Oh, the party you're a member of supports the NT intervention? Tell me more about how you feel about the use of the Australian Aboriginal Flag.

The Greens, the only party in Parliament without an indigenous representative, claiming the indigenous flag as their own.

Klassy with a K.
I'm a bit slow this morning. How/where are they "claiming it as their own"? Or was this just sarcasm. Again, with the slow this morning.

I guess some people interpret it as putting the greens logo on the aboriginal flag itself rather than on an image that also has the aboriginal flag.

Why does the aboriginal flag need the symbol of any political party on it? Its pretty poor form by the Greens to claim the flying of the indigenous flag as their issue.

Totally, and on that note, why do black people even need pornography?

The funny thing is the only Greens that have been in the Victorian parliament for more than a year are Upper House members, they don't represent electorates

Haha, more evidence that politics and social media always backfires in spectacular ways.

Must have been intern week for Greens/Labor social media profiles. All we now is Libs to do something by 5pm.

National unemployment now highest since 1994. Good times ahead, folks!
On the back of rising participation; employment actually went up, but there's still too much underemployment and not enough jobs. That said it's worth noting that the ABS scaled using a 1.8% population growth rate that is probably too optimistic.

Also, the "recovery" from the GFC lows has reversed, or at best stalled.

I think underemployment is going to be the scourge of this generation.

I might be bias in thinking that, because I can see that it's going to be my fate, but I don't think there's anything anyone can do about the issue. Except maybe a 500% growth in the economy overnight.

Dozens of port workers formed a picket line at the wharf at Port Botany in Sydney after 97 workers from Sydney and Brisbane were sent text messages last night telling them not to turn up for their shifts, and to check their emails.

The emails, sent by Hutchison Ports said their positions had been made redundant, there were no re-deployment opportunities and their personal belongings would be couriered to them.

Workers still rostered to work on Friday joined their sacked colleagues on a picket line outside the terminal in Port Botany.

The Hutchison gates are being blocked by hired security guards and trucks are having to turn away instead of delivering their containers.

An altercation flared after a security guard apparently told a sacked worker he could not enter and that his gear would be cleared from his locker and sent to him.

Extra police intervened to keep the security guards and picketers away from each other while border security officers kept a watchful eye.

Well thats fucking awful treatment.

It was of the last too. Large amounts of underemployment disguising real unemployment figures.

Abbot is whinging about the Carmichael coalmine being delayed by the federal court. Hilarious. Someone should remind him that the mine still has to get past another court case that might not conclude for a year, and that the mine itself is becoming increasingly unlikely to be viable financially, especially now that the Commonwealth Bank has walked away from it.

I'm technically employed......as a casual at EB games working 6-12 hours a week, I suppose I can say I'm back at Uni right now studying French and Chinese but that's because my brain is literally rotting due to complete under-stimulation. Either way 200 or so a week is hardly a livable wage....but they can count me as employed for their bullshit stats.

Casual employed Gaf check-in!
Just got to work, not only am I now an hour early due a last minute change but my new roster is only 8.5 hours. Wouldn't mind too much if not for uni, but if I had to survive off this, yeah.

I'm currently working 12-16 hours a week + uni. I do both in the Melbourne CBD while living 30 minutes from Geelong.

I no longer have a work/life balance.

EDIT: Okay that's not entirely true but I am bitter about going to uni this Saturday.

What're your qualifications? Try getting a job at the uni. Government jobs give mad super rates.

I assume Labor supports this too.

Iranian asylum seekers say the Federal Government is putting them back into detention because it cannot force them to leave the country.

Over recent months an undisclosed number of Iranians on bridging visas have been taken from their communities and put in detention.

Australia is still negotiating with Iran to accept the return of its citizens who have not been found to be refugees.

Brisbane high school student Mojgan Shamsalipoor was put back in detention for eight months, after spending more than two years in the community and marrying an Australian resident.

"It's very upsetting and hurtful because we're just young and love each other and all our dream was to live together and make our life and be happy," she said.

Ms Shamsalipoor was moved from the Brisbane Immigration Transit Accommodation centre to detention in Darwin on Friday after speaking to the ABC.

He can't write that with a straight face, surely?

He's one of the regular smug types on appearances on Insiders yeah? Mark him down as another Piers Akerman numpty.

Poor Old Sheriden, he's spent the last, god knows how long, unsuccessfully trying to persuade everyone that Abbott is not a complete bastard. It must be hard work, not too many true believers left. Maybe he should have taken the ambassadorship to Singapore when Abbott offered it before the 2013 election. I suspect Abbott won't be around much longer to offer him another.

Hard to say, Tony Smith has signalled his intent to skip party room meetings in an attempt to be a bit more independent, so if he follows through with that promise we can probably expect a bit more balance.

Don't expect Lib MPs to get thrown out nearly as often as Labor MPs though, that's just the name of the game...but hopefully it'll be better.

I'm pretty glad to hear that Carl Katter will be the ALP candidate for Higgins.

That seat is solid blue but I hope he can make a go of it anyway.

When I saw that surname I was about to call for you to be banned, but did a quick search on him before otherwise posting. Glad I did! For some reason I thought Katter Jr. must've been a half-brother I couldn't quite picture, given their ages must be kinda close. Nope. Katter Jr. is 70 and his half-brother Carl is 37. How the fuck does that work?!?

AND he's younger than his nephew.

Yeah he made a name for himself a few years back calling out Bob's homophobia.

But I hope his family name doesn't become an election issue because he is a great and passionate bloke committed to a range of issues.

If he is unsuccessful (which he likely will be) I hope he gets the opportunity to contest a more winnable seat.

He was set to be preselected for the seat of Prahran in Victoria until he dropped this nugget of wisdom on Twitter:

Shit. I heard about that fight but I didn't realise that the used that much vitriol.

A shame really because I think he would have won that seat if not for his momentary lapse of reason.

I can't help but feel sorry for Lambie. What she must be going through is pretty tragic.

Absolutely. And She needs to be commended for speaking out on such a personal matter.

I only just found out on the weekend that a member of my extended family is using ice. She is 30 years old - her mum says that it's as though she's turned into a completely different person. She's refusing to get help or go into rehab. It's so god damned sad.
