went to check something in episode 1 and I realised that Erwin can be seen in the Survey Corps.

He rolled his ankle, but muscled through the pain like a boss. Later on in the episode, you see him wince when he gets off his horse.

I like to think of it also as the reason he stopped attacking the Female titan, he didn't want to fight her with an injury, even when she's down.

Nah, his injury wasn't the reason for him stopping - more like the realization that with their current equipment, the Female Titan's ability to recover blazingly fast and Eren's condition they have no chance to fight her at all

I mean
just watch the fight between her and Eren in Titanmode; even if it seems like he stands a chance, she only needs to do one precise move to fuck his Titan up. She's just much stronger than anybody else at this point of the show
(Episode 22 Spoilers)

A much more interesting aspect that isn't discussed here so much:
the Female Titan crying at the end of her battle with Levi and Mikasa - like, will the person inside get killed because it failed to accomplish its target?

I disagree.
His choice to just immediately retreat because they retrieved Eren is certainly a significant factor, but Levi's performance until his injury basically showed that he could have killed her then and there if he was able to fight like the beginning of the battle.

It did seem particularly bad in this episode. It's not surprising that they would skip out on the work of animating those scenes given their production problems, but that's definitely an adaptation issue too. "Talking is a free action" can work in a manga whereas anime makes the artifice of using dialogue like that obvious, to the detriment of a whole lot of shounen anime.

I think you should keep in mind that they're actually propelled by gas, and they use the cables to switch direction mid-air.

But still, it shows they aren't even bothering to animate that. Most of the time the drawn characters are kept in place while the camera pans and conspicuous 3D objects move around. I tend to not care much about shoddy animation at all, but those scenes still manage to stand out to me.

I'm the only one who thought that the preview at the end was kinda spoiler-ish? I mean at this point
is so obvious that Annie is the Bitch Titan.

Damn solid episode. Levi is one badass mofo and
seeing the corpses rolling out gave me chills to the spine.

Now I'm really interested how are they going to wrap up with only 3 episodes left. We still have to confirm who the Tofu Titan is and
what is going to happen with Eren now. Is he gonna be executed or what?

I feel kind of weird about the female titan being referred to as the bitch titan, especially since I don't recall anyone ever calling her that on the show.

I'm such an idiot. I went on an Attack on Titan wiki to refresh myself on the characters and got this entire arc spoiled for me smh. I forgot about this thread

I believe it was episode 20. I can't remember which sub group it was, but they definitely "translated" Levi calling her Bitch Titan.

So Ive been playing a drinking game lately with this rule set, no finish your drink or shots because you would be dead

Basic rules so far
Sips:
-someone stares wide eyed and blanklessly (two sips if their irises are shaking)
-Every time there is an inner monologue
-Keep drinking through the entirety of a flashback (use discretion)
-You think to yourself "Why the fuck dont they just rocket out of the way?"
-Anytime a soldier wants to run away
-Any time there is a painted still frame
-Anytime someone dies
-Anytime a titan dies

I'm pretty sure you're wrong about that one.

Oh, I just re-read the original post... Yeah, that's wrong. The 3DMG doesn't actually use the gas for propulsion, but to shoot the cables and reel them in.

The preview for Ep23 mades it seem like
Armin knows what Annie's up to, and is trying to set her up or something like that
. Anyway, it looks like the show might be slowing down now... hopefully we don't get a multi-episode trial or anything along those lines now that there's just three episodes left.

I thought "Big Bitch" just originated in tumblrs and threads like this.

I don't recall Levi or anyone ever referring to Fem Titan like that in the show.

I thought I remembered Levi explicitly calling her a bitch immediately after she called out to her buddies to eat her.

Yep, at least from the Crunchyroll subs, that's exactly what he calls her. Though, it's not a proper name or anything.

They actually use both in the anime. They added a propulsion exhaust that wasn't there in the manga, most likely to make it easier to animate, as we've seen quite a bit lately.

Oh, really? Does it make more sense the way the anime handles with the Battle of Trost saga with the team's lack of gas dilemma and Mikasa wasting it?
