Shingeki Chuugakkou Episode 10

High school is always best setting we need more high school spinoffs for everything. The funniest episode yet due to the music, the visuals, and the speeches. Eren's titan obsession is so hilarious here, and then Jean, and Armin.

Will buy this as soon as on BD funi!

That's some fantastic boxart!
It sure is, probably my favorite out of everything I own. Dat Mikimoto artwork. A great segue as any, the upcoming Macross reprints have some awesome artwork!

I'm dying for a release of DYRL on Blu-Ray over here. Too bad that won't happen. I'm just going to have to sit here hoping that some future Japanese release will have subtitles.

Yeah I'd be all over the DYRL release if it had subs.

Gundam the Origin II

That was pretty good! Liked it more than the first one. Some of the cameos and foreshadowing is still a bit too on the nose, but it's forgivable given how the direction of Origin melodramatic and theatrical to begin with. The art direction was really great too. I loved seeing the different settings and there was a lot of nice character animation and fist fights. The CG work continues to be top notch too, although sometimes the CG elements of the backgrounds stand out just a bit too much even though they're well made. While the production might not be as polished as some of the crazy high quality 2D mecha animation in Unicorn, the overall flow and the narrative work here feels much better.

The only odd thing I noticed is that the Char voice here really doesn't fit how the younger Casval looks. There's this weird disconnect. The voice direction could have been done better I think. Or maybe that disconnect was what they were going for, to make him seem older than he looks. Still weird though.

I can't blame you, it looks like a nice release! Japanese releases in general tend to be pretty top notch.

Maybe its a bit weird but I tend to stick to a few series/franchises when buying a majority of my stuff which explains why I own many of my favorites multiple times, Macross, Patlabor, Gunbuster and Evangelion in particular. Laser Discs, DVD's, Blu-ray's, Art-books, Cel's, I'm up for anything but VHS really!

Off topic but I'm glad that you enjoyed Porco and commented on its grown up nature, it makes me really happy to see more enjoy it :)

It makes me glad Amazon accidentally shipped me two last year and I blindly sent one to a friend. :lol

Gonna have to watch Porco Rosso, too. Was always slightly put off because some pilot pig seems to be one of the main characters and...fuck if I know why that should be such a struggle :<

So, since I'm slowly catching up with some classics like the Kon movies, I should just do that one next.

You did a good thing. I (still) haven't seen The Wind Rises but Porco is my favorite Miyazaki film for sure. It's in my top three and only bested by Whisper of the Heart and Only Yesterday. Like you touched up upon, the soundtrack for Porco is sublime, I totally fell in love with Tokiko Kato's voice and as I mentioned previously, I felt the same feelings after watching that movie as you'd feel when falling in love. The setting, the art, the story, the music. I always say this and it's a bit cliched but regardless I'll say it again, for a movie that stars a pig it's as human as they get.

I really need to pick up the Innocence: Absolute Edition BD from Japan. It's way cheaper than getting the OOP Bandai release off the second hand market, and thanks to some weird legal situations it's not likely to be picked up again here. Though I could see Funimation being willing to deal with Paramount, since they've dealt with bigger movie companies in the past (they've had some dealings with 20th Century Fox for the newer DBZ films). Still, not very likely to happen soon.

Is that... Kaiki and Episode...? And it that Izuko Oshino in the left mature ladies book...?

This episode was pretty slow, at first, and honestly, I'm more confused than even Arararagi. So, did the samurai's ashes gathered in the shrine by chance, because was his homeland? And are the apparitions that have appeared in the series the cause or the result of his resurrection?
His appearance at the end really was unexpected. Next episode should be reaaally good.

The last few minutes were so amazing. lol

"The suspicion"...

I can't wait. :D

Yea I complained about that too. I guess that's just one of those limitations of being old, you can't sound like a 15 year old again.

I need some recommendation for a series watch while I work out

How about Shingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou, is that any good?

Any other recommendations?

Kaiki/Episode BL is canon now, ok

Enjoyable episode. I loved the last few minutes of Araragi by himself and the conversation with Kanbaru about light novels.

Haikyu s2 10

That new quick was awesome. Not much to comment on otherwise.

I am so excited for this. Mostly the same footage as the first trailer.

Some stuff in Shinobu Mail even links back to this, the time when Araragi first became a vampire and exploded into flames because of sunlight and "Iron blooded, hot blooded, cold blooded vampire" that Gaen mentioned Kiss-shot says at the end of the trailer and those are the names of the three movies. Also I'm curious to know when the master-servant dynamic between the two switched.

It's alright. Even as someone who generally likes AoT I ended up dropping it. You don't have to pay a whole lot of attention though.

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry - 10

Cool fight, but at one point it had so much going on that I had some trouble following and it felt cluttered.
While I'm not a big fan of the overuse of katanas, I did like how they 'elegantly' summoned them. I also like how they keep having the president destroy the cinematic bars.

Asterisk 10

An okay episode. Though I felt it was just a fodder fest. I know these people are strong, it's been stated and I don't really need to see them stomp fodder characters to prove it.

Rakudai 10

I liked that the battle lasted the entire episode and that for the most part it was pretty good. Too much effects vs effects for me, but other than that it's good. The president is a monster and unlike Asterisk, the battles for the most part aren't just against fodder. I like how with Rakudai at least the opponents get some focus before the battle.

Rakudai easily wins this week.

Owarimonogatari 10

Nah, I'm pretty sure you got a thing for lolis Arararagi. Nothing you can do know will make me believe otherwise. I lol'd at that cover with Kaiki and Episode. Okay episode overall and things look to get more serious next time. Also, is it weird that I'm strangely attracted to Gaen?

Haikyuu!! Season 2 Episode 10

That feeling when your boys are able to pull off those new moves. Another strong episode and with this Haikyuu is still looking like the best anime of the autumn season. Kageyama and Hinata's excitement after they pulled of that move was a joy to watch. Them cogs!

Utawarerumono 10

Another chill episode. I'm guessing this series is taking its time with the slice of life to world build and introduce the characters and show their interactions before shit gets serious. I'm okay with this because these are some adorable looking girls. Poor Haku can never catch a break.

Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade

So this was an awesome movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I had chills throughout. I wasn't expecting so much blood, but I'm not complaining. Loved the animation and characters. My boy straight up massacring people out here. Sweet Jesus that ending! Definitely one of the best anime films I've ever seen.

Valkryie Drive episode 9

Less talking, more fucking! The scene was annoying as hell. "Instead of 69ing each other, let's talk. That's more fun!"

Barely anyone watches it here I think.

Jojo maybe ? Skeleton plot you don't have too pay a lot of attention to, plenty of overtop cheese and fights and some muscular men posing as an additional inspiration.

Valkyrie Drive 9

Yep still watchin' this. This new girl sucks.

Ah yes, the dramatic hardening of the nipple. A classic technique. Still not enough dumb shit per second.

One Punch Man: Road to Hero OVA

All new content? Cool.

Story about how Saitama got his hero uniform. Pretty typical OVA quality, so completely passable but you won't miss much by skipping it.

Asterisk 10

Lots of short fights but all were pretty solid even if it was just mostly fodder. I really liked the in-close action being animated so well particularly Saya and Kirin vs the chinese themed guys. The first time in the show that Asterisk had more fan service than Rakudai. I had to laugh at that scene with Kirin and Saya because they put so much effort into it. Saya is definitely the most enjoyable character in the bunch.

I really hope the last 3 episodes have a really solid fight. That's the only thing I want out of Asterisk right now.

Rakudai 10

Good fight though I could have used a bit less jumping around shooting projectiles and making that look stylish. The best parts were when Toka and Shizuku were grounded lol. I did like all of the techniques Shizuku used and the planning she did for the fight.

Seraph S2 9

Finally Yu and Mika together but it had to take that much for it to happen. I'm curious how this is gonna wrap up overall and I want to know what happened to the brigade at the end of the episode.

How can one show be so absurdly based

New quick was cool as shit, and it was great seeing everything they kept fucking up at finally work.

Scythes are the best weapons

A few fights happening this week. They were mostly against fodder, though, but still pretty cool. Agree with Shouta, the in-fighting is done really well.
Saya is fun, using a huge-ass gun in CQC while it's charging, haha.
Also, Ardi and Rimsi, the two robotish thingies, continue to be highly entertaining.
But yeah, it's high time for a good long battle that's not against fodder, like Cavalry had today.

Which already brings me too:

Cavalry - 10

That was a great, long and flashy fight. Sometimes even a bit too flashy.
Just when I was getting a bit tired that fights where mostly always Ikki blocking things or swords clashing against each other and then a finisher at the end, we get this.
Really liked all of Shizukus techniqus and planning, as well as Tokas.
I found it hilarious when Ikki started explaining what was going on and all the random scrubs had their eyes glued to him, while there were sword-clashing background noises.

So I've been rewatching some bits of GaoGaiGar lately, and man, I think the Final Fusion might be my favourite gattai sequence in any mecha anime ever.

The way a stealth bomber, a train, and that drill machine thing all split apart and attach itself to the robot are just so cool to look at.

That and the music is fantastic.

What are some other really good and memorable mecha gattai sequences are out there that I may not have heard of? Or even awesome transformation sequences outside of mecha?

Failed Knight 10 - an all episode (well almost) fight. Not used to that. And kind of an odd one where the president showed basically no personality. Hell she hardly had a line. Certainly a interesting show of powers on both sides though.

Asterisk 10 - Vampirism huh. Curious to see if the sister acts purely as a blood bank as fights get harder.

Owarimongatari 10 - The infodump continues. Though its interesting to see how its all connected. Going to admit I never really thought about all the connections that much. And the end..interesting. So somewhat unexpected.

So checking JoJo, where do I start?

The current show is not the first season, right?

What is the first season called?

The first season is just JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

The second season is Stardust Crusaders. Stardust Crusaders is Part 3, the first season covers both Parts 1 and 2. Stardust Crusaders was split into two sets of 24 episodes, its the same series still.

watching the Wind Rises... Adult Jiro's voice is jarring asf. And why the F is this only in Mono audio?!?

Miyazaki strikes again.

The anime in order are:

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure TV (2012, contains Part 1: Phantom Blood and Part 2: Battle Tendency)
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders (2014)
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders: Egypt Arc (2015)
(These two seasons adapt Part 3.)
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable (coming spring 2016, adapting Part 4)

I would also suggest not taking everything in the show too seriously. It's over the top and a fun ride with cool fights.

Edit: Also if part 1 (episodes 1-9 aren't to your liking try to at least stick thorough to part 2. People that didn't fancy part 1 almost all enjoyed part 2)
