So yeah...
As a random aside, there weirdest throw away gag in Attack on Titan episode 3 was definitely the Evangelion reference. Just bizarre:

You don't have to use exactly the same positioning and angle as the original scene to pay visual homage to something. Hell, Potato Girl even mimics the noise that Evangelion Unit-1 makes in that seen, see here:

vs

It's surprisingly specific!
also in first episode kinda:

What about:

While we're on the subject of Evangelion/Attack on Titan it occurs to me that the Aromoured Titan sequence bears some striking similarities to the running EVA sequence in Evangelion episode 12:

I fear that I'll be enjoying this series for the wrong reason as I attempt to spot Eva parallels in every scene.

What about the stairs shot and the one holding the person up?

Okay, I'll admit I was wrong. My recollection was bad so I went and look and most of that wasn't there. Way more emphasize on the armor titan in the anime. I've seen the same "foot shot" in a lot of Gundam shows and other mecha shows to be fair.

Ok seriously how was I: a fucking huge Kaiju and Giant Monster movie fan, never made aware of this series's existence prior to the anime releasing? I'm honestly alittle salty.. . Jesus nothing has even remotely come close to scratching this itch since shit. . . the original Gojira or Evangelion for me. I showed the first 3 episodes to very casual anime fans(Naruto,DBZ, etc...) and they fucking loved it. I also converted them to JoJo.

I like to think I'm doing the god's work.

Yeah, this one is fucking amazing. I was just about to link it.

This is true, Kei Kurono is hardened and ready. He has taken on arguably more vicious things based on my knowledge of both series.

http://www.crunchyroll.ca/anime-news/2013/04/22/attack-on-titan-anime-studio-needs-more-animators

WIT STUDIO's Kyoji Asano, the character designer and chief animation director of the on-going TV anime adaptation of Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan manga, tweeted on April 22nd that his company was looking for animators who were interested in the production of the anime. He tweeted, "Is there any active animator who is interested in the Attack on Titan anime? If you are, please make contact with WIT STUDIO. Please lend us your strength, everyone. m(_ _)m Any help would be appreciated."

It is very rare for Japanese anime studio to make this kind of job announcement for the on-going series to the public. Some fans speculate that the studio is suffering from a serious shortage of creators now. Considering its unique animation style, it's not much of a surprise. They are looking for experienced animators who can work as animation director, key animator, and in-between animator. If you are an active animator and interested in the project, make contact with info_wit@production-ig.co.jp

I hope they get the animators they need. The manga is great. The way the last episode was animated was acceptable, but proceeding events will definitely need some decent animators behind them.

Damn...guess those action sequences must require alot of work to get it right.

I hope they'll managed to pull it off. I'd hate to see something similar to Naruto-Sasuke fight happens again...<shudder>

What's a good anime related website that tells me when episodes air and has episode guides, reviews, etc? Basically an IMDB or TV.com for anime...

My google results are filled with links to dodgy streams and terrible websites that offer very little info.

Well, are you fine with it ending with a ton of stuff unresolved? Because that's what is likely to happen. There's really no good stopping point for what's happened in the manga so far, so it may even end on a cliffhanger.

Nothing will be unresolved, that's what the manga is for. I just don't want this to turn into a mega series with tons of filler.

Excuse me, but what exactly is two-cours? I've tried to look it up, but does it mean 26 episodes and the show is done forever (similar to Cowboy Bebop), or that one season (of which there will be multiple) is 26 episodes?

I unfortunately don't have time (with work, school, fiance, etc.) to fit in another show to catch up on if the definitive end isn't in sight, so to speak. If it is going to be multiple seasons, I'll probably pick up the Bluray down the line.

Thanks :)

EDIT: Okay, I do apologize. Funimation was for some reason blocked at my work, but on my phone I can see that it says 25-episode series.

A "cour" means around 12-13 episodes. So two-cours = 25-26 episodes.

Two cours is what you say it is, however Attack on Titan differs from Cowboy Bebop because AoT is an adaptation, and its source material (a manga) is still ongoing. There is a chance that the current anime will end and then a follow-up anime will appear some years down the line, but for now it is 25-6 episodes.

To be more precise (and possibly annoying, sorry!), it's "cours", and it's a three month period of TV programming. So, for a weekly show, that does mean around 12 or 13 episodes, indeed.

Oh I thought cours was the plural :lol

this is pretty cool.

Just out of curiosity, would you folks call this series a deconstruction of Kaiju? It seems to fit pretty well into the "Monsters attack population center" premise but the extremely horrific elements does seem far more realistic on what one would have to live with if giant monsters was a fact of life.

Watched the three released episodes, yesterday.

Was never an anime fan but I thought I would check it out based on this thread. Thought the concept was interesting.

Didn't love it.
The main character's voice is annoying and over the top. Had to turn off the sound several times.
Also felt a lot of what happened could have been cut and compressed, even within three episodes they have repeated themselves.

I'll keep watching for a few more episodes, might just not be for me.

Check out Suisei no Gargantia, it managed to pleasantly surprise me way more than Titan.

Bear in mind this runs weekly, some repeated stuff I can understand might be recaps.

If you're not so open to the anime with its additions of voices and whatnot, you can try the manga.

No, sorry, didn't mean recaps - just felt many of the conversations were redundant.
Will check out the manga, I see there is an English translation available of the first four chapters.

Read the wikipedia entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gargantia_on_the_Verdurous_Planet seems like it has a lot of anime tropes - teenage hero, robot fighting suits, etc.

Still will check it out.
Thanks for recommendation.

Teenage hero, who is acting like a responsible adult [he did not crack a single smile in first 3 episodes] and a robot fighting suit, which is self aware and is acting like a even more responsible adult.

Nothing of those anime tropes is portrayed as you thought it is.
