KATAWA SHOUJO IS ALL THE GAMES I'M PLAYING

And Dark Souls I guess

Katawa Shoujo is seriously great though. It's drawing tiemz

I'd rather serve in greece than in singapore....... its like sleeping in a rice cooker :)

It's in Cyprus though, not Greece. Not as nice, not as economically fucked. We can't drink the water cos of radiation! :D Plus we arent allowed one half of the country without a Turkish escort otherwise we'd get beaten and dead

I think I would be on the phone every day to someone to find out what was on sale and to buy it for me. I'm an addict.
I went away for 5 days over Christmas, but luckily I had mobile reception so checked Steam sales every day.
And still didn't buy anything whatsoever

Something like that?

Yep, pretty much.

I had some sketchy 3G coverage but thought it would be good to avoid the steam sales.

Been playing heaps of boardgames though (Cargo Noir, Citadels, Agricola) and reading a lot.

End result it that I've kinda lost interest in video games *gasp*

Ban: Any of those games wife friendly? Always figured I would pick up Agricola at some point due to the overwhleming praise it gets, just I don't know many actual real people that play it.

That's disgusting.

I'm sorry :(

Do I have to turn in my badge?

I’ve played all three of them with my other half... She loves Cargo Noir, probably cos she really enjoys the bidding aspect (and the screwing me over aspect).
She also loves Citadels, which we both found really simple to learn (it is more fun with extra players but still plays well with only 2).

We only played Agricola last night for the first time (with one other person) and it was a lot to take in at first, but after a couple of games we got the hang of it. It is a relatively short game (maybe an hour and a bit with 3 players) and there is a lot of room for different strategies. Like similar games it seems a bit daunting at first but once you get your head around the rules it is actually quite simple (and heaps of fun). Also the base game comes with a crapload of cards for more advanced gameplay, seems like there will be a lot of replay value.

maybe not then :p

the only real regional conflicts singapore has had in recent time is malaysia hogging all the water.

ps:I haven't really played the other megami tensei series but devil survivor is probably the hardest game I've ever touched.

It took every ounce of effort to get past day six without gamefaqs..... and then on day seven....

fuck this shit o.o

Same boat as me man. After playing some PnP RPGs, board, and card games I have no desire to play video games at all.

Citadels sounds like fun? What are your thoughts on it?

Card games that I've really enjoyed are Dominion and Munchkin, looking at picking up The Resistance.

I've only really played the Arkham Horror board game, but damn is it a good time!

By the way, Shan, I had no idea that Korean characters weren't actually kanji but rather comprised of a kind of alphabet. Heck, that seems easier to learn than Japanese.

This story is amazing. I wondered if the appeals board are served wine and cheese while hearing cases. There is more at the link, though I can't quite work out this writer at the appeals board. Frustrated writer who reluctantly took the job venting some creative turn of phrase? perhaps a naive women enamored by tiny letting her creative writing and imagination run?

The Age said:
A 2.1-metre tall Kiwi is being deported from Australia because his size makes him an "unacceptable threat to the national interest".

Hayden Harlem Tewao, 26, who weighs 200kg, had his Australian visa cancelled after he committed an armed robbery in 2010.

Tewao, who is known as "Tiny", appealed to the Australian Administrative Appeals Board which overturned the decision to deport him to New Zealand, saying he had a low risk of reoffending and had shown remorse for his crime.

Tewao was described by the Appeals Board as a "gentle" giant who paints and listens to opera.

"He is a huge man, 26 years old, with shoulders like buttresses and legs like pylons. His hands, as fists, resemble demolition balls."

"He stands as if in apology for the space he takes up. His head is often bowed as he holds his massive hands clasped loosely in front of him. His speech is tentative and his voice soft. He is said to be mildly intellectually disabled, but his words occasionally catch his thoughts and form a comment so insightful or a connection so nimble that one must play the words over to be sure they were his."

The board was obviously impressed with him, waxing lyrical that: "when he recedes into the chasm between thought and vocabulary he grinds to a frustrated and resigned halt."

"One wonders what it must be like to continually face the fearful response of those he meets and to keep that massive piece of human machinery running every day. It is sometimes hard to see the person inhabiting it and one imagines a smaller, more articulate man struggling to break out from inside the bulk, throwing bright glimpses of himself out to the world."

Yeah, and there's only 24 letters :D

(They used to use Chinese characters but those are slowly being fazed out).

maybe not then :p

My friend from Singapore had to go help out in Thailand during his service.

Yeh Citadels is highly recommended. Really easy to learn but lots of potential for strategy the more you play it. And it is pretty cheap too, well worth a purchase IMO.

Heh, yeah most smt games get pretty tough. This one has been more annoying because of the gimmicky boss battles. I actually might pick up the 3ds version later when it's cheaper to see the extra stuff.

I'm the opposite. I enjoy playing videogames (good ones) and have no time for board games.

However, looking at the detailed type sets you can get, I'd really love to give one a try. Problem is, I still dont really know anyone in WA, let alone anyone who would be regularly up for a go. :/

Cheers! It looked good on Shut Up & Sit Down, just wanted another view on it.

The Battlestar Galactica board game is a thing of beauty. So funny, so much screwage.
I have heard great things and really want to play it. Ever since seeing Fortune and Glory on the RPS blog, I really want to play that also; though being so big and only owning a motorcycle, it's difficult to cart such a large box anywhere.

Hey, there are a number of us in Sydney, like myself and Ban, what about a SydGAF trad games night? Just throwing it out there.

If you can find one other person to play with you, I'd recommend picking up Ticket to Ride. I used it as the gateway board game to get my girlfriend interested and she plays pretty much everything with me these days.

Ticket to Ride is the ultimate in gateway games.

Edit: That and Carcassonne.

I did find a good one cheap a few years ago. Six. It's just a two (or 4) person tile game. One team in red, other black, and you have hexagonal tiles. Objective is to make either a hexagon, straight line or triangle with six same colour tiles. It is a simple idea with lots of possibilities. I highly recommend it as a slightly more complex version of connect 4 plus mind games.

I'll check out ticket to ride next time I'm down the shops. I think there are a few game city stores or whatever theyre called nearby. Something with a bit of narrative or scenario is something I'd like to be able to give a go. Thanks for the suggestion in any case.

It was designed to be easy enough to 'get' in a morning, and to be able to read and write within a week. Bear in mind it was developed by scholars, but targeted at people who historically had never read or written anything in their lives.

This.

Careful, some shops are a ripoff. Games World in Chadstone (Vic) wanted over $100 for Ticket to Ride Nordic Countries, but I got it from Milsims for about $55 delivered.

Choc

Banned
seriously

A woman who says she was ordered by two men into a van while jogging north of Brisbane is disappointed police are not taking her complaint more seriously.
The 20-year-old said she was jogging when the men stopped within metres of her and demanded she get into their van on Young Road, Narangba, just after 7pm on Sunday.
She said a passing motorist pulled up behind the van, which saved her from being further harassed and possibly abducted.
Advertisement: Story continues below
Police say it was only a nuisance prank and not an abduction attempt.
"I'm disappointed and I'd like to be taken seriously," the jogger said.
"They yelled out if I wanted a lift and pointed to the back of the car so I gave them the finger."
"Then they stopped next to me and told me to get in the van."
She said the two men, aged in their 50s and driving a van with Victorian number plates, only drove off after a passing motorist started to follow them.
"A Holden Captiva pulled up behind them. If the car hadn't been there I don't know what would have happened. I'm pretty grateful," she said.
She said her dad rushed to the scene and picked her up and they then came across the van and followed it for 10km to Burpengary.
Police said they had located the van and the two men, who said they had only offered the woman a lift.

So, AusGAF - I'm coming up to the end of my magazine subscriptions, and considering dropping down to one only and not even buying any others. They take up too much room and I cant justify buying 3 regularly anymore.

Currently I get:

Edge (in shops)
Pros: well written reviews
Cons: industry focus, chasing fads/marketing hype, meaningless, boring columns full of waffle, everything is online anyway

Retro Gamer (sub)
Pros: written with passion, great features
Cons: not entirely interesting to me when covering stuff I never get into

Games TM (sub)
Pros: reviews mostly exclusive to mag, written pretty well, good features/columns
Cons: increased 'industry' focus, falls for the same marketing hype as edge/gaf

Anyone have any alternative suggestions?

Frankly I wouldn't subscribe to a gaming print magazine at all. The types of content I'd be most interested in would be in-depth long form articles, and I doubt there are any topics of sufficient interest that would run for that long.

I want this but can't imagine anything in the gaming world that would ever be interesting enough to warrant something like it.
