AusGAF 9 - F*** Off, We're Full (Of People With Different Ethnic Backgrounds)

Now, thanks to that Banderas meme, I'm going to watch Assassins.
Heh, it's actually a really enjoyable movie for the first 2/3rd's. Final act falls a little flat but Stallone & Bandera have GREAT screen chemistry. Really enjoyable stuff.

I was enjoying the shit out of it until near the end where he goes into the secret lair or whatever the fuck it is. Until then it was pretty low key and restrained. After that? A generic comic book film where I didn't give a crap.
Yeah the movie was really damn good up until the end. At which point the alternate, comic book schlock ending started. Felt like a gigantic fucking reshoot after test audiences wondered where the schlock was.
Wolverine needs to smoke a cigar!
Wolverine doesn't fuck shit up enough! Moar ninjas!
Implausible nemesis that ruins the theme of honour and forgiveness through giving oneself for the greater good!
Once they quickly finish that second twist it ends okay, better than the Max Payne arc at least.
Also bewbs.
Also does Logan swear in the other movies? That moment during the interrogation when he swore was intense! Loved that scene.
Also mid-credits scene is pure SHIT JUST GOT REAL 2014 for sure. Hyped as fuck for Days of Future Past!

It is! Such a love letter to the whole nostalgic Americana 50s thing.
The most notable thing is that it's more of a movie than most movies we get these days! The characters have arcs! The plot has a beginning, a middle and an end! The themes actually tie into the story to give them strengths and direction!

I don't get the hate. I really don't. It's hardly original, it doesn't try and make you cry, it just gives you a good old feel good story that is meant to inspire people to be better.

This this this
The ending was lacklustre.

nothing too crazy. I get coffee beans sent monthly to me from a Launceston coffee group (Ritual Coffee - Tassie peeps should check them out). Then I'll do them up in an Aeropress most days or occasionally through my shitty espresso machine if I want some milk with it (or if I'm making coffee for others - aeropress is too much work for multiple cups).

I'm thinking of buying a french press soon just so I can make a few cups to last me a morning instead of just the one cup the Aeropress makes. Might make my sister get me one for xmas.

I'm not at the level of coffee wankery where I'll roast my own beans, though. That's way too much work for me.

Cool beans. (heh heh heh)
What grinder do you use?
I might get into the fresh coffee business then, aeropresses seem pretty cheap. I've got a french press laying around somewhere too.

Anyone know anything about moka pots? All I know is they look cool so I've always wanted one.

TBH I'm a mite bit offended you assumed I thought Pixar did DM and Cloudy.
Both movies are fan-fucking-tastic though dude. I would rate DM higher than anything Pixar have done in the last 6 years!

Wheres the cheapest place to get wii fit board balance?
Dick Smith had them for $25 6 months ago. Bought one for the sis-in-law, pissed we didn't get a second one!

If I see a deal I'll make sure to post it up in here.

just a cheap $200 sunbeam thing. I think after a few years the blades are starting to dull, though? Seems I get relatively coarse coffee no matter my setting.

Nothing but good words about the Aeropress. ... Except the first time I tried the "Inverted" method I spilled not-quite-boiling-hot coffee-water all over myself and the table I was making it on. And it went into the cutlery cupboard. :( spent half an hour cleaning everything before I even had the chance to make another cup.

Wasn't the best way to spend a morning.

Sweet. I'll have a look around but will probably end up just going with something like that, a cheapish burr grinder.

Aww shit, you're scaring me.

Ratatouille is the last great Pixar film, and arguably their best film.

And Dreamworks have been killing it lately. Cloudy and Dragons were so good. I also really enjoyed the first Kung Fu Panda. Megamind was great for what it was, and Despicable Me wasn't bad either. Unfortunately Dreamworks can't make a good sequel for the life of them.

EDIT: Shit, Cloudy wasn't Dreamworks?

Wall-E was incredible. It's still astounding how evocative the first portion of the movie is with zero dialogue. I love this movie so much and while it's hard to choose a Pixar favourite, if I was pressed I would have to choose this one.

I'll try not to complain in the thread anymore ><

Complain all you want, we all need an outlet for stuff and AusGAF is an awesome backstop.

Thanks man. I guess career progression isn't really as important as enjoying yourself and having good experiences anyway.

That warehouse thing is pretty lucky! There were a couple that looked pretty good from that bones collection. I'll send you a PM ^^

Sure thing. PM away whenever you're ready. I'd been out all day gaming at a mates place and only got a chance to read this now. First time I've played in ages and it was a great time.

Toy Story 2
The Incredibles
Wall E
Up
Toy Story 3
Toy Story
Monster's Inc
Bugs Life
Finding Nemo
Ratatouille
Cars
Not on the List- haven't seen.

I don't hate Cars. But it was where the formula got stuck in a rut. But I'm a long way from the target audience. Ratatouille and FInding Nemo are the ones I personally don'tt like to watch again. they are not bad, they just don't work for me as well as some of the others.

That said, I don't see any of the other competing companies movie as being all that great or compelling. Kung Fu Panda left me cold. I didn't mind Monsters Vs Aliens and Megamind was pretty good. Of course they are the only non-pixar animated films I've watched since Shrek 2.

You mean DM2 and Cloudy 2, yes?

Edit: Yeah, I loved Tangled as well. Seemed like a less-up itself version of Shrek IMO. I also enjoyed Panda, but I'm a JB fan of sorts, so maybe that makes up for some of it. Sequel sucked though.

Teenage boy questioned by police after man stabbed after Sydney A-League soccer match

A teenage boy is being questioned by police after a man was stabbed during a street brawl involving A-League soccer fans in inner Sydney last night.

The fight began as Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory fans left Sydney Football Stadium at Moore Park about 10:00pm.

The man, aged in his 20s, suffered a stab wound to the torso and was taken to St Vincent's hospital in a stable condition.

Another man was treated for a wound to his hand.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested at the scene.

So i recently installed Win8.1 on a 80GB partition as a fresh install from a system builder disc. The only programs installed are firefox and steam (and the steam library is on an external drive). Have literally nothing else installed (not even email or any media players) and I apparently have only 3GB left. In Win Explorer, when I select all of the items on my c Drive and check properties, it says 15 GB. 80-15 should not equal 3.

Any helpful ideas on what would cause this?

Maybe see if 'Don't show hidden files/folders/etc' if checked in Folder Options.

Might have a ton of porn in there you forgot about.

Treesize is good too for finding out where space is being used.

Also, it could be something like shadow copies (although I doubt they would take up that much space on such a recent install).

pagesys.fle 32GB, hyperfil.sys 25GB. this is on a machine with 32GB. I already suspect there's an issue with the 4th stick.

what's the best way to get rid of these files?

Run command prompt as administrator
type powercfg -h off

I recommend reducing the page file to 800mb ish. Getting rid of it completely, even if you have ridiculous amounts of RAM, is generally frowned upon in tech circles. Um, you can change pagefile via Advanced.... stuff in computer properties? I can't remember, on my mac atm.

but ever so delicious
As lexi said, powercfg is how you will turn off hibernation.

You can turn off the pagefile - RIght click my comp > properties > advanced settings > advanced > performance > advanced.

Could someone with a working install of GMod chuck the steamapps/common folder on a 4GB USB stick and send it to me?

Game still isn't working after all these weeks.

I took some photos on a walk to the shops and I thought I would share three videogame-related photos I took.

I saw this car. Not as good as that time I saw a SUIKDN custom plate.

"Release: Nov '13" could be easily misread as saying November 13th so I wonder about the chance that there will be disappointed people.

This was never a case of murder. “One punch manslaughters” are a common feature of the criminal justice process. It is not murder because the mental elements of murder cannot be proved – intention to kill, intention to cause grievous bodily harm or recklessness (which requires proof that the offender turned his mind to the possible consequences of his action before he acted). The Crown would rarely be able to prove (especially without any admissions), in a case of an intoxicated and volatile offender, that he had a specific state of mind when he acted.

I don't agree with two out of the three.

You punch an unsuspecting person in the back of the head, you are intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

The recklessness comes with the choice to get drunk. This is a man with a history of becoming violent when drunk. The idea that because he was drunk, he gets less of a sentence is just bizarre to me.

Have spent almost the whole weekend playing RimWorld. Not bad for a pre-alpha released right at the end of a Kickstarter campaign where the dev raised 13x the $20k he was looking for. There's gonna be big things for this game...

18 Murder and manslaughter defined

(1)

(a) Murder shall be taken to have been committed where the act of the accused, or thing by him or her omitted to be done, causing the death charged, was done or omitted with reckless indifference to human life, or with intent to kill or inflict grievous bodily harm upon some person, or done in an attempt to commit, or during or immediately after the commission, by the accused, or some accomplice with him or her, of a crime punishable by imprisonment for life or for 25 years.

(b) Every other punishable homicide shall be taken to be manslaughter.

"Grievous bodily harm" includes:

(a) the destruction (other than in the course of a medical procedure) of the foetus of a pregnant woman, whether or not the woman suffers any other harm, and

(b) any permanent or serious disfiguring of the person, and

(c) any grievous bodily disease (in which case a reference to the infliction of grievous bodily harm includes a reference to causing a person to contract a grievous bodily disease).

An act is done with reckless indifference to human life if the accused foresaw or realised that his act would probably cause the death of the deceased but he continued with that act regardless of the risk of death.

intoxication

The accused’s intoxicated state must be taken into account in determining whether the Crown has proved beyond reasonable doubt that he intended to kill the deceased or inflict grievous bodily harm upon him or acted with reckless indifference to human life. The accused’s intoxicated state must not be taken into account when considering whether the act causing death was deliberate.

This probably was the interesting part for me:

Manslaughter is, as Justice Campbell described it, a protean offence. The maximum penalty prescribed is 25 years imprisonment, but typically sentences for manslaughter are under 10 years maximum. This is because the offence can be committed in a myriad of ways with a very wide range of culpability attached. It can be a negligent error in the course of medical treatment, grossly negligent driving of a motor vehicle, the administration of a dangerous drug (even by consent) – as Justice Campbell said, from a practical joke gone wrong to an offence just short of murder. The heavy end of the available sentencing range is reserved for the most serious examples of the offence.

Reading this...I still feel the sentence seems too light. but again I don't know all the details of the case, beyond the offenders history.
