Oh, of course he did! Do you know if it was recorded/streamed?
I think some panels were streamed but i don't know for sure whether any recordings are up. I didn't think pax did that.

It was actually kinda funny/sad more than anything else that the guy asks a bunch of academics "but why isn't Sean Murray saying anything" like they would know. Or care.

I found the stream, it's definitely up there on the PAX2 channel.

Skipped to that bit and heard the question. Real-life redditors are both hilarious and sad, and I bet that audience had more than its fair share of them.

The festival was awesome! Definitely will be going to more in the future. Thanks for the tips!

rip me this morning tho

Did anyone see the discussion at PAX of the No Man's Sky debacle?

That would've been great to see, would anyone have uploaded anything of it to YouTube?

Yep it was a great panel. They were three academics in various game design related areas and they deconstructed the game itself and then the response to the game. It wasn't just a whinge fest (except when the bloody "I'm from reddit" guy got on the question mic...)
Yeah I got up and left when question time started lol

but ever so delicious
After being ditched by you nerds last night I went and watched Dr strange at crown along with losing $50 at the casino.

What an odd movie, well the ending was odd in that I didn't expect it to end that way. It's not a good or a bad thing, it's just a thing right now in my mind. Aside from that I don't remember much else about the film, stuff happens and more stuff then at ends. That's my hot review.

yeah the structure is really weird in that movie but the timing at least is right (that is it ended just before I got bored)

Pax,the event that no one asked for and that no one really wants.

I've never been a fan of the event and this year's didn't change my mind. As an event for viewing and consuming video games it just doesn't do it very well, however I imagine that every other Expo is the same. The stand in a line for an hour and play this game for 10 minutes seems like a waste of everyone's time.

They had 10 booths for ff15, which is a good improvement over previous years but it didn't seem to help with the issue of line times.

There did seem to be a lot of cosplay this year as well, it felt like 20% of the people walking around were in some form of costume. Some where outstanding while others were clearly done by a lazy person. Throwing on a tank top and short shorts doesn't make you Lara croft... Or maybe it does?

Pax Australia 2016 rating: I need to reevaluate my life and it's choices / 10.

So my PS4 is really shitting me off with it's constant disc ejecting beeping shit. I took the little leg off under the eject button, but it didn't do anything.

Luckily, I had the foresight to get an extended warranty from JB (see: every console from near launch I've ever owned breaking!). It's a replacement warranty, but I assume they only have Slim's now. My question is, can I use the replacement warranty and pony up a bit of cash for a Pro? Does it work like this? I have no idea.

I doubt it. Hell I'd think they would fix it instead. I know for my PS4 with JB extended warranty they repaired it, though I had a different issue (on mine they had to replace a board that handled the power supply).

First time I've ever bought an extended warranty, and that was only due to the first batch of US PS4s having issues.

When I dealt with this through JB they gave store credit equal to the value of the PS4, and I paid an extra $50 to get a 1TB PS4 instead of the 500GB one that died. Can't see why you wouldn't be able to do the same thing to get a pro.

Ive had this issue on my launch PS4. What seemed to work best for me was to power down rather completely most of the time rather than putting into rest mode (though if the machines powers down on its own through inactivity, it seems to be ok). Once or twice I tried twisting the screw that's often mentioned (this is really tricky to do and needs a tiny screwdriver). Haven't had the problem at all this year.

That said, I have a pro coming this week :) Even better, Amazon just sent me an email that will get me dishounoured 2 for 20 pounds. win/win

I finished the Titanfall 2 campaign yesterday. Fucking amazing. Only complaint is its a little short. 'Fucking amazing' means its up there with CoD 4, Half Life 2, Halo 3 in terms of amazing single player campaigns.

I say this as a guy who has said TF1 was his game of the generation so far but hasn't loved TF2 multiplayer.

anyone see the esports panel?
It'll be on Twitch :) Wombat panels are on PAX2.

If it's an original one, I had the same issue. There's a screw that adjusts the disc eject thingy, that just has to be tightened. Mine did it for a few months, that fix kinda seemed to work, then it stopped and hasn't done it for ages.

That would be perfect! Hopefully I can get them to do this.

See, the thing is, I shouldn't have to dick around to get the machine working (especially when it might just be temporary fix). It's from 2014, so before they introduced proper buttons instead of pressure sensitive buttons. I read up on it a bit, and apparently it's from heat setting the buttons off? Either way new machine > old machine.

If they try and refurb it I'll tell them to get stuffed, and that my warranty specifically states item replacement.

I'm pretty sure that's only if it's irrepairable.

It says in the agreement that "Replacement Cover plans provide a one-off replacement of your purchase and commence 12 months after the date of purchase, or upon expiry of the original manufacturers warranty, whichever is later".

It seems pretty cut and dry!

Three days of PAX done and damn, I am even more sad I missed the last two years. Still, had a blast, caught up with a bunch of folks and met a bunch more folks too. Mechs vs Minions was a fun little riff on the Roborally idea, so glad I got to play it again.

So many great panel discussions, some cool game demos and much gaming. Looking forward to next year, hopefully with some cosplay action with my daughter and her friends. Apparently there were even more Undertale cosplayers beyond the two I saw, shame I didn't see them.

Finished up my time there (had to leave at 3pm) spectating an edible wargame - was an absolute hoot :)

Edit: I have to add: I wish it was longer, there was so many people I only had a chance to just say a brief "hi!" to and nothing more :-(

Not useful information if it's under warranty anyway, but there's also a contact that you can scratch slightly to make it less sensitive, or if you get really fed up you can actually disconnect the eject button entirely (and instead eject your discs using the PS4 UI). I haven't had the problem but have helped some friends who did (and whose consoles weren't under warranty any more).

I agree, you absolutely shouldn't have to. The second step here is what I followed and that seemed to have fixed it fine. And didn't involve voiding the warranty :)

Does anyone have any experience with "snake proofing" your backyard?

A house close to us recently had both their dogs killed by a brown snake, this has made us extremely worried about our dogs safety.

We looked into those snake repellent sticks that cause the earth to vibrate but there seems to be a 50/50 split on whether they actually work or not.
Some people also recommend snake netting which looks alright but wouldn't this increase the risk if a snake actually gets caught and the dogs go to check it out?

I get where you're coming from - the cynical view of these sorts of events is that they're just crammed full of businesses selling crap at RRP, and you've already paid for entry. Not only that, everything has queues (the merch stall had a queue until 16:00 when I went on Friday; only died down when everything good was gone), and it's stuff you could play in a month anyway so why wait an hour just for that?

But, a different view is that you get to spend the day with friends geeking out about something you love. There's plenty of great stuff going on outside the exhibition hall (though why you'd want to play D&D in that sort of environment is beyond me), although every year I love wasting time in the indie section best. You can learn a new board game (or play ones in development!), or even have a crack at a new hobby if you like (wargames, pinball, etc).

It's really all about mindset and what you make of it. Personally, I didn't wait in any line for a 10 minute turn of a game. The games I tried last year almost all ended up being shit anyway.

I have a six year old niece who's currently obsessed with watching minecraft videos on YouTube. For Christmas she's asked Santa for an XBOne so she can play it.

I was going to trade in my PS4 for a PS4 Pro, but now I'm thinking I'll keep the old unit as well and give it to my niece.

My question here is this: what do you all think about young kids and videogames in general? I worry that my niece already spends too much time hunched over her mum's phone playing games, so I'm not sure if giving her a PS4 is really the right thing to do.

Of course I'm being a total hypocrite here, because I was obsessed with videogames from a very young age myself.

How do those of you with young kids manage their gaming habits?

Do it!!!! She'll love you for ever. Even better would be to get her a PC, and make her construct it (or at a minimum help you construct it.) Minecraft can run on a pretty cheap PC these days. And then MODS. Magical creature mods. Pokemanz mods. And so on.

My daughter and I bond over video games (amongst other things, to be sure), and Minecraft is one of them. She gets plenty of non-video-game time at her mum's house :-D

She built her PC about three years ago (so she was about 8 or 9 at the time).

I do find though that on the school hols if we're having a gaming day I do force us both to get the hell up and out of the house every now and then.

A great PAX weekend from my end, I found that I went to more comedy based panels than actual gaming panels. Guess that's the aspiring comic in me. Also made me want to get started on my Twitch/Youtube project even more.

Picked up a new Dell laptop today, which is a rather expensive way to cure a Pax hanover...

It's up to the parents to manage her time, but at 6 she already has enough random stuff she likes to do that introducing the PS4 isn't going to be much different for them. Redirecting kids to something else from what they're currently focussed on is daily life with a kid. My son has gotten pretty hooked on various games, and sometimes it can be hard pulling him away from one when he's in the zone, but it's the same for youtube or his bike or trains or whatever. Overall I think it will be a positive for her. And I bet after 6 months or so she will still spend just as much time on youtube as she does the game itself.

I think its fine to give kids some gaming time, but everything needs to be in moderation. It's not great if they get addicted and not want to enjoy other activities like reading or playing outside.

I'm actually kind of glad my 3 year old doesn't have a long enough attention span right now to be interested in games. :)

I watched the original Black Dynamite movie on Netflix last night. For reasons, I never got around to watching it sooner. It's pretty good. The thing that struck out to me was all of the music was from stock libraries (used by lots of TV shows at the time. Library music is where programme and ad makers get cheap, ready-made music from- like Getty Images for music). There's one track towards the end that was very familiar to Aussie TV viewers of a certain age, the theme from an old Channel 7 drama called Cop Shop.

Seems weird a flagship drama wouldn't spring for its own tune but it wasn't totally uncommon. The Channel 9 cricket theme that's been going for years was also the theme tune to Bluey (the donor series slightly younger Aussies remember from The Late Show's Bargearse, which had different library music. But then, the Late Show theme was also library music, which is why the compilations have different library music which was probably cheaper).

Ugh. Coming out of Pax, I want an Alienware Alpha so bad. :/

Trump [...] gracefully concede.

:lol

If Trump loses he will rail against the result and damage public perception of democracy. If Trump wins he will weaken democracy from the inside. The result doesn't matter, America was fucked when he won the nomination. The only thing that might save it is if he loses very badly and the Republicans band together against him. They couldn't stop him getting the nomination, so that seems unlikely, but what do I know.

Pretty much. The damage is already done, it's just that more damage can occur if he gets into power.

The guy should've been cut out/burned off when he first appeared, just like the fucking cancer that he is.
