Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.... followed by the inaguration of Barack Obama as President of these United States of America?

On behalf of Mexican-American-GAF.... Congratulations.

*high five*

I promise to celebrate as if though Pancho Villa himself was taking office!

I'll be the first Hispanic president!

Seems like this is gonna be a big show for the next couple of days.

Yep...Gonna have my brother stay home and watch this. I wonder if high schools around the country are gonna stop classes for this?

I remember we stopped for the OJ verdict. This might quite possibly be on the same level.

I got it sweet this week, I don't have class, after 3:00 today, until next Wednesday.

OJ VERDICT:

I was in a class for gifted students when they showed the verdict. (roughly 9 years old) We all reasoned that although OJ probably did it, due to the jury selection and the fallout from the Rodney King trial, OJ would be acquitted. haha. However, I bet in a normal classroom setting, the reactions would be very very different depending on the demographics of the classroom. Just out of curiosity, does anybody who was in a majority black classroom or someone who was in a majority white classroom when the verdict was read care to share what the reaction was like? I'm a little curious.

Just thinking about about how silly "African" seems. Imagine calling white folk "European" Americans.

Anyways,

People are people, and I think America will be better off come January 20th onward.

No work for me on either days, and no school on MLK day. Party time!

I went to a fairly Black dominated elementary school in Pittsburgh but I was only 7 at the time and I don't recall discussing the case in class. I do remember some random White guy telling my dad "You know he did it!" in a grocery store line :lol

Cant wait, its going to be a really great week. Although I'm more excited about what he may be able to accomplish rather than him happening to have the same color skin I do, but its all good. Get excited! And I pray he can accomplish a great deal of what those of us who voted for him expect of him.

Just know, rednecks are the bane of our race. We have to claim them, but we don't want to be held responsible as a group for what they do.

Skip class. You'll be witnessing history, not simply reading about it.

Also, even if it's not history, you can still borrow someone's notes?

He's not a redneck for saying OJ did it. OJ did do it, lol.

Most black people I've discussed it with also believe he did it.

The OJ verdict was being announced right as the bell for the end of class rang and nobody moved. Pretty much everybody was milling about 1/2hour afterward. Even the teachers were surprisingly cool. I was lucky to go to a good HS. I have no doubt they'll at the very least be watching it on TV.

Well, let me put it this way: Yelling to a black guy you don't know in a public place "You know he did it," thus presuming that as a black man, he must think a certain way about something is typical redneck shit.

are you seriously suggesting because he was a white guy suggesting OJ did it (didn't he? :lol ), he's a redneck?

Walking up to a random guy in a grocery store with his 6-7 year old son and yelling crap like that is beyond fucked up.

Movin' on up to the east side(the white hous really is on the east side lol) we've(you've;they've) finally got a piece of the pie!

On behalf of British-GAF, I'd like to congratulate Americans for electing another white president.

Yeah, it works both ways.

Yeah, not really. Besides, this is between Americans. Keep your opinions to your side of the Atlantic...
