I'm going to have my beer and my white woman at the ready on Tuesday. Kick back and watch that shit in HDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD! Then I'm going to text 14000 of my closest friends BOI!

I'm more excited with what he plans to do than the color of his skin, but it is historic.

The down side though, is that now I can never be the first black president of the US

Why not? To be totally fair, I'd like to congratulate bi-racial GAF most of all.

Because it doesn't work both ways? If Obama was wanted for a crime and the police were looking for him, they wouldn't put out an alert going "Be on the look out for a white and/or bi-racial male in his 40s". Being black/identifying yourself as black in America has more to do with how you are viewed and treated as opposed to your actual racial background.

Yeah, it works both ways.
Not so much. And PD, mind if we go WW hunting together?

On behalf of Mexican-American-GAF.... Congratulations.

I promise to celebrate as if though Pancho Villa himself was taking office!

If only these events would inspire young black men to respect life more. Living in Chicago it seems like the only thing young black men care about is money, fake respect, and being deadbeat dads to the young girls they get pregnant.

I got it sweet this week, I don't have class, after 3:00 today, until next Wednesday.

OJ VERDICT:

I was in a class for gifted students when they showed the verdict. (roughly 9 years old) We all reasoned that although OJ probably did it, due to the jury selection and the fallout from the Rodney King trial, OJ would be acquitted. haha. However, I bet in a normal classroom setting, the reactions would be very very different depending on the demographics of the classroom. Just out of curiosity, does anybody who was in a majority black classroom or someone who was in a majority white classroom when the verdict was read care to share what the reaction was like? I'm a little curious.

I was working at the time... managing a restaurant and after the verdict I made all OJ drinks half-price for the night. Pissed off more than a few folks :D

As for Obama:

I am happy, and proud and off work. I hope for the best for his presidency but he has a lot of major crises to deal with. Can't be too much worse than Dubya though.

It's ok for black folks to call out other black folks.

But if I, a white man, were to mention 1 in 10 black men (or have been?) incarcerated and mentioned that %90(?) of black children are born to a single mother, that would make me a?

I thought it was 50 percent of black youth born to single mothers.

Regardless, I hope Obama becomes a successful role model for black American youth. Not enough mainstream examples of black success-through-education.

It would depend on the context it was brought up. Also 90% is going a bit overboard.

Thread derail-er with an incorrect statistic?

Moving right along...hopefully after he's officially the new president many of the Obama hate mongers questioning his birth certificate, Christianity, and sexuality will just realize it's over and accept reality.

I was just going by the top of m head, hence I made sure to provide such with the (?). I do remember the statistics being bad enough for a holy shit what and what the hell is wrong with culture to pop into my head.

It is too bad Richardson wasn't chosen as VP.

It would have been perfect.

The inauguration of a black President also means you don't have to call me African-American anymore.

An asshole who pulled a bullshit stat (see: 90%) out of his ass?

HAPPY MLK DAY!!!!

i can't believe i have to work on Tuesday and am going to miss the inauguration. After 400 years of oppression i should at least have the right to take some time off work to see a black man sworn in as president.

My government teacher is allowing any of his students to go to his class and watch live on a projector screen. In high school, any class with a working TV, laptop, whatever, will probably be watching.

Yes, it's a big problem, but you were almost 25% off. :lol

Those statistics where from 1998, and I sincerely remember hearing recently the percentage was that high. But, oh well, how horrible it is that I was wrong despite the statistics being for the better.

Anyone else see the obscene amount of News pieces bluntly saying the Obama may save black culture? Where they compare some raper as a cultural icon and show kids with their pants down to their knees then Obama.

Because race is sociological there is no such thing as half of anything being considered white. Half-asian americans are considered asian and half latinos are considered to be be latinos. If you didn't know Obama's history you would consider him to be pure black not bi-racial.

Anyway let us relish in the significance of this event.

This is a Norman Rockwell painting of Ruby Bridges ...
... the little black girl who had to be escorted to school by federal marshals. "On November 14, 1960, nearly 48 years ago, Bridges faced hostile crowds as the first black child to attend a previously all-white New Orleans school. She was 6 years old and had only been told by her mother that she was going to be attending a new school that day and 'had better behave.' Little did she know that she would be bombarded with jeers and even death threats, and that she would end up being the sole child in her first grade class after other children were kept home by their parents." All because Ruby was Black.

48 years later -- January 5, 2009 -- here is a picture of Sasha Obama, a little 7 year old Black girl, being escorted to school by her mother, First Lady-elect Michelle Obama, and the Secret Service because Sasha's daddy is now President-elect of the United States, Barack Obama.

Let me just say this,

I got a fortified compound with a bunch of equally fortified neighbors, some even more so, on a mountain on the outskirts of a very isolated and bigoted town in the Ozark mountains. Did I mention us fools on the hill have enough ammunition to stop the Chinese, with land to grow and live stock to slaughter.

I look forward to the Anarchy that is to come, the worlds greatest I told you so unless the evangelicals get their rapture.

Just so you guys are aware.

You're right about race being a sociological construct but there are actually quite a bit of half- Asian and Latino people that are accepted as white.

An behalf of British Black Gaf I would like to say, Sorry about that whole "Black" Doctor Who thingy.

Coolio might win Celebrity Big Brother though......We're catching up slowly but surely.

This, I'm on-board with.

Why couldn't you have Johnson as your president? He's much, much blacker than Obama.

Out of curiousity has it been mentioned much in the USA that Obama isn't african american in the sense that most african americans associate with?

I mean from my perspective as a smelly Irish man, Obama is an African American, whilst most americans who say they are african american, or irish american (seems to be more on saint patrick day) or any other prefix are basically just american, having no longer any links to a country far back in their ancestry. Obama on the other hand has an american parents and an african one so he's a "proper" African - American.

I get the feeling some intelligent (lol) racists have used that logic to accept Obama as president. He's black but he's not black black as it were.
