So I'm stopping for the night on page 66 of 221:

I'm amazed by some of the build techniques already used here, even though it's still mostly flat. The pieces they use to create the angled edges, for example, are ingenious:
photo-58.jpg

Those blue things are hinged lego pieces and they each bend to different angles to connect to points on the lower level without violating the traditional LEGO grid layout.

Oh, and for Random, in terms of non-Star Wars LEGO sets, I am fairly interested in this one:

But that's mostly because I like them big, and I'm also interested to see how they implemented the raising and lowering. Perhaps jambo will be in tomorrow to let you know of what he thought of the Shuttle Expedition build. There was somebody else here who bought that one recently too...

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Clipper posting reminds me I haven't updated CFG in months and months. I might do that now.

Did gears 3 not sell well here or something? There is like 200 aussies playing online. :\

I see it advertised on TV every night, which most games don't get advertised on TV at all. Hopefully it sells well.

Gears 3 will sell for sure, but with other shooters like BF3 and MW3 on the horizon, only the fans (or those who can afford only one game a year) will be playing online towards the end of the year.

It's an incredible contest to watch. I really hope collingwood lose (Essendon fan here).

I'm trying to.

God, if this was an essendon game I would have smashed something by now.

Ill admit this straight out: my wife goes for st kilda, I go for essendon, and I dont begrudge collingwood last years flag. It was an amazing drawn GF, and they backed it up well plus they werent a bunch of dickheads.

But I cannot and will not tolerate a 16th flag for The Filth.

And I tipped the hawks by 7.

Man, if you had that lego bridge, with jambos lego cargo ship, you could lift the bridge gates and let the ship go through!!!

Game was over long ago, how would you spoil it?

PS: I dislike both the teams that played today. They seem to have the most rowdy fans. Seen a lot of fights on the trains at night...

Duuuuud, thats awesome.

Can I ask a favour of everyone here with lego fascinations:

Can you please PM me with urls and advice on how to procure these exquisite lego sets that everyone is building. I dont know if lego is region locked or not, but I have never seen this kind of stuff in local shops.

So for my own records when Im not so inebriated, if people could pm me their advice it would be muchly apprecieated.

I luv youse all

edit: as an essendon fan, i hate 3 teams more than any: carton, hawthorn and collingwood. I also hate temporarily any team that threatens essendons unchallenged record in 2000 of 21-1 in the season and a flag to boot. So i went for hawks in 2008 and st kilda 09 and collingwood this year deserved to lose two games.

Who do you go for death Junior?

PS: It is hard to go for newcastle utd with their colours, but alan shearer says its all ok

Oh god, everythin is funny to me atm

from grcade forums:

http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2011/09/20/24000-of-washing-liquid-is-snatched/

Washing-up liquid and powder worth £24,000 have been stolen during two raids at a Bilston warehouse.

Bold liquid valued at £16,000 and Ariel powder worth £8,000 were taken from a unit in Millfields Road, on Saturday and Sunday.

Police spokeswoman Sarah Astbury said: “If anyone is offered any cheap detergent or sees large quantities being sold, they should think twice.”

The first raid took place on Saturday with a second burglary happening between 10am on Sunday and 8.45am the following day.

Witnesses are asked to contact Police on 0345 113 5000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Sounds like they made a CLEAN getaway.

And other assorted money laundering malarky..

collingwood = historically catholic working class

hawthorn = historically protestant mid to upper class

rivalries go back a long time

vfl used to be split along religious socioeconomic lines..... I think the jews were St Kilda

don't know who would be the muslim team..... western bulldogs? :p

Man I'm drunk. Had some drinks with a lady friend, ended up a bit odd.

Started off well with lots of taking and back n forth, then the middle was great, but she was going drink for drink with me so she ended up hammered and silent near the end haha.

Stuck at work (1:10am) waiting for the transcript guy in Sydney to post the next Lateline transcript so I can then check it and post it on the website. No rush, take your time. I've only done all my other work for the night except for that...

I'm just being mean, it IS a pretty lengthy interview to transcibe. Fingers crossed I can get out of here soon.

I'll post the info here and then PM you the link so others are able to see it too.

While you might have some luck finding some of these sets on sale at K-Mart, Target, Toys 'R Us or other stores with good toy sections, the cheapest and easiest method to get most of these is to import from LEGO's US online store.

For comparison of pricing, if I had bought the SSD from the Australian online LEGO store, I'd have paid AU$745 including shipping. RRP is AU$699, which is what most of the stores would charge too, if they are stocking it at all. Instead of that, I paid US$561 to ship it to a company in the US who then shipped it to me. This was before we went back below parity, but even now, it's still a massive saving.

Now, there are several companies that you can use for shipping these items. The two I have used are HopShopGo and Shipito. Comparisons of my experiences of sending LEGO through these two companies follows:

HopShopGo will generally be cheaper if you want it shipped via courier. They are based in Oregon, meaning you don't have to pay tax. They only allow DHL as a shipment option. You require a Paypal account to use them as your HSG account is actually tied directly to your Paypal.

Shipito has a bit faster turnaround at getting the package to you after it arrives. Unless you jump through a few hoops, they ship to California, meaning LEGO are forced to charge you an 8-9% sales tax on the purchase, unlike with HSG. This tax is what makes the price go over HSG's offering. However, they also offer standard shipping as an option that will come to about the same price as HSG's courier option or possibly cheaper. Shipito has a deposit fee of $8.50 for signing up, which goes towards your first shipping fee (they don't like people creating accounts willy nilly).

In either case, the process that you'd go through to get LEGO delivered to you via these companies is:

1: Create an account on your chosen company's site.
2: Note the US shipment address the site gices to you.
3: Use LEGO's US store to order your chosen set and ship to the address.
4: Wait for it to arrive at the company. They will e-mail when it arrives.
5: Use the company's site to arrange shipping to your Australia address.
6: Wait for them to ship to you.
7: Enjoy the awesome LEGO build

If anybody has any further questions, feel free to ask :D.

I wasn't drinking... unless you count being drunk on LEGO :p

The tail section is beginning to take shape, making this behemoth even longer:

And Stage 2 of 7 is now complete at page 93 of 221. I'm going to take a gaming break for a few hours now, though.

Does anyone know why my PS3 Media Server would just decide to stop steaming things correctly? It takes forever to start a video, then stops after about 5 seconds. It's like what happened when I try to stream HD content over WIFI. Except it's SD content over a Cat 6 cable.

Maybe because it says this in the log:

[main] INFO 08:53:39.391 Executable of transcoder profile VLC Audio Streaming not found
[main] INFO 08:53:39.391 Executable of transcoder profile VLC Video Streaming not found

Hmmmmmm... seems like a transcoder profile may be missing. Maybe the VLC one. Possibly for both Audio and Video. :)

1. Have you tried disconecting and then re-searching for the Media Server on your PS3. This sometimes helps.
2. The old reinstall of Media Server trick?. The good thing is that it remembers all your previous settings. Sometimes, the bad thing is that it remembers all your previous setting.
3. Uhhhh....
