No lies detected. I got a Gensis as a present for suffering through chicken pox and I remember playing Sonic 2 for like a couple hours and then never again. I also borrowed a friend's Sonic & Knuckles and I came nowhere close to finishing that either. It just never clicked with me.

I did buy Sonic Generations for $10 and enjoyed it though. But compared to even the worst mainline Mario games Mario shits all over Sonic.

Sonic Mania is a lot more than a nostalgia cash in. Even the remade stages do completely new things, are super creative and play with your expectations introducing entirely new mechanics.

I do fear that Mario Odyssey will lose a lot of what the 3D games have shine at from Galaxy onwards. Mario is best when it's a linear obstacle course. Never liked the open collectathon bullshit. That's not Mario to me.

With that said the hat gimmick does seem fun so it should be a good time if it doesn't fall too hard in to the open world trap.
