Holy shit, another audiophile
I'm never spending a shitload of money on a surround setup, nor am I concerned about having a fuckawesome system for my TV (which is why I haven't bought a "real" amplifier/receiver yet). Too much shit changes with technologies (HDMI, for one) for me to be concerned with trying to keep up. That, and I just don't find the detail I appreciate in any recordings that are destined for home theatres, like movies and games. Just music. That's why the PC is my audiophile focus (for production work as well as listening) with
two of these and soon, hopefully, one of
these (although, given you know your shit, you could offer an alternative suggestion for something that would match the Yamahas?).
Basically all I'm looking for is something to plug the big gaps but just well enough so I'm happy. I've dropped around $500 as of 5 years ago on what I currently have* (the Z5500s), figure that if I can spend only a few hundred more and improve the sound noticeably then that's all I ask. If I was going to be the sort who'd drop arseloads on a massive setup, I wouldn't have stuck with these Logitech fuckers for this long, trust me
It's great knowing there's someone as switched on about their sound (possibly mores) as me in this thread. May pick your brain every now and then!
In the meantime, I'll leave you with some porn, a picture of (the exact same as) my old man's home speakers (that my brother has dibs on, the bastard)... the NS-1000s:
Yup. Right down to the immaculate (the surface is baby's bottom-smooth, no hyperbole) rosewood finish
