I think MAL accounts are a bit silly to be honest. Putting a score on something is just an easy way of categorizing why something as good or bad without having to put in any hard thought into why you feel a certain way towards something. People focus more on the score, and the score in relation to other scores, than the actual thought/reasoning of the show itself.
Also, I'm freaking out gaf. Got a midterm on Wednesday that might send my entire being into a nervous breakdown.

I mean, it's legit good and awesome but it's got this cheesiness and silliness in it that I think you'd love. If you really want some enjoyable cringe, watch the english dub.
The worst thing is that you'll just change the scores a ton of times. There are shows that got me really hyped and I gave them a 8+, but after some weeks they're not even a 7. Also, I find it weird to give scores to something like Gintama that has so many episodes. The best and maybe only use of the MAL list are to post it when you ask for recommendations. People can see what you have already watched and get an idea for what you like.

Yeah id agree to an extent. Im addicted to scoring things cause of IMDb and stuff so I cant really help it.
I mean its hard to compare a score for berserk to something like clannad.

I did too. I only really use it to catalog what I have watched. All my ratings are weird too. If you look inside all you'll see is 7+ on everything pretty much. The score is more for myself to know whether I liked something a lot or not at the time it was airing.
And I understand the feeling. I had to drop out of a class that was making me feel miserable. I feel 1000 pounds lighter now. School believe it or not can fuck you up bad. Take things at your own pace. Do your best!

I noticed the op has a DreAca World Tour poster. Interesting. Risa cannot catch a break. Nono continues to be the superior of the two. Of course companies want Luminas. They went toe to toe with established heavyweights like Powa Puri and Soleil. Still not doing much with the whole traveling thing, but now that Nono and Risa are fully introduced maybe they'll get back to that. Holy shit Yuu is still alive. I thought she'd gone the way of Splash. She never even got half the attention Shion did. If Yuu is the next Shion then she can expect to get a concert around the 190s. Sumire knows how to rock a ring. Sucks to be a dad.

I'll pretty much only use MAL to keep track of what I'm watching and what I've already watched. My scores are probably a mess for the most part and I'm changing them when I feel like it, too, so they are mostly useless as far as I'm concerned.
Thinking about it, it's been a long time since I've actually looked at MAL scores of shows...

There's so much darn controversy surrounding Diebuster that it kinda makes me scared to go near it, lol.
Gurren Lagann is a 10 because Gurren Lagann is my favourite anime of all time. Sure, you can argue that Gunbuster is technically better, but Gurren Lagann is just that one show that I value over all other shows.
If I could rank Gurren Lagann an 11 on that site, I would.

I actually have the opposite of the general consensus when it comes to this series.
I thought the first season was horribly painful to watch with only a few good moments.
Everything felt off to me and I couldn't explain why. I always assumed it was the art or the scenarios boring me or something. Anime like this don't tend to bore me or become a pain to watch, but still the first season did that. About equal to the pain of watching Mayo Chiki.
That said, this season was a huge step up. The art is so much better and way less boring. Animation is way better too. The arcs feel better as well and have a sort of consistency to them that the first season sorely lacked. But this season still frustrated me from time to time.
This season also made me realize why i hated the first season and why I found parts of this season painful to watch.
I would like to say that I found the stuff relating to the student council, Hachiman's sister, the teacher, and Iroha to be quite enjoyable. But I hated 1 very important thing:
The main group drama.
With the exception of the very end of the last episode, none of the drama between the club members felt warranted. (lil fyi, that last episode did not feel like a last episode, it was a second to last episode at best.)
This show often tries to bring up the idea of keeping the status quo, which can be a very interesting subject if you show why it can be good or bad, but this show handles it horribly.
You hear a bunch of "i don't want things to change", but we never see the repercussions of that. Everyone seems to hate how Hachiman always sacrifices himself in the beginning, but we never see why they hate it. They just do. And that hate, not Hachiman's actions, are what cause the group to drift. He keeps the status quo in the first arc so that no one ends up hurt, and people don't give up hope, and we are supposed to hate him for that.
Hell, anytime Yukino's sister makes a peep to Yukino, BLAM instantly everyone is depressed and every starts to drift. She serves as nothing more than a tool for drama.
The group drama just feels lazy to me. Unwarranted for the most part, random at times, and just not smartly written as a scenario.
I liked this season for everything other than the group drama stuff (with the exception of Hachiman's "i want something real" thing. That was great).
I still don't like the first season though.

Diebuster is kinda like Gurren Lagann mixed with Gunbuster, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. At the very least it's only 6 episodes so you won't really waste your time.
The main characters of Diebuster even made a cameo in Gurren Lagann, it was kinda cool.

Anyway, I find MAL scores useful as an ordering system, especially when someone is asking for recommendations and I can order my list by rating and go down from the top. 10 notches is a bit of an overkill, but I do use them all. My scale uses 5 for indifference, 6-10 for steadily increasing levels of enjoyment, and 4-1 for steadily increasing levels of dislike.

Also as far as score goes, generally 10 is masterpieces or stuff I really, really like. 9 is for amazing shows that is not on masterpiece level, 8 is for really good shows, 7 is enjoyable, 6 is just ok, 5 is average, 4 is mediocre, 3 is bad, 2 is really bad, 1 is awful.
I find them useful for recommendations. I can just say that 10-8 is must watch, 7-6 is you can watch if you like the particular type of anime, or YMMV, 5-4 is don't even bother and 3-1 is avoid at all costs.
