I havent been in the anime scene in years and for the past 2 weeks I have watched a disgusting amount. Its been largely a ton of fun though.

In my binge I was lucky enough to discover some gems that I would have ordinary never found, like Usagi Drop which I adored (and subsequently tainted when I read what happens in part 2 of the manga, UGH)

I even discovered I can totally get into sports, through the fantastic Haikyu followed by the less spectacular but consumable Korukos basketball.

I just know I'm missing out on some gems because I haven't branched out of my slect few streaming options, but I am totally happy to with a good recommendation.

Anyway, sorry for the long post.

I've also been binge watching a lot. It's really enjoyable. Here's what I'd recommend:
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (one of my favorites, it's a lot of fun and over-the-top)
Monster (another one of my favorites, it's pretty long at 74 episodes, but very worth it)
Ping Pong (I still gotta finish it but trust me when I say this is an amazing sports anime)
Nichijou (can be hit-or-miss for some but it's a show that just made me feel happy)

BEHOLD! The number of Trump Cards for you plebians to fear! Even some Imperial Arms have MULTIPLE Trump Cards!

Living with Esdeath would be very rewarding after a day's worth of fighting.

This dub is so hilariously bad, yet I can't... stop... watching!

Now back to normal regular Toonami schedule next Saturday.

My curiosity got the best of me and I hate myself for it. I cant believe I sat through this garbage.

I heard so much about how Asterisk and this are basically the same show so I went and started watching Asterisk after this was done. I cant believe the MC of this show also walked in on the pink haired female lead within the first 2 minutes of the episode. Fucking lol. Immediately stopped watching there.

They go surprisingly different paths even though the general setting and first episode is largely the same, lol.

That all said, I am sick and fucking tired of high school shit and 15 year olds. A few nights ago, I tired to start 2 animes I saw mentioned in here. I couldn't believe it when they literally both had the same scene within the first 5 minutes: A awesome new transfer student at a magical academy walks into the super talented girls room and catches her changing and they fight. Both girls are obviously princeses because of fucking course they are. When it happened the second time, I didn't even finish the episode.

That sent me to a dark place where i was way more cautuous trying new things, questioning it all. Its not like high school was the issue, as i loved Food Wars and remember liking stuff like blue exorsit back in the day, but man oh man, tropes are so fucking hard to swallow after consuming so much good stuff back to back to back.

Its largely why i found GATE so refreshing as having a show with (primarily) actual adults as protagonists seemed to fill a huge void. Are there any other shows like it that I'm missing? Currently, I am head over heels with noragami to give you an idea of what really works for me.

It doesnt have to be an adult MC, but just something that doesn't deal with teenage bushit or does so incredibly honestly.

On the top of my head:
Death Parade and its predecessor OVA Death Billiards
JoJos Bizarre Adventure
Rokka no Yuusha (Braves of the Six Flowers)
Gintama
Mushishi
One Punch Man (it's airing right now)
Fate / Zero
Hunter x Hunter 2011
Silver Spoon

Space Dandy. Dandy is a grownup adult with a huge ego, but a lot of episodes, especially the 2nd season, are just the most spectacular things you'll witness.

For sports, I'd recommend Kuroko's Basketball or Eyeshield 21. They're both wacky in a good way and the action is pretty solid.

I'm glad you like GATE. And I'm with you, sometimes there's too much of the whole high school setting with the same tropes and the same sequences just because it's a Light Novel adaptation.

ive got some great ideas for the 2016 anime threads

You better have the actual euphonium instrument ready to go, and by that I mean the seasonal thread go up exactly at midnight with everything prepared.

Watching the first episode of this ToLoveRu Darkness show. Didn't realise it was so damn lewd.

Wait... you're watching darkness w/o watching the first 2 seasons first?

okay.

The Testament of Sister New Devil season 1 1-12 [end]

This pic exemplifies my feelings with this series.
Its just so weirdly made. And it turns out so blasé. Its nothing special, and has some decent ideas involved, but in the end it really just feels like a "Oh highschool dxd did this, so we will do the opposite" sort of deal.

Actually, no. Thats exact what this show is. An opposite DxD, just with a poorer execution.

:/

In all honesty, Cat Planet Cuties was better than this. Watch that instead if you are looking for anime in the same sub-genre as DxD (that or "So I can't play H?". That one is pretty good too)

Maturity, bitches.
When I was at the showing of Gundam Origins Parts I and II, the host literally got on his knees to grovel. "Gomenasai" he said "we only have the English version to show". 20% of the audience committed sudoku on the spot. Another 50% walked out, with a few of them actually spitting at the poor host in disgust. The poor lady from Sunrise had to be escorted from the building for her own safety.

The sad thing is, the English dub wasn't that bad. Though every so often, during the quiet parts you could hear a few audience members weeping. "it's just not the same in this inferior non Japanese language..."

That day I learnt what a serious issue the sub vs dub debate really is.

I know people are gonna hate you for this post, but 2016 doesn't look half bad from what's announced so far.

New season of Magi (technically)
New season of 7 Deadly sins
Dimension W's PV looked really good
Boku dake ga Inai Machi sounds super cool
Gate's second season

Idk, i have high hopes for 2016
I will be disappointed. Oh well, more pain for me i guess :3

Okada Gundam - 05

Man do I love the soundtrack in this show.
Another great episode with lots of cool space fighting. Of course the only adult sold them out to Gjallarhorn, but naturally Orga had already prepared for that in advance. I still like how efficient Tekkadan is. There is no long drawn out betrayal drama or something. They don't keep him around and give him more chances to fuck up. No, they just beat him up, lock him in a closet and throw him out into space. I laughed when the enemies picked him up xD.

Asterisk x Cavalry 05

Asterisk comes out on top here because of the more extensive worldbuilding going on with the introduction of the school reps, their powers and the building conflicts between different characters. I'll give Cavalry brownie points for actually moving along the main pair's relationship which is extremely uncommon in anime.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Episode 5:

This is still a damn good show and I am unsure how to deal with this, I keep waiting for the shithammer to show up in earnest.

Iron-Blooded Orphans 05

Technically smart battles > shit blows up battles. Space battle was fucking awesome this episode. Fareed is quickly becoming my favorite character even though he's on the 'evil' side. I expect he'll have a long life in this series.

Which is all rather silly, in my opinion, given that English dubs have improved a lot since the early days of the industry. I think people need to acknowledge that contemporary dubs generally tend to have a mostly watchable range of performances. There's usually a couple of individuals or so who really get into their roles and make the best possible attempt at playing them, then several who do a decent job getting the parts across, and finally another couple who really stick out as the weakest links. Give or take a few degrees, the net balance is more positive than negative.

I'd imagine this classification is also applicable to a lot of the original Japanese voice acting, to a greater or lesser extent, but obviously most of us can't really tell unless we're already familiar enough with the language. Rather than just trying to instinctively feel when something sounds right or not to our foreign ears, which probably doesn't mean much to native speakers.

Black Lagoon, Ouran Highschool Host Club, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Alchemist. These are some of the shows that I watched dubbed and they were fucking excellent. Subs vs Dubs argument in both anime and gaming is just silly.

English dubs are great in my book if they have Liam o brien. That man is my husbando.

He's really quite good at this. I've appreciated his work as Lloyd from Code Geass, Kariya in Fate/Zero and Lunatic from Tiger & Bunny, among others. Those three characters were varying types of insane and yet he doesn't just give the same exact performance.

What are the Netflix exclusive series with English?
I know Seven Deadly Sins, Knights of Sidonia, and Fate.
Is there anything else?

Yep. He's also in video games (probably more often) and has given plenty of great performances. One being the grimoire in Nier. And Gollum in shadows of Mordor.

Man needs more recognition and work.

It's not about romance. This isn't Nisekoi.
If anything I can only see the derpy dude ending up with the lead girl. That's about it. The guy and girl in glasses are in a relationship already and there's like 0 focus on it too. I'm all for romance in anime, but Euphonium is interesting enough without too much of it.

Gumdam Iron Blooded Orphans 4

Dude, you're nowhere near as cunning as you think you are to manipulate Orga without getting yourself killed.

Anyway, our Char clone is shaping up to be the rival for Mikazuki and a very competent one at that. He also has a bag of candy on him to give to kids after he almost runs them over.
To early to say he's also like Char in 'that' regard?

Also Canada is allied with what is suppose to be Russia. Where did we go wrong?

There's handholding and hug happening. That's enough for me!

Owarimonogatari 5

Ah, so the title owarimonogatari refer to the fact that Arara-G chasing a finished story. Holy shit, miss How Much is a lost cause. Her reasoning is something that i can relate a bit. Marina Inoue did one hell of a job voicing her desperation. So yeah, the whole missing mother... there's something fishy about her story. Is her mother really gone, or did she just refuse to acknowledge her existence? Either way, this episode is intense. Can't say much about today episode visual though. Weird camera angle is there, but it wasn't memorable or anything. It's just there....

Comet Lucifer - 5

Whoa, five episodes in and the main mecha's already got an upgrade!

I'm still dumbfounded by how decent the CG mechs are in this. Like, they really don't look all that terrible to me.

But in any case, after the events of this episode, NOW the actual adventure part of this show should be starting come the next episode.

I've still got a really good feeling that this is gonna end up being 2-cour.

Honestly can't believe that a Gundam show in this age has still managed to be good this far in. The space battle mixed in with a great ost makes it stand out. The obvious betrayal happened but Ogra saw it coming with a smart plan. Tekkadan are surprisingly adept for any situation especially with that crazy asteroid trick. Also loved that Mika kept calling that guy chocolate man during a dramatic fight. The end scene was pretty hilarious as well. Great stuff and I hope it continues to be great. My flag has been raised this week!
BTW here's my crazy theory. With the amount of times Ogra has smirked plus how similar they look I'm thinking that Ogra is Archer in disguise. Someone better be keeping track of the amount of times Ogra-Archer has smirked during the series!

Owarimonogatari ep.5
Oh wow, that was a pretty emotional episode about Sodachi's past. Araragi truly is an idiot to forget about his past like that. I wonder if they will be able to find
her mother
after that whole conversation.

Maybe we will get an all out yuri attack in season 2 to help calm the storm.

I actually laughed at this, I know they are going to push the shitty alternate romance lines because that is "normal" and "proper" in spite of the other connotations there andf I look forward to flaying this series alive over it again.

Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans 5

Strong blend of action + tactics in that space fight. The betrayal was obvious after all. Nice way of dealing with him. Ein is going to be the butt monkey of the villains. Coral didn't strike me as the type to go into battle himself. Should've stayed that way. Orga is good at thinking on the fly. Looks like I chose a good one for my first Gundam.

Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans 5

Yeah that didn't work out for our obvious traitor. Orga even had time to plan out how to get out of it because it was so painfully obvious. The way they dealt with him was hilarious. Really good episode with a great space battle.

I have to admit I'm genuinely impressed with IBO 5 episodes in. I came into this with few (IE: Don't be Gundam Age bad) expectations and so far it's exceeding them greatly.

Sakurako san 3
Okay episode. I still think that Sakurako "unlimited bone works" is too distracting, not to mention they didn't even bother changing her clothing during that sequence.

Sakurako san 4

No UBW scene, so that's a plus. I guess the husband suffer from the painting, based on his nail/skin and constant coughing. Dude recover from asthma but keep smoking, what the hell husband.

Mobile Suit Gundam:Iron Blood ORPHANS NAMIDA 5
Todo getting outsmarted, that Gundam speech, and chocolate man.

Valkyrie Drive 4
Hahaha yep.
Same old same old, nothing changed except for Tokonome plastering posters all over the bedroom.(and slightly sinking the yuri ship)

Comet Lucifer - 05

Liked the action parts, as well as the soundtrack that played during. Nice to see the CGI still holds up.

Thankfully
she evolved and can actually speak now
! I was a bit fed up with the earlier version.
